Parking in Downtown Montreal is really expensive, you don't need a car in Montreal. Most hotels in downtown Montreal charge $25.00 + per day to park your car in the hotel parking lot.

If you want to rent a car, do so on a Sunday for the day. You can drive all over, up to Mont, etc. There is not be much traffic on a Sunday and parking is not so difficult. Return the car at the end of the day.

Hmmm I have a private trip scheduled with a client to Montreal this weekend. He booked us into the Gouverneur Hotel, high floor city view business room. He chose it for the walking distance to everything... no Uber required. I've been there before a while ago with friends, etc, and it was ok. Nothing exceptional but functional. Hopefully it won't be a let down for him! I guess I'll warn him so he can either change the reservation or at least not be blindsided. I may follow up once we're back.

I stayed there last month for five nights in the exact same type of room. You will be fine. It is like a standard Sheraton or Hilton. The business rooms are nicer and you have access to a lounge. You cannot beat the location if you want to be in the Gay Village with easy access to the dancing boy bars. I have eaten their buffet breakfast at least a hundred times over the years and it is delicious.

If you want a luxury hotel, there are many in Montreal but they are not in Gay Village.

Great, thanks Louie! That makes me feel better. Normally we stay in a W or another Starwood. I admit I suggested the Gouverneur to him when he said the W was a bit far away from where we were going to spend our time. I knew it would be "less than" what we usually had, but couldn't beat the location and (from what I remembered) would be fine with the accommodations.

Speak for yourself. That buffet breakfast at the Gouverneur was the most nasty thing I've ever had in my lifetime. Made me physically ill with food poisoning before my flight.

I wouldn't turn a blind eye to all the reviews.

The Gouverneur is awesome, not just for location but for food court, drug store, grocery store, beer and liquor store and bank all without going outside. Yes I always get a business room on a secure floor.

I guess everyone's view of what "Awesome" is varies.

It's Montreal, there are a zillion food places and convenience stores. Even the Hyatt downtown has a food court, drug store, etc. It's not unique to the Gouverneur.

If you normally stay at the "W" (which costs around twice as much) good luck with the Gov! LOL

I will add my 2 cents as well. The only appealing thing to me about the Gouvernor to me is location. It is nicely located. Rooms are dated and has an old smell to them. The restaurant is adequate but definitely better places to eat. Service at the hotel is not that great in my opinion. On top of all of that....some of the folks that may visit you in your room are not a big fan of the hotel either, and may pass on paying a visit. There are better places for same price point in the general area. There is a nice bed and breakfast, airnb rentals, and definitely nicer hotels that are well within walking distance to the clubs and restaurants. I have been 6 or 7 times and have never felt unsafe there.

Ditto to most of the above. Bozo isn't sure he would classify the Governour as a "dump", but it certainly is "dumpy". A Bozo rating of two stars, and that's being generous. The Governour has been in desperate need of upgrades and renovations for decades. The hallways and guest rooms have that stale musty odor of an old aged home. Bozo also cannot fathom why anyone would stay there for the "location". If you're going to be spending your evenings and nights ogling the boys at the strip clubs in the gay village why would you also want to be in that area during the daytime? Makes no sense when there are far better options. Montreal has many nicer and safer neighborhoods that are only a short Metro ride from the "village" with far better accommodations than the Governour.

I've never stayed at The Gouvernor, but it would be hard to beat if one values location to the gay scene over everything else. I stay exclusively in the downtown area. Just got back from MTL and stayed two nights at The W Hotel and four nights at The Sheraton. I am quite happy to take a quick Metro trip or short taxi ride to/from the clubs.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got back from MTL. The airbnb I rented turned out to be a scary hovel, so I walked, but found myself temporarily without shelter. Finding a hotel room this weekend on short notice was near impossible, but I wound up at the Gouvernor for the first two nights. It was pretty okay. Room was clean, bed was comfy. My room DID smell slightly like stale beer, but I convinced myself it was all part of the charm. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast included with my room was maybe a bit above standard hotel breakfast buffet fare. Overall, I thought it was perfectly adequate, probably better-than-adequate for the price, and every escort in MTL knows it intimately, so to speak.

