This has lots of applications. I have three client segments in my consulting gig: Entertainment, Banking, and Start-ups. Narcissists abound. I employ option 2 quite a bit - I have no choice since option 1 is no bueno for business. I also find option 2 (somewhat) kinder and takes more brain power, which is always more fun. Once you have a narcissist in your corner, it can be a powerful position to influence positive change (maybe not for them, but for their subjects).
