We make fun of "tighty whities" ... just calling them that is making fun of them ... and there are the boring old brand names (Jockey, Fruit of the Loom) we knew when we were kids ... but there is something about them on a GROWN ASS MAN ... the (ummm...) innocence of a regular guy, his big cock, his full balls in that basic white cotton ... not really thinking about how FUCKING sexy he is ... none of that announcing or exploiting of is sexuality with some high-priced, high-end, big-name underwear (let alone these friggin' panties) that is sexier than anything. I won't lie, I like crossdressing to a point. It says "fuck you" to gender norms I hate. But unless one's going whole hog and doing drag, a bra on top of panties, stockings, and garters is going too far for me. The point is to mix gender norms, not slavishly ape them.

 

This is one area in which slash fan fiction and m/m romance can be criticized as not representative of gay men's experiences, as there's a fair amount (fan fiction especially) dealing with crossdressing as a kink. But that reflects the fact that the vast majority of writers and most of their audience are female-bodied, whether ciswomen or trans men, and appreciate the critique of gender norms.

 

Right now I'm reading a Hannigram (Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham from the TV series) story being posted serially in which Hannibal gives Will women's underwear, garters, and stockings (not clear if made for men or simply the right size). To me, it's incredibly hot and romantic. It might not be for you. But the same writer (cis, as far as I know heterosexual) has also written incredibly fucked up scenarios, including a Sherlock fic featuring med fet that is incredibly dark and twisted but also manages to make sounding seem hot when if I were male, the thought of it would make me want to cross my legs. She wrote it entirely based on research, not real-life experience with kink. I think I broke TruHart's brain with that rec. Yet the resolution in the sequel fic, while not lovely-dovey, strikes me as very romantic, though TruHart didn't see it that way.

Funny ... that reminded me of a young woman I worked with many years ago. She never wore pants--always skirts--but let it be known among her colleagues (we were a bunch of allegedly open-minded 20-somethings in San Francisco) that she always wore men's boxer shorts. It seemed strange to the rest of us ... which is why, in retrospect, the best I can say for us is that we were allegedly open-minded.

The suit is fashionable but still traditionally male; the undergarments (bikini with garters and stockings; no bra) look like they're designed for women (I don't know if they are) but aren't frilly; the bracelet is heavy and masculine.
