David Gest is claiming, in his lawsuit, that Liza regularly beat him during their 16 month marriage. From the Smoking Gun website: "According to Gest, whose lawsuit seeks $10 million in damages, he became a 'victim of domestic violence' who, as a result of Minnelli's beatings, now lives in 'virtually constant, unrelenting pain' that requires '11 prescription medications per day, some more than once.'" I recently saw Intolerable Cruelty, it wasn't as funny as I'd hoped, but had a couple moments. I mention it because this sounds exactly like the kind of gold-digging portrayed in that movie.

Any one sure that what happened was poor David got hit by that famous Liza armjerking motion?

Clang, Clang, Clang Goes the Trolley!

She must have a good punch since it looks like he has been dead for years. He should stop having the Frank Campbell Funeral Home do his make up and try a little Max Factor.

Maybe he just wants the money and not a have to put up with Liza and the girls.

Liza is scheduled to perform at an Actors' Fund benefit for Kander and Ebb in LA on Saturday night. I imagine her lawyer will insist that she appear, even if Liza has to crawl on stage. Can you image the audience response if she walks on stage with boxing gloves on.

The audience will already be on her side anyone. In fact, is there anyone who does not think that Gest is a litigious idiot? I am glad that Sid Luft is still alive to witness all this. He seems like a saint in comparison to Gest.

What, pray tell, does Sid Luft have to do with any of this? Except, perhaps that he is (was?) Liza's stepfather. God knows he put up with enough of the same behavior from the Mother (Ms. Garland aka Frances Gumm), so it's not like he should be real surprised at Liza's condition. Does anyone hear stories of similar dysfunctional behavior by either Lorna or Joey Luft?

I think that Liza has looked like kind of a bruiser lately. She now has that "I used to be a tool belt wearing diesel dike but now am discovering the joys of being a lipstick lesbian". I can definately see her bitch slapping David around.

(But can any tool belt wearin lesbian ever retire their belt? Something to ponder.)

Nothing as far as the current "ludicrous" charges by Gest against Minnelli. Similar in that Sid Luft pulled Judy's career out of the toilet and got her back on her feet after she had spiraled to the bottom as an unemployable actress and a drunken, pill popping overweight has been. Although I credit Gest with getting Liza sober, slim and functional (even a new album) he just isn't as talented as Luft despite his self-delusions of grandeur. I believe Luft is responsible for one of the most magnificent comebacks in show biz history with Judy's concert at the London Palladium and culminating in an Oscar nominated performance in "A Star Is Born".

>Does anyone hear stories of similar dysfunctional behavior by either Lorna or Joey Luft?

WHO??? And that's the point. Lorna has a modicum of talent that never would have been given a chance to be heard if she was not Judy's daughter and Liza's sister and despite all the help from Liza, she just didn't have enough.

Why would they be even remotely as dsyfunctional as Liza, as Liza is older and went thru much more than either one of them? Poor Liza, carrying all the baggage of her inheritence and childhood compounded with being as talented as her mother and still being able to carve her own unique niche in show biz history.

A true case of "like mother, like daughter". BAD choice in men, many downs but always resilient enough to bounce back for another try! No wonder gay men love 'em both! :)

Lorna---talent? I doubt it. Check her out in "Where the Boys Are 1984". At least she's managed to disappear. Whereas we know all too much about Liza and her string of not so staright husbands (I just read a review of the new bioplay about Peter Allen and can't get his tone deaf singing out of my ears).

My guess is that this is a matter of two people who deserve each other. She's a has been and he's a gold digger. And, frankly, neither seems straight. Given their opulent life style, I can't imagine there's much money to go after, but he probably knows the hiding places.

Well I did say a "modicum of talent" but that was only because I was "trying" to be kind. They made a remake of "Where the Boys Are"? WHY??? Wasn't the original bad enough? The only thing I can recall that was worthy in the original was the singing of Connie Francis so thanks, but no thanks, I'll pass on the 1984 version.

In its own way, the remake is a camp classic. I don't know that I'd credit Lorna with having a modicum of talent, at least she seems to have a modicum of sense.

A great client, after taking Jim (btmstud) and me to dinner at my favorite restaurant (Craft), had tickets for the three of us to see the first performance of Taboo tonight. When he found out that the show's been pushed back a week, he quickly got last-minute tickets to The Boy From Oz. When the "Liza" character walked on stage, I was waiting for her to comment about David's allegations...but then I remembered that this was just a play, not real life (hey, I'd had a drink at dinner because they make amazing cosmos at Craft, and you know I'm a real lightweight with chemicals). :+

Don't you just love Deborah Harry? Man, Blondie is GREAT and imo, one of the pioneers of rap music on the song Rapture. What song(s) did Lorna sing backup on? May the tides always be high and the grass always green. :)

Totally plausable. Think about it: if you were drunk out of your mind, and turned around and saw someone as spooky as Gest standing in your hotel room, wouldn't YOU beat the crap out of him?

The defense rests, your Honor.
