All I know is I use Comcast and once out of 5 tries on average I get to the RM site. If this is because of a RM system upgrade they picked a terrible time for it!

Note that I only tried the Mac version of this.

In Windows, open a command line window ( Start button--> All Programs--> Accessories--> Command Prompt). In that window, type in "tracert rentmen.com" (without quotes of course) and press return.

On a Mac, open up a finder window and, in the search box on the upper right, type in "Network utility" (without the quotes). It will come up under applications. Double click it, and click on Traceroute. Then type in "rentmen.com" and click Trace.

I use a service other than Time Warner and was able to connect to rentmen.com successfully. This was what Traceroute showed:

Traceroute has started…

traceroute to rentmen.com (107.6.181.11), 64 hops max, 72 byte packets

Thanks FF..I tried this on windows just now. The prompt was that Tracert had started and printed out much of the same info as shown above, then said "Tracert successfully completed"...BUT...for me in FTL, rentmen still goes to default site.

Can you use a different browser? Or do you have a smartphone you could try? If your smartphone works, you could try tethering your computer to it.

Nothing works for me even after trying some of the above noted suggestions. I doubt that even having a degree from MIT would help! Tried on PC, iPad, iPhone.

Fortunately my iPhone is well stocked with contact info!

The silver lining of this thread is learning about a couple of new members and enjoying their avatars! :D

From my experience in web development, I think there's nothing Rentmen can do on their end to fix the problems (at the moment). It's probably a combination of the continuing site upgrades and increases in site traffic.

Major site upgrades are usually planned well in advance. I doubt Rentmen would've chosen this week to do a major site overhaul if they'd known what was going to happen... But once the first phase is deployed, you have no choice but to continue all the way through the upgrade or risk getting stuck with a completely broken website.

I assume it's just unfortunate timing. I expect once the site upgrades are in place, the site should become more stable.

Caveat: I am not affiliated in any way with Rentmen. But sometimes assumptions can start to get a life of their own and cast an unessecary negative light on things. And positivity is needed in a time like this. :)

Thanks, I have tried a different browser, and no success, the phone works however, but unless Rentmen resolves this (see how I blamed them :D) ...and I will give them time, no real hurry, I will just stay off the site via computer, never really used it anyway.

Digital B&D. :p

This took me a second or two. You should have bolded "tethering" for me to understand quicker.

I think it's too much of a coincidence that they just rolled out a major upgrade and the site is now inaccessible. They will eventually find the problem, fix it and all will be fine. For me, when I try to access Rentmen, I get what looks like a 404 error page, meaning that the home page can't be found. As nearly as I can tell, the escort profiles are intact and accessible. If you enter the URL of a profile of a guy you know, it comes up.

WOOF! All those possible scenarios. It's getting me excited... The slap, the twist, the pinch, the arthritic punch... the possibilities are endless!!!! :D

I wish SOMEONE (anyone) from RENTMEN would respond on here. I, personally, can log in to my ad and register as avail now from my IPhone but no luck at all from my laptop..... If this were Broadway I would liken the situation to the star breaking his leg and the understudy immediately breaking his leg as well!! Come on Rentmen STEP UP TO THE PLATE!!! Your time to take over the market is NOW......... @ www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop

My understanding is that tracert will show you the path that the "packets" take to get from you to rentmen.com. Maybe it would help to compare the tracert outcome of TW users who are able to connect to rentmen vs. those who are not.

If TW is censoring, the issue can be solved by switching to OpenDNS, as the poster above suggested. Here are the instructions for a PC. Just make sure to take a screenshot of the Ethernet Properties dialog in Windows (which is shown below) so you can get back to the default DNS is OpenDNS doesn't work for you.

It may be worthwhile to just wait a few days and see if the problem is on RentMen's end.

If you're getting a default 404 page or similar when visiting, it is definitely a cache. As long as you are reaching what looks like the RentMen site, then you are at least reaching their servers. For instance I always get a similar 404 error when I go to Citibank's website in Google Chrome but not Firefox. A lot of browsers like to catch the redirect and hold it in their cache until you really clear out your browser's profile, cache, etc.

Simple fix for Rentmen on this is to place a link back to the homepage from that 404 page or just force the /Default page to go back to their home page for the time being.

Thanks for your advice. It's really nice to have an IT expert in the house.

All that time in college I spent learning Fortran and Pascal. And it's basically useless for modern computing.

For me it seems to be an ISP issue. At my office, the ISP is AT&T U-verse. I have no problem accessing the site on any of the following:

Windows 7 PC -accessible with IE, Firefox or Chrome.

Windows 10 Laptop -accessible with IE (Edge), Firefox, Chrome.

iPhone 6 Plus - accessible with Safari and Chrome

iPad Air 1st gen - accessible with Safari and Chrome.

At home, the ISP is Comcast. I can only access the website with iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Air using the Chrome browser. Safari either takes me the 404 page holder or a random page holder. The Windows 10 laptop gives me a random page holder on any of the above browsers.

If I disable Wifi on the iPhone 6 Plus and access the Internet through Verizon LTE network. The site is still accessible with Chrome but not Safari (which takes me to a random page holder.)

Thanks FF. I actually started to switch to Open DNS last night, but then wasn't completely comfortable that I would be able to return to the original default settings in case Open DNS didn't work (since nothing to this point has)...SO I've adopted a wait and see. As mentioned before, I rarely if ever go on these sites, so waiting is a reasonable option for me.
