Ok while I'm not a rough and tumble 'ME LOVE FOOTBALL' kind of guy (I'm sure all of you are surprised by this. But I assure you it's true.). I'm also not into a lot of 'beauty care'. I've never had a facial ( please get your minds out of the gutter). Let's face it. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I've only had one manicure in my life- that was when I went to a 'special' manly men's barbershop to get what little hair I have cut. I have never had a pedicure- but I've thought about it. Oh and I did go to a Korean foot massage place once.

So what about the rest of you? Do you routinely get mani-pedis?

I think we all find different ways to pamper ourselves. I am very different than you Gman. For starters, I have zero interest in football..lol..but I do, from time to time, treat myself to facials (which I don't think do squat), but it does feel good, just don't buy all the crap they try to sell you at the end. I will also treat myself to a spa massage, though Burke Williams is not in the new hood. Getting a wet massage, followed by a regular massage, is damn near Heaven. So it's massages and facials yes, but no to pedicures and manicures.

I have done the spa thing while on vacation in Vegas and I had the full gamut. Body waxing, hair dying and styling, manicure, facial, hot rock massage, shave, haircut. It felt great. Facial was with aromatherapy. It smelled great and felt great and my face did feel a bit tingly for a day or two. On a regular basis, I do get the occasional manicure, as as a physician your hands make a statement to patient and I always keep them neat. Whenever I leave town, I try to find an old fashioned barber shop and get a shave, That will usually carry me for three days and my face feels smooth and the hot towels after are relaxing and invigorating at the same time. Never have had a pedicure.

I had my first pedicure recently, actually went with a soccer player! It was great, not only the feeling of being pampered but it made

my feet feel like brand new! definitely recommend it, will do it again!

I love getting a manicure. I try to get one every time I get my hair cut - about every 4 weeks. But, the very idea of someone working on my feet is the subject of my worst nightmare!!!

Hehe, Gman, you know I'd be all over this one. I only get them before dates because I'm not good at filing and/or painting my own nails . My nails are painted in sheer pink and my toes a deep. With the advent of cheese grater files for callouses, I can keep my feet callous free on my own; no need for them to do it.

A few pointers: First, people get serious infections in these places though they've gotten better at sterilizing over the past few years. You're best off buying your own set of tools for $20 if you go regularly. Don't let them buff your fingernails unless you want them ultra shiny. If you have callouses, go to a place that uses a foot razor; using a foot file for 10 minutes won't do much. Also, anything they use to moisturize your feet (such as paraffin masks), you can get online and do on your own.

And the result:

BVB, you are very astute. You're right; they do absolutely nothing except relax you and temporarily clean out your pores if you have oily skin.

What's a wet massage? I <3 <3 deep tissue massages. I have an incredible masseuse and she just moved her studio right near my place. I would love a house call but she doesn't do them. There's also an incredible qi gong lady nearby.

Gee, Fluff - If I were to wait and have a manicure only before a date, my nails would be 10 feet long! (Hence the reason I'm on this site in the first place.)

I thought about excluding you, Tyro, and Raven from the discussion as I felt it would be unusual if you three didn't get them at least occasionally ( yes I guess I am a male chauvinist pig). On the other hand, I decided that you three might have something valuable to contribute as y'all presumably had experience. And your post has definitively given us useful insights. Thank you.

A wet massage is done in a "wet room". You lay on a traditional massage table covered with warm towels, as they scrub your body with wheat stalks, soaked with "exotic" oils, while warm water flows over you from above. I follow that with a steam and a dip in the hot tub, then go have a traditional massage. If you ever feel a need to pamper yourself, I highly recommend. :D

For those who want to do their own hoof maintenance on callouses (between or in place of pedicures), these are awesome:

At about $8-10, the price is right. The XL one has replaceable blades and the shavings are collected in a pocket.

But what if you don't want shavings in your pocket? ;)

(Sorry, I couldn't resist!!)

How do you like it? I remember that you were one of the few who were pro-coloring on that thread a few months ago.

I get Pedicure and massages regularly. Just got a massage tomorow the pedi massages about montly 6 weeks for pedi if you dont get them , u dont get it just like the NY Times

I get pedicures about once every 4-6 weeks. I go to a nice local spa and get it done with a green tea treatment and foot massage. I've yet to run into an infection issue, so I'll keep my fingers crossed, Fluff. :) I have wondered about getting facials. My hair stylist was trying to convince me to get one last time I was getting the mane trimmed. Is there really no other effect than relaxing you?

If you have clogged pores, they can clear them out, though you'll need the right skincare to keep them clear. That's really what facials are best for. And you can get a temporary glow from them. Other than that, it's pure relaxation.

If you want to change your skin you're better off spending the money on strong Rx skincare or a dermatologist. Also, since stress is linked with acne, so buying one of these might help calm you down. :D

I'm all confused- which is not unusual-Fresh. I thought your avatar was a cat. But then this picture you posted looks a lot like your avatar, but looks more like a dog to me. Can you (if you'll pardon the expression) set me straight?

It's a white Pomeranian. My avatar is a white Persian kitten. Both are about almost entirely fluff, so they look alike.

You find the cutest pictures! I wish I could invite a little flufft darling into my home, but alas, tis not allowed. As for the facials, I've been blessed with good skin so no breakouts or anything like that. I was more interested in the anti-aging/preventive side of things that some facials advertise. Pure snake oil, I imagine. :/
