In preparation to my first visit to Philadelphia I am looking for information about where to stay. I am looking for a centrally located, 4-5 star hotel with high-speed Internet and preferably with a nice gym. Thanks for any suggestions you'd like to make and information you'd like to share.

I always stay at the Doubletree. Great hotel. Central location. Right next to the gay area. If you want something even more deluxe, the Ritz Carleton is only a few blocks away.

The Hyatt/Bellevue Hotel is central and has one of the better work out facilities in it. The Alexander Inn (12th and Spruce) is a gay B&B which appears to be pretty nice and I've heard good things. 12th Street is the gay gym and only 1.5 blocks away.

The grandest hotel in Philly is the Four Seasons on Logan Square, where Philly's movers and shakers meet, but it is not very conveniently located unless you like to walk a lot, or unless your main interest is the art museums and Fairmount Park (great in spring, summer or fall, but not right now). The Bellevue on Broad St. has the glitziest gym in the Sporting Club, but the gay gym, as others have noted, is 12th Street Gym, two blocks east of Broad St. Since I never actually stay in hotels, I don't know what their electronic facilities are like. The Omni is a nice place and well located if you are interested in the historic area around Independence National Park or the hip Old City area (where the latest MTV "Real World" was set); the closest gym there is Old City Ironworks on N. 3rd St.--it's not gay, but the owners, Howard and his son Scott, are genuinely nice supermacho straight men. The Alexander Inn has a good reputation, but it's small and I don't know about its computer facilities. The Hyatt at Penns Landing is nice in summer, but inconvenient for getting around unless you have a car with you. There are other big hotels downtown, such as the Doubletree and Ritz-Carlton (already noted) on Broad St., or the Marriott and Loews on Market St. In fact, Philly has a glut of high-end hotels, so be sure to bargain for a good rate.
