Well Fellas,

I'm taking my first trip to NYC after Christmas (26-30) and I was wondering if you guys would fill me in on what a boy does for fun in the big apple. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated ;)

I think you have to give us a clue as to what YOU like to do. Whatever it is, I'm positive you can find it somewhere in NYC. Broadway is still the standard for all live theatre, be it a play or musical. Clubs featuring any and every kind of music, great museums, and great restaurants, New York has them all. It also has a lot of rip off places. Be prepared to pay, but if your handle is accurate a lot of places do offer a student discount, never hurts to ask. And of course if you are looking for naked men, check out the Gaiety thread.

Well I'm sure I'll have my fair share of shopping and what not, but I do want to do some clubbing and some "gay stuff."

On Saturday night you can go to Roxy, Heaven, or Escolito's depending on what you like to see. On Sunday night, there is Avalon. If you have special tastes and "specialty" type desires, there is that kind of thing for you in NY too!

Of course, don't leave without seeing at least one Broadway or off Broadway show.

Hello Mr. T,

Going to the top of the world is always fun. Check the schedule to go to the top of the Empire State Building.

This web site has a lot of great, mainstream suggestions.

Here are some gay sources for NYC "to do" info.

Lastly, here is info on The Gaiety - all male nude burlesque.

GAIETY THEATER

New York City, New York

201 West 46th Street

(212) 221-8868

WHAT TO EXPECT: Superb all-nude male entertainment; a Manhattan landmark. The stripper circuit begins here. Once you go, you'll be pissed off that no one told you about it sooner. Dancers appear during scheduled shows that run from 1:30 pm to 10:30 pm during the week; a midnight show runs until 3 am on the weekends.

THE MEN: There are seven guys during the week and 12 for the weekend. They range from a moonlighting Mr. Canada to porn stars to lost club kids. Great mix. Very friendly. An in-house DJ cues up two songs per act--one for the striptease and the other for the dancer to show off his hard-on. Most dancers are professionals, and tips are allowed (no touching) but scarce from this cheap crowd that knows that the two hours between shows is when the guys earn their real money. I'm told some dancers can make up to $10,000 a week. The money's so good here, top-shelf talent only needs to drop in once or twice a year.

Hey College. Love your home city and come up often.

As for NYC, stay at Milford Plaza or Paramont. Both near Gaiety and other gay places. Near Time Square. If it is still playing, go see play "Take Me Out" About baseball player who comes out. Lot of nudity in shower scenes. But play besides that is powerful. Got a lot of Tony awards. Enjoy NYC:-)

NYC is NOT lacking when it comes to things to do-- gay or otherwise. Consult the gay and nongay magazines--travel as well as non, the various guides, contact the sites and the names of folks whose names have already been mentioned in previous post, search the archives at this site, go to gaynewyork.com. I could go on and on, but other posters have given you salinet information. Have a wonderful trip-- both culturally as well as sexually. As you know you'll have to dress warm- warm- warm!

I saw this play last week and I believe it is still playing through January. This is a "must see" play for a gay guy. It's very well written with a fantastic cast.

I also recommend the play "Thoroughly Modern Millie" if you like musicals. Leslie Uggams (whose got to be at least 65 years old) looks fantastic and her singing/dancing is great. Delta Burke, from Designing Women, is also in it. But, I fell in lust with one of the Chinese washer boys.

"Naked Boys Singing" is still playing in the Village and is a very fun 90 minute show. (Yes, the guys really perform in the nude and there's not a ugly one in the group.)

I also went to Ground Zero. Although there is not yet a formal memorial, it's still a very moving experience.

The Gaiety is still going strong and I was lucky enough to spend some one-on-one time with my favorite dancer. }(

I'd also recommend that you make sure your hotel is near a subway station. I was there the weekend they had a bad Nor'eastern storm. The wind and snow made it very miserable. Luckily my hotel was only a few steps from a station and I had no problem getting around. But, it was really too cold to do any major walking or sightseeing.

