I couldn't have said it better myself. I don't always agree with Rick but I do respect his well-developed sarcastic wit. I'm amazed that someone would value themselves by the number of cyber-"friends" they have collected. Now that is laughable.

Sarcasm usually has a target, and it seldom seems as funny to the target as it does to the audience - especially when the author & the object of the remarks aren't friends.

Not everyone's skin is equally thick, and most of us have greater sensitivity around some topics.

rick as a word smith is appreciated here. this is a message board where words are only what we have

get togethers aren't what I personally appreciate. I don't need to meet folks off line or make a big deal about some event that 20 people attended

rick is a long time contributor. he's part of this sites history. I grow weary of those wanting self importance by stating their many 'accolades'

It's been said many times that the first seven-eight years of the site were often very contentious. Rick survived, with his good humor in place.

I agree with jimboivyo about the Palm Springs and Washington get togethers. I prefer to meet people on this site in small groups of two or three. I made a decision when the Palm Springs weekends started several years ago that I would rather spend money on other things, just a personal choice.

Congratulations (I guess) to leigh.bess.toad for all his accomplishments. I am glad he's helped people.here. But, it is very unusually (and a bit strange) for someone to list his/her own accomplishments on an Internet site. As for the friends feature here, I am not sure how that differs from Facebook. Some people are content with 40-50 Facebook true friends, others have 1,500 friends. Does anyone make a judgment about someone based on his/her number of Facebook friends? I sure hope not.

Your point is well made...

Yeah, I was posting here when it was just a cork board on the wall in one of Hooboy's many hotel rooms! Back then, we wrote our posts on a Post-it note. :p

+1 I couldn't have said it better myself. I don't always agree with Rick but I do respect his well-developed sarcastic wit.

Thanks; I actually think life would be boring if we all always agreed, esp. when disagreeing with humor is so much fun.

I'm amazed that someone would value themselves by the number of cyber-"friends" they have collected. Now that is laughable.

I thought that was rather odd, too. I've really never heard of anyone on Facebook boasting of their friend count. If anything, I constantly see people complain that they have too many and so they're going to spend the evening "culling" and unfriending.

It's been said many times that the first seven-eight years of the site were often very contentious. Rick survived, with his good humor in place.

They were contentious, but also quite enjoyable with a rowdy crowd of smart men who all wanted to have the last word. It was a bit insane but pretty entertaining. I found that it was always best never to take anyone (including myself) too seriously.

How nice to post an ignorant homophobic attack on a gay message board. Way to go, Draker.

Thanks for proving my point. Your Yahoo question & answer says: "What does "this thread is gay" mean???" "It means that the message"thread",(postings) on message boards are stupid pointless etc, hence the description"gay". (According to an anonymous Yahoo user named "moebiusfox," whom you apparently feel is some sort of expert on the topic.)

Well, you really got me there, Draker. "Gay = stupid." Nice. Why don't you go bully some gay kids now?

Miss Monroe?

take it back like a man ! ;)

Once again, you reveal that you have issues with masculinity. You might want to deal with that on your own, though, because I am no therapist. Good luck to you!

The Yahoo Answers has an important part (you omitted) that says: "It's a quick way to let others know that they shouldn't waste their time to read through though,so use it!"

you have issues with masculinity

I have no problem with you acting like a (little) girl. I can live with that. :-)

Hey Draker, What the fuck is your obsession with my man? Give me your answer right here or else shut the fuck up.

btw, your knowledge of "That's so gay" is inherently ignorant and foul.

I don't totally understand this feud but what I do know is Rick's longtime REAL defense of GAY RIGHTS on this Forum. That is why I chose to include him as a friend on the Forum. He tells it like it is with a deep and profound knowledge and commitment to gay rights. If people do not understand his wit, so be it, but give credit where credit is do

I don't understand it either. I'm sure it's as boring and tiresome to the rest of the board as it is to me! And thanks very much for the credit and your friendship. :)

I sincerely RESENT the turn this thread has taken. Oliver works his ass off to create an interesting and a fun weekend in Palm Springs for site participants and their guest and then he has to read this FUCKING BULL SHIT. Guys knock it off!!!!!

Me too.

But there's more, I think a joke is only a successful joke if the target can appreciate the joke as well. If your target doesn't appreciate your joke, then apparently you weren't funny. Accept it, move on and try to do better next time. (That is, if you really feel the urge to be "funny".) What surprises me even more is that Steven made a cynical joke back to Rick and look what happens.

Aarian.

Ladies ladies, Please.....I think both you gentlemen should apologize to the original OP for derailing what was intended as a rather nice "thank you" to all those that were at the PS weekend.......... No hate mail please, just my humble opinion.

Take it outside. Nobody's hands are clean in this fight. Stop now, while the only thing you've hurt is your own reputations.

looked back to see where exactly this thread took a wrong turn....

check out post #3 and the author of it.....

You mean he's going to drop dead from the shock of finding out how many escorts you've slept with? :p

I went back to look what's post #3 is all about and frankly I'm not surprised ... at all. The "offender" is now trying to get sympathies and turn into a victim.

Ladies ladies ...

What he said. Over and out.

Wow, so when Bill Maher or Jon Stewart make jokes about Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann or John Boehner or Rush Limbaugh, etc., if the targets don't appreciate the joke as well, then they weren't funny? I guess someone should explain that to the viewing and studio audiences and tell them to stop laughing!

The "offender" is now trying to get sympathies and turn into a victim.

Actually, the "offender" was the person making sophomoric homophobic jokes and I was explaining why it's offensive.
