This is my first time on this forum. Be gentle. I'm not very computer savvy.

I apologize up front, because I am sure this has been discussed ad infinitum here, but I have very little technical skill and any simple suggestions, instructions or reference to previous threads will be greatly appreciated.

My computer is an Ellipses notebook. I keep getting "emergency" messages that my computer is "28%" infected with viruses from porn sites I have visited and I have 2 or 3 minutes to install XYZ before my sim card and all data is corrupted. I understand what malware is, but don't really know what I need and what is a scam. Are there one or two aps I should install for protection? What do you suggest?

Thanks!

To go along with the question Glennn has, I get those as well, and recently an audio that I could not X out and continuously cycled. I had to shut down/restart. I also get the pop ups adds when checking out other sites such as medical sites, health sites. These also will occasionally freeze up the screen and I have to start out at ground zero. I do have my pop up blocker on. Thanks, WG2

Kaspersky is as good as any. The important thing is to get SOMETHING immediately and let it keep itself updated!

Note that environments are not all created equal. What works well for some (Kaspersky) is known to conflict with some ISPs. If it turns out you're one of those, there are other trusted sources. Just come back here and ask. You won't actually know if this applies to you until you've tried it.

One other mistake I've seen from novices is thinking "if one is good I'll get several different ones". Don't do it. They just clobber each other. Pick a horse and stick with just that one.

The one I like is System Mechanic Professional. It is not known, but I've been using it for almost 4 years now and my PC is clean and working fast. It is not only antivirus and malware but also a performance enhancer.

Before SMP I had Norton and McAfee, they failed to protect my system and my PCgot major infections.

They all have upswings and downswings. ALL OF THEM.

It's a tough business to be in because of the constant threat from zero-day exploits. Some viruses are mutating and spreading faster than the A/V vendors can update their virus definitions. You best defense, frankly, is BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU CLICK ON.