To my intense amusement, there just happened to be a FantasyFest there over the weekend. Tons of boys and girls wandering around in latex, though pretty subdued on the sex side. There were far more seminars than orgies. But, as I was leaving Saturday morning (they only had rooms available for the first two nights of my trip), a group of about 50 Asian tourists were checking in. About half of those 50 appeared to be 15 y/o or under. I sense the rest of the weekend was, well awkward.

After a bit of a panic about becoming homeless after the Gouvernor kicked me out, I found a room at the Hotel William Gray. New hotel, 6 weeks old, right in Old Montreal (about 10 minutes by cab from the Gouvernor). AMAZEBALLS! Really great hotel with a modern upper portion built atop and incorporating one of the typical stone residences of Old Montreal. Beautiful rooms, great restaurant, a ridiculously friendly but not obsequious staff. And, the guys who staff the lobby as bellboys/car parkers/general all around utility players are ALL smokin' hot. It was a little more expensive than I'd usually go for a hotel room in a major city (a little over US$300/night) but well worth the splurge if you can do it. I will definitely go back.

Can't help on the OP's question. The night I went to Stock and Campus at about 11pm, there was nothing at all going on. Didn't wait around that long.

I did spend time with Gabriel Clark while I was there. OMGOMGOMG. Best investment in a guy ever. A ridiculously positive review is forthcoming, but if you're thinking of hiring while you're there, FFS meet him!

Also back from Labor Day weekend in Montreal -- weather was perfect and the clubs I frequented - Campus and Stock were decent. I found it odd that Campus has cut back on its afternoon dancers - as in there weren't any. As was reported by others, the dancers don't start working until 7 or even later as I found to be the case Sunday night at Campus which was billed as Ladies' Night and there was nary a dancer on stage at 9 pm when I arrived. I hope this doesn't become the norm - and I am scratching my head over how a place that bills itself as a stripper bar plans to stay in business without strippers. There were more strippers on Friday evening when I arrived, but in general the same dancers worked all three nights I was there - with little variety. The scene at Stock was ok, with more action on Friday and Saturday nights, but few of the guys were as buff as I like - and there were no big muscle guys to be found at Campus at all this past weekend. I did catch one super bodybuilder strolling on Ste. Catherine with his wife and two daughters in tow. He must be in his early 40's with a face and body that was a total head turner. Alas, he was the best looking guy I saw all weekend. I always enjoy the vibe in Montreal, and the attractive men of Montreal...

I was at Stock over the weekend in late August. Had some really good private dances with Jo and Yannick.

In terms of atmosphere, Stock wasn't the best I've seen on a Saturday night and it wasn't the dancers, it was mainly some of the other patrons.

One guy who must have been in his early 20s was the only patron sat at the front of the stage, but spent most of his time there with his head buried in his smartphone, even when he had a dancer performing right in front of him.

Another patron on the table next to me spent almost the whole night sat completely expressionless with his arms folded. He literally didn't move a muscle, not even to order a drink. I saw another patron who didn't even let a very friendly dancer who approached him finish speaking (let alone make eye contact) before giving him the brush off.

I appreciate patrons will go to Stock with varying degrees of confidence about being in a strip club but it was a bit disappointing to see poor social etiquette on the part of a minority of patrons. Stock on a Friday and Saturday is really at its best when dancers and patrons are both putting in the effort and feeding off each other.

As for giving a dancer the brush-off, that sounds really abrupt. If I'm not into the guy, I'll still usually let him finish his spiel but say (in French usually) that right now I'm just watching, thanks. But I try to be polite. I know time is money to them & I don't want them to waste time they could spend trying to get someone who's more interested to go for a lap dance.

I'll be in Montreal next week and I cannot wait :-) I arrive on Tuesday, which I seem to recall isn't a busy night, but if there's a dancer I like, I'm guessing I'll have less competition for his attention. I've been in a club before where some guy (I think he's been called Drunk Lawyer on here?) was paying 3 or 4 of the hottest ones to sit with him. (While watching other dancers on stage from a front row seat, lol)
