Chuck,

My copy of the DVD is on back order at a local bookstore. I saw the movie at a theatre here in Salt Lake City where the writer/director held a Q&A session. I immediately bought the book. For me (a former Mormon missionary) the movie and book have additional meaning and interest.

Here's a link to the website of Steve Sanvoss (for the guy that played the part of the missionary).

Great photos, interviews, and info.

You may also want to search the archives here in the Message Center. There was a good discussion of the movie a few months ago.

Here's a good picture of Steve.

Saw it. Loved it. Not much more to say. Oh, if possible, worth seeing in a theater. Fun to go see a movie where we're the evident majority.

Loved the movie actually moved me more than almost any movie I have seen since it hit very close to home. I won't elaborate since there was already a thread on this, however, I loved the movie!

Saw the DVD from Netflix last night....had some reservations at first but the ending found me with a couple of tears in my eyes. Was so happy that people like Jacqueline Bisset and Mary Kay Place were in it...they added the "sophistication" and glamour that I found missing in the movie. Overall, I would recommend it as a movie that many gay men, mormons or not, can relate to.

I saw it when it came out and thought it enjoyable, but altogether forgettable. In fact, I HAD forgotten about it until this thread. I found the sex-addict to be a little offensive (I'm tired of seeing guys running around in tight mini-shorts - at least as characters in movies) and the writing was wobbly.

However, I did enjoy Miss Bisset (which, as she says, is pronounced like "kiss it") and I also thought Mary Kay Place's big scene with her son was absolute perfection.

For those of you praying for full-frontal nudity, there is none of the two leads.

Out of a total five, I'd give it one Fin and just half a Fang.

Cinematically yours,

I had the pleasure of seeing this flick with my favorite (now-retired) escort in a NYC theater, and it was a lot of fun! It'll always be a very happy memory in my mind, and I definitely wanna pick it up on DVD. Probably the best gay movie I've ever seen (though I haven't seen a huge number yet).

I cannot recommend this movie enough!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw it four times in the theatre when it came out last spring and now have bought the DVD and have purchased several copies as gifts for friends. It touched on so many aspects of my life-- the kid from Pocatello and I have alot in common. Steve Sandvoss depiction of the innocent young religious boy was dead on-- many of us bought into a system which held us captive in many ways about being gay. It took me many years to get out of mine--- I thought the music was was great too. The rendition of "Abide with Me" is a real tear jerker!! I think most people with a modicum of religious back ground will find this a great film. C. J. Cox did a superb job telling his story...

Peace,

Kipp:)

RE: Latter Days and Dr. Vegas

Steve Sandvoss, the cute guy from Latter Days, is on Dr. Vegas tonight. He's playing a groom on his honeymoon.

Since I've only seen him in a gay role, this shows another side to his acting skills.

I thought he was convincing as a gay. He's equally convincing (and cute) as a straight man.

I thought the best word to describe him on Dr. Vegas was "incipid"

And although I am a huge Rob Lowe fan, I thought the show was a load of caw caw. My money is on it folding after a few episodes. Lowe's acting skills were not in evidence - he's not known for his acting abilities but for his cuteness. And cute he was. The entire hour was devoted to him walking around, then stoping to stand still and give us a few cute expressions. Even although I have been know to drool over him on occasion, I thought it was a bit much!
