I thought I'd start another thread rather than hijack the one about the national anthem.

What did you all think about the commercials?

I was actually disappointed. While a few of them were funny (Doritos time machine and Tebow's among them), and a few of them were moving (like the puppy and horse), I didn't find any of them to be exceptionally memorable.

I was also disappointed that I had already seen the vast majority of them either on talk shows or online.

Nothing laugh our loud funny nor sobbing into my beer melancholy. Loved the puppy horse commercial though and the Coke singing was moving but hard to believe that it is considered controversial

As I noted in the National Anthem thread, the best commercials in my estimation both had hot guys... The Tebow T-Mobile commercials and the Stamos Greek yogurt spot... The Budweiser commercials attempt to touch the heart, but the concept is getting old... In summation, while not taking anything away from the Seahawks, the whole evening was really not fun or exciting to watch.

The Doritos commercial was really funny, as was the Stamos yogurt commercial. I also thought that Chevy Silverado ad was funny. The Go Daddy one was both funny and sexy.

I loved the 'Go Daddy' commercial also...talk about getting your attention. ;)

I was saddened by the vicious responses to the Coca-Cola commercial. There was an article on this in today's NY Times (p. 5, Business section), and it was also covered on "The Daily Show" last night. We still have a long way to go in America, unfortunately.

How about that "Nationwide" commercial, huh?

Aside from the odd tone of it in context, I have 2 other beefs. First, they claim it wasn't to sell insurance, rather "to start a dialogue." Yet, there was nothing in the ad that overtly, pointedly tried to say "let's start a dialogue about child safety" - did they just somehow assume we would intuitively pick up on that intention? (Or, more likely, are they just bullshitting us?)

And - to end a serious-minded spot like that with a grammatically wrong, quasi-hip slogan ("Make safe happen") just cheapens and trivializes any real intentions they might have had.
