Broad question, I know, but I'm wondering if any client here has been arrested or questioned or caught by a sting. There was a Backpage sting set up not far from where I live where many clients were lured into hiring female escorts who were actually cops. A very prominent local figure was caught in it.

All the talk about RB's impact on RM has begun to make me slightly uneasy about discussing personal activities on here so I'm just wondering what the chances are of it leading to problems. I also wonder if I'm too cavalier about it. I use my personal cell, email with my name on it etc. I also have only met guys who were known and discussed here.

Also, have any escorts on here run into legal issues? been arrested etc?

I'm not super worried or paranoid - more a combination of cautious and curious.

important issue and worth reviewing.....

I'm no expert, but have gleaned suggestions over the years from earlier discussion here and other places.....

I use a bought-with-cash "trac-phone"-style pay-as-you-go phone for this hobby and always pay cash when recharging it....only a couple or three well-trusted guys (escorts) have my real full name and personal phone number....

I'm sure you know to avoid direct sex-for-money talk....use the typical phrases like "for your time", "donation", etc. when asking the rate....I also ask new guys (haven't met before) to not discuss money at the meeting at all...I tell them I'll pay at the end of the meeting and ask if that is ok.....

during pre-meet planning, instead of asking, "will you give me head?", you may want to say, "I like to get head"....subtle and picky, I know, but might help when your emails/texts are brought up in court;)

the periodic stings we read about are usually concerned with exploited women and children in an attempt to find pimps and abusers....or they may be a result of community complaints about increased activity in a specific neighborhood....there is always a chance of getting busted as a john, but follow your gut, avoid hotel rooms with connecting doors (!), don't mention money at the meeting, stick with well-reviewed guys (note to self!), follow your gut.....

I understand and feel your concern. I am a prominent person in my community ( I won't say important, but widely known) I have always been more concerned about my activities causing embarrassment for my family and friends than police action.

I use a different name and email account for my participation here and for hiring. I can't say I'm 100% security conscious, but I have taken some steps. I guess my bottom line is, if I am going to be disrespected by my community after a lifetime of public service and good citizenship, I can do without their approbation.

On the legal front, if legal action is taken against me, I am prepared to defend legalization of voluntary sex work (with all the codicils and disclaimers regarding human trafficking and children. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!

Good question; never had legal problems but have had one experience where I was somewhat

blackmailed/intimidated for additional money or else he'd let officials know. while scared I

reminded him that I also had a record of our discussions and I would gladly show this was

consensual or I was duped. I was quickly left alone but it reminded me about caution. It's

too bad, and this may sound weird, but what I do with my money is my business and if

there are two consenting adults, what's the issue.

I learned a long time ago that you can't walk around in fear of what might happen. While the old adage "don't do the crime if you ain't got the time" is true, there is absolutely nothing to prevent a police officer from accusing you of a crime whether or not you are guilty or innocent and some jackass of a newspaper to publish your arrest for it. So, don't be stupid, don't assume unnecessary risks, but don't think for a second that just because you don't do anything wrong that you can't find yourself arrested and charged for solicitation some day. Mine as well enjoy life instead of being afraid of it.

But to answer the OP question, no, I have not had legal problems for this (at least yet), although the one escort who attempted extortion of me did threaten this as part of his routine.

I actually never even considered the repercussions. I've always felt the authorities had more important things to worry about. In fact, I had a RB account as I do with RM and wasn't concerned at all after the raid. I figure that regardless of what I write, they can't actually prove it, so they won't pursue prosecution. I must admit, when I recently renewed my account, I was a little uneasy about using my credit card so I purchased one of those prepaid AMEX cards. It didn't work cause I believe those are not valid outside the US. I do use my personal cell, but never give my complete name and my email is a "burner account".

Again, I'm not overly worried and I have only.. spent time. .with guys who are reviewed and known. But I have wondered if this site itself could be used, based on the pretty open conversations we all have with each other.

Someone made a good point in PM: that the government could search anything they want to so using a fake account name, cell number etc won't stop them if they're determined. I'm sure that's true.

I know both clients and escorts who have been arrested on the m4m side. I have heard that being in a holding cell is not very fun. I'd be careful with immediate appointments off the less-trusted sites. But I would agree that extortion/harassment/theft from escorts is probably a larger concern than law enforcement.

