Better experience when closer in age?

I've had four massages over the course of two years, and three were great. The one bad apple was over 20 years younger than myself, only massaged one half of me, and wouldn't give a reason but simply said to not contact them again. Are 20-somethings generally only interested in massaging those closer in body type to them?

When I was in my 20s, I often had massages from guys older than I; when I could save up enough money. ($60-$100)

All through my 30s and early 40s, I had regulars, with whom I developed wonderful bonds.

Now that I'm pushing 50, I have rarely found a 20-something masseur that I would repeat. The prices are very high, skills minimal, and up selling seems the norm. It's as if the business strategy is for a high volume of one-offs, rather than dependable, grateful regulars.

Zman, I like what you said....there is no hard and fast rule about age.....but I also feel there is no hard and fast rule about getting a recommendation about anything......whether it is about a masseur.....an escort....or a restaurant. I have received massages from men in their 20's all the way into their 50's......and have had good and bad from all age groups. ( I am 47 y/0)......I also have had massages from men that were glorified in reviews on this site and other sites....and had bad experiences, even though they were raved about. Also had some great experiences from guys that were dissed on this site and other sites. Same with restaurants.....people have said " don't go there...food is terrible".....but went since it worked for me that day....and had a great meal. To summarize.....as far as age goes, good and bad in all age groups. As far as being reviewed.... I have had some lousy massages from guys that have had positive reviews here and on other sites......and great massages from ones on sites like Backpage or my local gay newspaper that I stumbled across and have never been mentioned here. This site and other sites are a great resource for a start.....but you need to go with your gut instincts to see what works for you....trust your intuition. And always remember.....it is only a "first world problem".......we are always looking for that next great massage......let's all be thankful we are always just musing on this site about who to choose to massage us.....while people in third world countries are looking for where their next meal is coming from....or where they will sleep tonite.....helps keep things in perspective :)

If you think about it, many people that enter the profession end up getting weeded out by the market. The younger someone is, in general the earlier in their career they will be, so you have a somewhat higher likelihood of getting one of the guys who will be weeded out because the field simply is not for them. Yes, there are older duds as well, but it's probably a bit more likely if they've been doing it a while they are reasonably good at it.

Yes this has always been an issue for me. Almost mid 50s' (wow where did that time go) I always feel like uncle pervy if I am getting a massage from someone in their 20s. Though I do on rare occasion. I have had really good massages from every age group over the years. Though some of the worst have been older guys 30's to 50's. Age doesn't always bring expertise and some just have natural skills at an early age. I think if you are hiring someone in their 20's read the text in the ad carefully. That and the pictures are good clues. If it is all about them and little about the client experience you shouldn't be surprised by a bad massage. A photo of the massage space is a great clue to the type of experience you might encounter, a 20 something that has taken the time and effort to create an environment conducive to a relaxing massage is usually one that cares about his clientele. In all honesty when we were in our 20's we probably would have preferred to massage athletes and models over paunchy old guys but that is the trick, finding a person who generally cares about the client no matter what age or how he looks.

Not sure if it's an age thing but it may be more about preference. It's probably like dating. You go out with someone you like and you're very attentive and engaged with your date. You get setup on a date with someone that's not your type and you can't wait for it to end. I think that's why some masseurs are more interactive and some not based on their interest with their clients.

I had somewhat similar experiences. I started getting massage at 25. Most of the therapists were older and eager to play. In my 30's and 40's, I had many pleasurable experiences with therapists, often around my age. Now that I'm older, I tend to look for therapists over 30, although I have been surprised by the interaction I've had with a few therapists in their 20's.

I'd say it's more about mutual attitude and chemistry than age differences. I usually look for masseurs 30-40 years younger than me, and have had great results. Yes, probably more of my share of misfires from the age group I'm using for massage. But it's my preference, my due diligence, and my result.

Also, I take exception when someone uses the word "pervy" to describe a client liking the older/younger vibe.

In fairness, he was describing how he felt about himself which inhibits his going to a younger masseur. I thought it was a fair statement, even related to it a bit for myself and didn't feel like any judgement was being passed on.

Thanks EV Dude,

Yes that is it exactly, some young guys actually prefer the Daddy type. I was just saying I have issues in that area. In the straight world you might hear "She's young enough to be his daughter" so those thoughts do get ingrained. So no need to take exception. But my apologies for not bing more PC in this very sensitive world. Life is short just enjoy what ever experience makes you happy as long as all involved are on board.

With massage, you have to keep at it and try out a lot of different guys. Some will be better than others, and yes, chemistry (everything from age to face to body to energy) will play into your experience. The best strategy is not to take it personally if the guy doesn't deliver to your expectations. We're all human.

Ok I'm adding to the bump because I needed to say what a great topic this is/was. Being a geezer myself this is an issue I've dealt with now for several years and hearing all sides of it from different perspectives is/was great. In some ways, my inactivity on this board over several months is parallel with my massage experience. Just kind of going through longer lulls in the libido and for someone who was highly active and generally always pursuing a massage, this is new territory. Hope folks will continue to add to this discussion when they see fit or give it a bump now and then and new people enter new territory. Thanks again to all.

As I’m usually all about an excellent technical massage first and foremost, I tend to go for older guys for their (assumed?) experience. That said, over the past 18 months I’ve become a big spa fan where experience and age are limited. So my independent masseur hires tend to be over 35, and with the help of this forum and the delightfully ever winding Spas in NYC thread, I go for the spa masseur of the moment.
