Having never read the original French novel, D'Entre les Morts, on which "Vertigo" is based, I have no idea if the character of the detective in the movie, portrayed by Stewart, was supposed to be an older man or not. Oliver in Aciman's novel is 7 years older than Elio in the book. I was not trying to say Oliver is older and wiser in CMBYN, only that Oliver covers his insecurities with a bravado which is perceived as a high level of confidence and wisdom, trying to convey that Armie Hammer did that perfectly, contrary to all the brickbats thrown at Mr. Hammer as being "uninvolved, too old, etc., etc." in his role interpretation.

Alfred Hitchcock cast depending on who was available, not age or the original story. He cast both Cary Grant, Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart (not together) several times.

To me, the success of the film was casting Elio with a very good actor. So I cared less about Oliver and the actor who played the older character.

But after way over 400 posts, I was surprised to read your new post.

The Bracing Sorrow of Sufjan Stevens’s Oscars Performance

https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/the-bracing-sorrow-of-sufjan-stevenss-oscar-performance

The New Yorker

Still disappointed by this loss, but the couple from Frozen seem like terribly nice folks (although, they already have an EGOT, so...)

Oh, to see without my eyes

The first time that you kissed me

Boundless by the time I cried

I built your walls around me

White noise, what an awful sound

Fumbling by Rogue River

Feel my feet above the ground

Hand of God, deliver me

Oh, oh woe, woe is me

The first time that you touched me

Oh, will wonders ever cease?

Blessed be the mystery of love

Lord, I no longer believe

Drowned in living waters

Cursed by the love that I received

From my brother's daughter

Like Hephaestion, who died

Alexander's lover

Now my riverbed has dried

Shall I find no other?

Oh, oh woe, woe is me

I'm running like a plover

Now I'm prone to misery

The birthmark on your shoulder reminds me

How much sorrow can I take?

Blackbird on my shoulder

And what difference does it make

When this love is over?

Shall I sleep within your bed

River of unhappiness

Hold your hands upon my head

Till I breathe my last breath

Oh, oh woe woe is me

The last time that you touched me

Oh, will wonders ever cease?

Blessed be the mystery of love

The closest theater to me playing CMBYN is in Austin TX, over 200 miles away. It’s not even playin in San Antonio, Texas’ third largest city. “I wonder when it will hit Netflix?” He pondered ruefully.

Netflix next week ... 3/13 I think.

Too late. Purchased it on iTunes cuz it wasn’t going to play anytime soon in Malaysia. And the iTunes version provides access to commentary channel audio. BTW returned from Malaysia over the weekend and CMBYN was available on both the DragonPacific and American Airlines entertainment units.
