have not seen this posted elsewhere, so mentioning it now....sorry if I'm repeating....

very recently met with a well-reviewed escort who told me this while we were chatting....had never heard of this style of scam and wanted to warn everybody....

might be forgetting some details, but the general idea is apparent....this escort was contacted by a new and young client for a meeting....when they met, the client told the escort something like, "hey, great post on craigslist....glad we made this meeting work"....the escort shrugged it off as some mixup as the escort only advertises on rentmen....later in the meeting, it turned out, the escort found out the client had borrowed the escort's pictures from his rentmen ad and had created an entirely fake craigslist ad of the escort....all in an attempt by the client to get a free (craigslist) hookup with the escort!!!.....it all came out when the client showed the escort the craigslist ad during the meeting....stupidly, the client physically gave the escort his phone to show him the craigslist ad and the escort was able to figure out the scam....the smart escort was still able to make the client ultimately pay for the session.....

I didn't understand this on first reading. On second reading, I'm guessing you mean a Craig's List personal ad as opposed to 'professional' ad. I'm not sure why this would work though. Since Craig's List stopped posting professional ads, some of the 'personal' ads are really 'professional' ads in disguise.

I'm sure the fake CL ad made up by the client was posted in one of the "free" hookup areas of CL, like "men seeking men" or similar

Not sure I tots get this either. If the scam is creating the fake NON PRO CL ad for a scort then claiming you were meeting for a regular M4M hook up and did NOT intend to pay, then it seems ODD that the scort could arrange an apt WITHOUT ever mentioning rates time is the client cool with his etc or mentioning the word appointment etc, things the scammer could obvs NOT respond to or address which would be a BIG flag for the scort. No? I mean ANY conversation Email text etc tween a scort and client is very diff from 2 dudes just hooking up. At least in MY experience  Just seems wierd.

yeah, Tony, you're right and I obviously didn't remember all the escort's details of how it all went down minute-by-minute.....

but the moral of the story is for escorts to be careful of this phony craigslist-hookup thing with scamming clients looking for a freebie

azdr070:

I know this story, we might have met up with the same escort. I was told back in April, our session was a week after this happened to him. The scammer in his early 20's tried to pull it off as a CL hook-up right after their time together, claiming the escort originally posted at that site and charged a lower rate. When this guy tried to insist on the fake CL ad, the escort took the scammer's phone.

The only way for him to get his phone back was to pay him the agreed rate. This guy didn't bring cash, he ended up paying through credit card. Fortunately, the credit card transaction was not rescinded. If the escort didn't put his foot down and made it difficult for the scammer to leave with his phone, he would have been victimized.

I think you are making a really good point here, that no one else seems to grab. The story does not make any sense from the beginning. How come an escort is going to make an appointment without discussing and agreeing on a fee??? It sound like a second class urban legend to me.

no good deed goes unpunished, I guess....sorry I brought it up

C'mon, azdr. You did what we all are supposed to do. You got a piece of information and you shared. And we discussed it and further examined it. Right now there is no answer to the point made by Tony, that turns the whole story into non sense. If you have more info and you can make sense of the story, we want to know.

Latbear, you must have missed the post by m.yi above. He explained it.

I did not miss it, Irtwo. The story still doesn't make sense to me. Every time I discussed a contract with an escort, the fee is clearly agreed on before meeting. Imdo not see how this can be revisited once met.

Maybe I can imagine some crazy guy having the crazy idea of changing the contract because he learned afterwards that the escort may charge less money in other situations. I would not call that a scam but just a stupid crazy idea with no chance of success.

Let's stop being overly critical! This is more of a warning to escorts. I'm tempted to contact the escort who told me the story similar to azdr, he's a well-respected poster here. I prefer that he makes that choice himself to clarify the details. Again, I assume we met up with the same escort or the client has victimized several other escorts.

The escort only had one ad (on RB) and had his rates posted. It was safe for him to assume that a client learned of him through his one and only online ad. The escort noticed something fishy when the young client (after their session) mentioned he saw his ad in CL. The escort knew this wasn't right because he never posted a CL ad.

The escort was smart enough to put his guard up and insist he be compensated for his time. He didn't have a profile Daddy's yet when he told me this story.

I wish a bish would.

I've actually had guys call me and say they seen me on CL. Like Kurtis Wolfe, I ask where they seen my ad. When they say Craigslist, I say what ad on CL. You mean, men4rent? That's another reason I keep 2 numbers. My personal hookups never have my ad number, and my ad callers don't have my personal number. It would never get mixed up.

Not to be ageist, but although I gush for young clients...I always make sure to get the money ahead of time.
