I happened over to the Members page and which name should startle me causing me to wake up in 2013 but Rick Munroe. He had not been on the notable members list and then, suddenly, without warning, there his name was written in rainbow neon colors and wearing a tiara. I checked his name to find he had some sort of activity yesterday. Knowing Rick, my guess he has some sort of activity every day, but I digress. So is it true??? Has the wit and wisdom Rick Munroe returned to the Forum? Will his ass soon be plastered over ever thread here? Has the upcoming presidential election brought Rick back to the fold?

Well if it is true. Welcome back. Now, a simple yes is enough and then shut the fuck up because no one wants to hear your neo-communist views on life, love and politics.

And speaking of obscure pop culture of the 1970's and 1980's

 

I'd say it's nice to have another smart ass around, but that would assume I am smart, as well as lower you to my level of being an ass.

 

Instead, as the aging diva, I will take the high road, and paraphrase The Divine Miss M:

 

Trust your talent. You don't have to be like me to get ahead around here, sweetie.

 

At least that's pretty close to what she said.

Hi Rick, Very, very happy welcome back. I noticed you were back yesterday and "liked" a few of my own personal favorites of all your posts. We go back a ways. You created, or were a part of, many of my favorite threads, including my all time favorite.

 

Just to be clear, you created my all time favorite thread, and we both know which one I am talking about.

OK, I am going to take a stab at this and it may make absolutely no sense at all. When Bette M. was first making a name for herself she was performing in gay establishments and playing mostly to gay crowds. The sort of provocative dress and flirtations she used she knew were not meant to go anywhere or meant to be provocative in the traditional sense of the word. What she showed (to me at least) was always a sense of strength as a woman and, of course, sadness as human being. She also showed there could be fun even though everyone was going through a nightmare together (AIDS). Later I lost a lot of interest in her when she appeared to go mainstream. She was making movies and singing for everyone. Since I did not keep track of her much, I don't think that she was using her sexuality as part of her routine. Now, I do not know Ariana Grande (I'm old, get over it!). I assume that her performance is meant for everyone and she uses provocative and sexual behavior to sell what she is doing, as many stars do. Thus Bette is comparing what she did to what is being done now. Sorry, I don't condone Ms. Midler's condemnation but only trying to understand it.

You have a better memory, although those two names are impossible to forget. Also RockHard and Skrubber. People I wish could come back: Doug69 and the amazing Jackhammer.
