Put aside any uneducated misinfo you have about pits! Leave the nasty comments to yourself! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=779929585353256&set=a.617938651552351.1073741868.152876678058553&type=3&permPage=1

He dies on 4/7/14 if he doesn't get adopted!

Hugs,

Greg

Heart wrenching....and no nasty comments here. I am a big fan of "Pit bulls and Parolees" animal planet. Thanks for posting Seaboy. I wish I knew of someone who could help....Good luck.

Are you familiar with this dog? Is he good with other dogs? I have three rescues and unfortunately you can not save them all but someone can save this one.

Unfort I am not familiar with the dog. A lot of the info on his training is listed on the Facebook page though. He's located in NYC and I am in Chicago. I'm a big supporter of rescued critters. My newest cat I drove from Chicago out to the burbs of Detroit to rescue. Turns out that he had been in the shelter for four months. He was hard to adopt out since he has to take medicine twice daily. But back to the topic at hand, this adorable pitty!

I'm Curious: What medication is he on, and what for?

The latest comments on the page say the dog has been adopted. In fact, the lady who was supposed to adopt him posted and said that, at the last minute, the shelter changed its mind and gave him to a different family.

But here's the facebook page for Dogs on Death Row, where you can find other dogs who have less than one day to live. :(

Edit: Here is the correct URL for Dogs on Death Row

Such good news for this guy. What a shame there are so many more facing the same fate. My little buddy is a rescue dog and I do what I can physically and financially to help out the shelter where I was fortunate enough to find him. It is true that certain breeds get a very bad rap, but people should put that aside and realize that love and proper training are all that is needed to make any breed a loving and caring sidekick.

Glad indeed that Raas was rescued. Excellent post, and perhaps it will bring some much needed attention to this horrific problem. One only needs to read further on the link provided and you can see how extensive this problem is.

I travel too much and don't have the temperament for a dog, so it's probably a good thing this lil dude is in Ohio. I would have been so tempted. Of course, he's already been taken home by a lucky family.)

I'm going to use this thread to plug my own plea for rescue - retired Greyhound racers. These dogs are used for 4 years and after that they either get adopted or put down. I have owned two of these dogs and they are the most amazing animals you can imagine. They are quiet (don't bark), short hair and no undercoat so not much shedding, and the gentlest dogs you can imagine. I'm not going to debate whether racing is abusive, but Florida is finally starting to release death statistics on the tracks there and the results speak for themselves. A Greyhound reaches speeds of over 40mph when racing. If they run into each other they can easily break a limb which will make them no longer suitable for racing - and since they're in a for profit business it's cheaper if they just put them down. They're not for everyone, but if you want a larger dog with very few genetic defects and a gentle disposition (these would create a problem for the race tracks so they are pretty ruthless in weeding them out) at least consider giving one of these great dogs a try. Just about every state has one or more greyhound adopting site that helps match you up with a dog.

I have owned Greyhounds, and agree they can be really lovable pets, but anyone who is interested in adopting one needs to be aware that they do need plenty of physical exercise to stay in good shape. Too many people are attracted by their aesthetic appeal and gentle temperament, without realizing that they are not ideal for city life or apartment life, since unlike many small dogs, they can't exercise themselves just by running around in the house, and just lying about is not good for their health. Even someone with an outdoor area for exercise has to be aware that they can easily leap a fence if they want to. Racing hounds also like to chase smaller animals, like your neighbor's cats. Luckily, the reputable Greyhound rescue groups will usually vet potential adopters for such issues.
