Someone has a thread about the street scene on Santa Monica Blvd during the 70s and 80s. Anyone remember the playing going on in Griffith Park during that same period?

I remember reading a book about the (still unsolved) murder of a silent fim director WD Taylor which was in 1921 I think and was surprised to learn his man-servant was ARRESTED for soliciting young men for sex (for his employer) in Griffith Park, VERY surprised to know that it was a cruise spot THAT long ago! By my LA time (late 80's) as far as cute street pick-up for play (and oft pay lol) it was mostly S.M Bldv From the big porno theater and Eastward (the further E the more dangerous the pick-up). The spots for TONS of boys was either the area around the parking lot (or inside) the big coffee shop Yukon Mining Co lol and the tables outside the Oakie Dog stand near Highland :-) That old adult video/bookstore on the corner further West was also a heavy cruising spot (there's a shock :rolleyes:)

*I looked at a room for rent in a tiny house right off the blvd it was like 9am and the several of the lawns had discarded condoms kaying on them oy lol.

Tonyko refreshes some fun memories. Oakie Dog, Yukon Mining Co, and Astro Burger (before they renovated) Santa Monica was fun back in the day, as was Griffith Park. I never went, but many of my friends did. It was scandalous, from what I have heard.

 

Someone has a thread about the street scene on Santa Monica Blvd during the 70s and 80s. Anyone remember the playing going on in Griffith Park during that same period?

I remember discovering the Park in my late teens.... riding through on my bicycle... one of the back roads... . Saw guys hanging around....... some very hot guys, Of course, taking one of the many paths into the bushes, guys followed, lots going on. Had to be careful with notorious LAPD vice squad sometimes lurking.

When I first moved to LA 18 years ago I asked the guy who cuts my hair where he thought a good nearby place to Mountain Bike would be. He didn't know for sure, but the thought there might be some good trails in Griffith park. I drove there to investigate and quickly found out bikes were forbidden on the trails. I continued hiking and saw a guy standing along the trail. Just standing. I thought that was odd, continued up, and another guy was just standing. Weird. Ok, third guy it hit me, "this must be one of those cruising places!" I'd never been to one. We didn't have them in Minnesota: The banks of the Mississippi were once an infamous (someone was murdered) cruising spot in Minneapolis, but before my time. I never did go back, I was more focused on Mountain Biking; also it seemed legally risky. And because of Mountain Biking I found a fantastic cruising spot in the San Gabriels.
