Just saw the comments. They are inappropriate and disrespectful. What an arrogant little twat. That's it, he's off my Christmas list. ;)

I didn't follow Prince's career closely, but he was hugely talented, performed maybe the best Super Bowl halftime show ever, and reminded us that there's no one right way to be a man. (The last is not an original thought; h/t Alyssa Rosenberg.)

 

Also, I managed to miss news of Keith Emerson's death. :(

Today sucks. RIP Prince.

 

It’s hard to pick a ‘favorite’ Prince moment. But one of those is the time he gloriously kicked famous-for-doing-nothing Kim Kardashian off his stage.

 

The incident took place at Madison Square Garden back in 2011.

Kardashian apparently didn’t realize that when Prince invites you on stage to dance, you’re supposed to lose your mind and f**cking dance. But instead, Kardashian got up on stage, clapped and sort of shook her head “no” as Prince danced at her.

 

Unamused at Kardashian’s lack of enthusiasm and dancing skills, Prince danced around the reality star before admonishing her with a simple “Get off the stage.”

Seeing Prince live, multiple times, was transcendent. He had us eating out of the palm of his hand. I've spent the weekend reading all the amazing articles and watching all the available live performances. I loved him so much. Breaks my heart. Yes, his more recent music was hard for me to tap into, and WTF Jehovah's Witness??, but his music sexualized me before I knew what sex was.

 

One of the comments on one of the NYTimes articles said that in concert, the Beetles live loved you. Prince live had sex with you, but it wasn't anonymous.

 

God I still can't believe he's gone.

I hope is not too soon for any of yinz I think it was done in a very respectful way.

 

 

This is a beloved sketch, and the best part is it's based on fact. In high school Prince played basketball, well. And this story actually occurred: he challenged Murphy to basketball and did great! In concert, Prince occasionally twirled a basketball. And how great was Chappelle in this (in everything)?

 

To me the funny thing about the pancake reference at the end of the sketch is that in one of the comments in a new york times article, someone discussed being served pancakes at the end of a party at Paisley Park; so maybe that part is also true, maybe Prince liked pancakes--being a Minnesotan maybe he, like me, craved wild rice pancakes . (I attended those drug and alcohol free all night Paisley Park parties in the mid nineties; they were amazing.)