Realize you're coming to NYC during a very busy time. Since this is your 1st visit, I'd suggest you start out by going to the "Visitors Center" on 7th Ave between 44th/45th, nextdoor to McDonalds, and across from TKTS. Literature on all the sights, show, tours, musuems, etc. is available. Also, pick up a bus, subway, and street map. Agents are available to assist you with any questions.

Next, divide your short stay into sections of NYC. DOWNTOWN: Greenwich Village, Battery Park (Statue of Liberty), South Street Sea Port, Little Italy, Chinatown, Financial District (Trade Center). MIDTOWN: Theatre district, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Circle Line Tours, Empire State Bldg., Gaiety/Stella's. UPTOWN: Cental Park, Metropolitian Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, Lincoln Center, Guggenheim Museum, American Museum of Natural History... Touring is a lot easier if you break it up this way.

As for "Club" entertainment. Go to Stella's on 47th St. between Broadway and 8th, (closer to 8th, nextdoor to the China Club). There you can pick up a copy of "NEXT" and "HX" magazines. They have information on all the night life entertainment. There are just too many bars/clubs to mention, and, it all depends on what you are looking for.

Shopping: After you get sticker shock from visiting the stores on 5th Ave., go to Canal Street (downtown). There you can purchase designer names at discounted prices.

Walking around Times Square will be tough. Try visiting this area after midnight (it's safe) and it will be more enjoyable... The Christmas Tree, ice-skating, and the Radio City Music Hall are good sights for putting you in the holiday spirit. The store windows along 5th Ave. (from Macy's at 34th St. and going uptown) are quite an attraction.

Enjoy your fist visit to NYC. If I can be of any additional help, just drop a line.

RE: Takek Me Out

Thanks guys.

I do want to check out Roxy, I had met some guys from NYC in Montreal one time who said that if you're in NYC that's where you gotta go.

Posted

RE: Takek Me Out

Roxy is getting some competition. It has been the gay club to go to on Saturday nights, but now there is Crobar and the re-opened Twilo (but under a new name). Also, Sound Factory has gone gay on Saturday nights and features super dj Junior Vasquez until the very wee hours of the morning. After that, all the muscled latin guys come over to my place for a last minute roll.

And don't miss Avalon on Sundays. Housed in an old church where Limelight was. If you are into kink there is always The Vault.

Lucky,

Maybe you can become our Clubs reviewer helping us out-of-towners out. And please don't leave out of your reviews those muscled latino hunks that you roll. :p

What and where is the VAULT? This one I hadn't heard about. The last time I was in NY it looked like the LURE had closed, has this place taken its place? Thanks!!! }(

RE: Take Me Out

The Vault is where Taampa Yankee keeps his really hot tricks. But I know someone who knows someone whose cousin once knew where the key had been hidden.

Hook up With Fab Mr. Cooper or Yummy Mr. Lucky

Of course you need to hook with the fabulous Mr. Cooper and any other M4M Strip Club posters (such as Valley Dweller North and the very muscled in shape Mr. Lucky or Foxy) for Friday night at Gaiety Theatre and then Stellas latin hustlers bar around the corner. (BTW, Mr. Lucky is yummy and his muscles bulge under his shirt-he should sometime be encouraged in making at least a guest appearance at the Gaiety).

You definitely have to go to gay Chelsea club, Roxy Club, Saturday night say about 1-3 am for a few hours early Sunday morning. I went there early September with two popular regular Gaiety dancers and had a blast.

I did NOT pay John Pela anything to say that!!!

But I could show a nice college guy around...:)

Crobar & Soundfactory Gay?

Lucky,

Are you sure Sound Factory is gay? I was there in late July 2003 on Saturday night (actually early to mid Sunday morning for annual underwear night)and it appeared to be 60-75 straight. I believe dj Junior Vasquez was there that night.

Where is the Crobar and is it as big as Roxy Club?

I probably will be going to one of the above 3 clubs Saturday night after seeing "Cat On Hot Tin Roof".

Thanks,

John,

I had hoped to visit, but I am still trying to pay off the RIO trip. Would have loved to see NYC during the holiday season.

Maybe next year. There is no better place in this country to spend time with friends.

:D