Keep in mind also that some working guys keep detailed records of all of their encounters. These notes include contact information, date(s) of appointments, recollections of conversations and of the client's sexual activities. These jottings help the working guy to greet a previous client as an old friend.

Gee, and I have heard just the opposite!

All kidding aside, I have never gone the stealth route with my cell phone or email. Though with an exception or two over the years I have always used guys that were well reviewed on this site or were recommended as being reputable by a friend.

The only time that I inadvertently gave my real name was my very first hire when being green I actually forgot to remove it from my email info. Fortunately the guy was more than reputable. Interestingly, he was very private regarding his identify so I think that made him respect the privacy of others.

While not a famous personality in my community, I would have had quite a bit to loose if discovered. As such I guess I acted a bit more daringly than others would have done based on the some if the responses given above. Of course thanks to this board I have gotten tips on guys to avoid. As I have posted here previously there is only one escort that I have invited to my residence.

Interestingly, I met one escort shortly after he was discovered by the police. (I had been tipped off to that fact by a fellow escort and it was before he had my contact information.) Not surprisingly he was quite suspicious of me as a client and was extremely "careful" before we got things going. He did not know that I knew and as such I cut him some slack regarding the situation. Otherwise I would have thrown him out because he acted like a dead fish until he was confident that I was not a cop.

I have had a few escorts either rip me off or try to do so, but I avoid trouble with the fuzz by (1) hiring only known escorts or porn stars, and (2) not agreeing to pay a certain amount for certain acts either verbally or in writing. There must be a certain record of your agreeing to do certain acts for money for a criminal case to prevail. I have had money stolen from me by NickyBlueEyez, and that guy from North Carolina whose name I can't recall stole a golden cartouche with my name in Egyptian hieroglyphics from me once. A souvenir from Egypt. Oh, well.

You've heard of clients being arrested for using the site? Like just posting there? or you mean being arrested for hiring off of that site and they got arrested when they showed up for an appointment? Has anyone ever gotten in trouble just of posting about their experiences on a site like RentBoy?

Can an escort be evicted from an apartment (rental, co-op, condo) if he is found to be seeing clients on the premises? Suppose, for example, that the escort gains co-op or condo board approval by stating that he's a lawyer, accountant, teacher -- whatever. And then the board finds other sources of income are being earned on the premises.

Are you referring to the NickyBlueEyez who has an ad in the San Francisco section of Rent Men?

We should have an area of the forum or a permanent thread on top of the lounge to talk about "sting" operations by the police...

I've never had nor heard of any issues.

I avoid BP/CL, anything remotely related to PnP, make appointments days in advance and do lots of due diligence on newbs/unknowns. (And there's one jurisdiction in ATL I won't go to.)

For hiring, not for just posting on the site.

I'm talking about escorts and clients directly telling me they were arrested for solicitation based on what they said to undercover officers. The repercussions seem to have mostly been just the trauma of going through the process of being taken to jail.

The escorts and clients I know who have been arrested are not going to run to the message board to recount their experiences. Conversely, people who have never had any problems will gladly note as much. So I thought it was important to share that data point that arrests happen. They are rare, but not unheard of.

Thanks, @Mikegaite for the clarification. I was surprised when I first found this site that people talk so openly about hiring experiences. Fortunately, the only time I've spent with professionals was spent talking about politics, weather etc. With just a hug to say goodbye. That might have lasted two hours.

While some may interpret this as a joke, I think it raises a very important point. Many people may assume that hiring an escort involves an exchange of money for sexual contact and that it is therefore illegal in most jurisdictions. But this is really nothing but an assumption, and I believe it is often an incorrect assumption. Sometimes people just want companionship, to talk about issues they’re having, to spend time with a guy they find attractive, to hug and cuddle, or any number of other things that do not cross the line into illicit sexual contact. http://www.companyofmen.org/threads/a-session-with-no-sex.111157/

I suspect that it depends on the terms of the lease or the HOA rules. Many condos prohibit businesses of any kind from operating out a residence. Still, I would guess (and this is just a guess) that it would be much easier to evict a rental tenant than to force a condo owner to vacate his/her own home.
