Hey all,

 

I will be in Columbus (Ohio,natch) the last week of the month. What things would you suggest to do or see while in the city. Clubs or bars or strip clubs worth checking out? Cultural or other sights worth seeing?

 

Now I'm asking advice on WHAT to do, not who to do, but what the hell send suggestions about that as well.

You already know my thoughts on this, but seems to me the only site of interest in Ohio would be the original Jeff (ohio natch) in a supine postion, legs raised, and a combined look of terror and delight. Ok, I'll go back to bed to do my dreaming.

Don't miss seeing Rich Roberts. He's a fantastic guy--warm, cute, articulate and absolutely loves sex. He and I had a fantstic overnight together in NYC (review has been sent in). I am sure he'd be a great guy to show you the city. Have fun!

Rich Roberts is located in the Cleveland/Akron area over 2 hours from Columbus.

Well, there's more to do here than most would think. German Village is just south of downtown and is the largest privately funded restored neighborhood in the country. Lots of old brick homes, brick streets and some great restaurants. The Short North is the most gay area of town just north of downtown with several blocks of shops, restaurants/bars/nightclubs and galleries. Wexner Center for the Arts is one of the nicest facilities in the country located at Ohio State.

Easton is a pet project of Les Wexner(The Limited founder)with great shopping(Nordstrom, Lazarus and many exclusive shops/restaurants in a charming outdoor setting).

 

Hotel-wise, my favorites are The Lofts, The Westin/Great Southern, Hampton Inn/Downtown and believe it or not, The Red Roof Inn/Downtown.

 

I hope you enjoy yourself!

The Lofts was recently written up in USA Today as one of the most unique hotels in the country. A NYC loft-apt./style hotel located in a late 1800's warehouse, it's next to and operated by The Crowne Plaza. Columbus is and has been a favored test market for new concepts and products for over 20 years now. We see alot of new things here before they ever make it to anywhere else in the country(including Jersey). The Hampton Inn Downtown and the Red Roof Inn Downtown are both new concepts for their chains designed to compete with boutique hotels. The Westin Great Southern Hotel is an over 100 year-old hotel that has been completely restored, including the gorgeous Southern Theater.

 

There are numerous gay-owned bars, dance clubs, shops, nationally recognized art galleries and restaurants in the downtown and Short North area.

 

Columbus is headquarters for many companies, including The Limited, Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria's Secret, Wendy's, Bob Evans and is home to The Ohio State University, one of the largest in the country with over 50,000 students on the main campus alone.

 

Columbus is the largest city in Ohio with a population of nearly 800,000 and has the largest gay community in the state. There's plenty to see and do.

Thanks SoccerStud. I had a great time with you too in New York. I am headed back there again tomorrow. Must have something to do with living in Cleveland (just kidding).

 

Unfortunately, Jeff is right. Cleveland is 2.5 hours away from Columbus (with no traffic, on a weekend, late night, and no construction). Since it is summer (also known as "Orange Barrel Season") in Ohio, there is a lot of traffic, a lot of construction, and often severe weather. Thus, it would take more like 3 hours. I think the gay scene is bigger in Columbus. But if the poster of the question gets tired of Columbus, indeed it would be my pleasure to give him the "VIP" tour of Cleveland. Oh, and I do love sex. That was spot on!

Jeff, there's no point in arguing with a pretentious but provincial idiot like what's-his-name in New Jersey. Only people who are so insecure that they have to rattle off the names of world-class hotels dump on a place that's an automatic target for people. S/he reminds me of that escort who always made such a fuss about traveling first class. Can you imagine what s/he would have written if Jeff had said that he was going to Birmingham or Jackson or, for chrissake, Grand Rapids?

 

By the way, I've been to those hotels he so loftily names, and I can tell you from experience that any one of them would be all the brighter for having you to grace one of their best suites.

The FACTS are that AT THAT TIME, I had just paid off a lease on a second business location and I was cash-poor that month, as I stated at that time, but the TRUTH never fits into your smear campaigns, does it? I WAS at that moment CASH-POOR, but I had several thousand invested in my business and even more in the bank, money market accts. etc., out of which I'd rather NOT have made a withdrawal.

Jeff, I love and admire you and am sorry that I thought that with everyone else wishing you Happy Birthday it would be redundant and selfish of me to do so, too. However, while I also think quite highly - am agog, really - that you can eat out at restaurants every day and keep your figure as well as you do (that they aren't fast food restaurants probably helps), I hope you're eating one or two meals at home each day, too? Don't forget, there are many comforting foods - cereal, grahame crackers, and any form of peanut butter - which are just not the same when they are eaten out. ;-)

Hey Bilbo, thanks for the birthday wishes!

 

I usually eat breakfast at home, but lunch and dinner out. I work out 3 times a week and Rollerblade an hour at least twice a week. I'm 6'1" and hover around 185-190lbs., although last winter while on a new med (Zyprexa) for the bipolar thing, I got up to 200lbs.. I love blading, but some days I have to force myself to workout. There are some things that I don't eat much of any more and I stick to an Atkins-like diet, high in protein that seems to work well for me.
