for those, like me, interested in geography and history, here are some details on this.....it is apparently the Byker neighborhood in Newcastle, England, not London.....the picture was taken by a Finnish photographer, Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, who was living and working in the area......she also documented the interiors of the homes of many willing residents.....deemed unfit for human habitation, the entire neighborhood was demolished by the early 1970s, and replaced by the 200-acre/80 hectare Byker Estate (I believe "estate" is a British term for what US residents might call a development or a subdivision) as new housing.....

if the historic picture is indeed Kendal St pre-demolition, the current look of Kendal St after 1970s-era redevelopment is unrecognizable....(safe google street view link)
