That looks like Wm Faulkner on the back cover and, judging by the book's position, I'd guess it is "Sartorius" (sic).

Wonderful movie with an all star cast. A bit creaky, but really worth it. The older lady is Marie Dressler near the end of a brilliant career as a comedian and character actress. Funniest last line in all film. Cast includes, John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore, Billie Burke, Jean Harlow, Wallace Beery, Marie Dressler, among others.
