I'll be in WeHo for a couple of days towards this month and wondered if anyone here had recommendations on the current hotel scene. (Things seem to change so quickly in LA.) Escort-friendly hotel recommendations would be appreciated. I know there was a discussion here, but it seems like it was quite a while back. I used to stay at the Ramada; convenient, but I'm looking for something different this trip.

Also, any cultural/ theatrical must-sees while I'm down there? I'd like to see the new Disney Hall; anyone know if they give tours during the day?

Cheers,

Over the years, I've stayed in most of the hotels in the part of West Hollywood that's relatively adjacent to Santa Monica from roughly La Cienega west to The Palm. If you're looking for something in roughly the same range as the Ramada, I recommend that you check out the Summerfield Suites. It's one block above the Ramada, comfortable, friendly and quiet.

Summerfield Suites is a great place. Very gay friendly.

Right up the street from Starbucks and Trader Joe's.

Residential and quiet, but just a block away from Santa Monica.

You might try the San Vicente Inn, a gay resort a block off Santa Monica and about a block from Mickeys. Allows nude sunbathing, and said to be very busy this time of the year (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). I havent actually tried it but maybe some guys here will tell us more.

Thanks for the suggestions; I went back and from previous threads it appears as tho the Wyndham would fit the bill for me.

A previous poster mentioned getting a $80-90 rate on Priceline by specifying a four star hotel in Hollywood/ West Hollywood zone (the Bel Age was the only hotel meeting that criteria). Priceline appears to have changed their zones so that West Hollywood is now included with Beverly Hills and Hollywood is by itself. I'm guessing that BH/ WeHo will have more 4 star hotels than Hollywood/ WeHo and I'd be less certain of getting the Bel Age. Any experience with Priceline to get the Bel Age recently?

The lowest rate on wyndham.com for the Bel Age is $152; another poster said a friend had gotten a rate of $111. Have rates gone up that much? Or is this High Season?

WeHo Scene

I suggest this site for West Hollywood and gay specific possibilities, especially the nightlife and calendar sections, in the area: http://www.westhollywood.com/

For some additional information which is not necessarily gay specific, but also includes ALL the West Hollywood hotels which might be offering rate specials, check out: http://www.visitwesthollywood.com/

Digital City has some great suggestions on places to eat and bar/nightclub reviews, you can check but zip code, which would be "90069" for West Hollywood.

Priceline has changed the zone and it actually goes all the way to Westwood, so you could end up there, but more likely it would be Century City at the West Century Plaza or another hotel in Beverly Hills, some of which are nice properties like the Meridien, the Sofitel, or even the venerable Beverly Hills Hilton. Checking out BiddingforTravel would give some sense of what you might end up with, but if you absolutely want to stay within West Hollywood, I would suggest getting some rates from Orbitz, Expedia and a few of the other sites (searching by zip code or address), and then trying to negotiate directly with the hotel. A client of mine from Oregon stays at the Bellage this way and saves about $25 to $50 off the rack rate.

I strongly discourage anyone from the San Vicente Inn who is not looking for a high sexual environment. They rarely, if ever, discount the rooms and many are not worth the rate the hotel asks for. For anyone who would like to experience it, I would suggest getting a day pass to use the pool and checking out on a nice sunny day.

Disney Hall DOES have guide tours, they are brief, cost $15, and happen throughout the days. Check out their web site here: http://www.musiccenter.org/wdch/index.html

You can look for escorts on line at the Frontiers News magazine web site, which will also include the current ads, which might show you if any are visiting. There is also a calendar section there, which includes some plays. There is nothing I would presenly recommend, although the road company of Hairspray is currently in town: http://www.frontiersnewsmagazine.com/

Enjoy your stay in SUNNY Southern California!

Yes, I can confirm that you might find yourself well away from WeHo if you go the Priceline route. I visited last month and bid for a 4* and got the Westin Century Plaza in Century City for $95. Very very nice hotel with cushy spa but very far from WeHo, and Century City is a weird sterile place. Keep monitoring biddingfortravel.com but I'd say if you want to be in the thick of things, Priceline is risky.
