The most upsetting thing is the number or suicides. I am sure this is totally out of proportion to the general public statistics. That life became so difficult for them saddens me more than I can say. I can only hope that other sex workers can find a way to believe that they, too, are worthwhile to society.

 

My guess is that many sex workers join the industry because they do not have the education, training or self-worth and find this the easiest - or, sadly, the only, way to survive. Some of them - and I particularly point to David SF, Peter Hung, Benjamin Nicholas and Steven Drakker - realize their worth as human beings and go about their business knowing that they are actually contributing and hold their heads high.

 

So many of us on this board see many of the escorts as respected, good people that know that what they do is of value - and we should keep reminding them of that!

Yes it was hard to watch. The one thing that caught me off guard was not the number of young men who died of aids before year 2000. But how many men died because of health issues other than Aids and other reason after year 2000, drug overdoses, suicides, meningitis and heart failure was the reasons for their death after 2000. So Sad!

What a beautifully done but devastating vision. So many of those guys where the ones I first saw when I started watching gay porn. They died so very young and my heart bleeds for them all but especially the suicides.

Cried first time I saw this so IDK why I watched this updated one but I just did, all the way thru. So many of those faces I remember staring out at me on covers at newstands in HS when I was too scared to buy the mags. ( seeing one boy again just killed me because I did have his pix from a mag then I did get to know him in LA and was with him when he found out he was sick, he was so beautiful:() Re drug overdoses, suicides, meningitis and heart failure was the reasons for their death after 2000, some of these "may" be HIV related medically or emotionally, it's probably something we'll never know.

Many of the heart failure deaths are likely related to steroid use. I have two friends on that reel and my heart stopped both times when they appeared looking so young and healthy. One of them died two weeks after the picture on the screen was taken. If you have a drug problem, seek help. If you are lost and confused and are thinking about suicide, get help. There are more people out there willing to help than you can imagine.

Lindon Hawk did not die of suicide, but was a victim of road rage. He was punched after a minor accident and suffered a massive head injury. He was essentially murdered.

And I did not see Leo Ford on this list. He was killed in a motorcycle accident. It was supposedly the same motorcycle featured in the film Class Reunion.

This was so difficult to watch. I had to stop and will come back to it. I lost many friends to AIDS, and I knew some of these guys in the memorial tribute. Thanks so much for posting this tribute, but it is very sad to watch and think about them and other friends who were lost and who we continue to lose unnecessarily. My heart goes out to their close friends and family.

I believe some of the suicides, especially those from the 80s and 90s, were in reaction to an AIDS diagnosis at a time when that was considered a death sentence.

A very beautiful, but very sad, tribute. I was fortunate enough to meet some of these guys many years ago through a friendship with Chuck Holmes (Falcon Studios). Beyond their beauty and magnetism, they were all genuinely nice people. I still screen their videos once in a while and remember better times for all of us. May each and everyone rest in peace.
