Has anyone had to deal with being blocked from sending or receiving AOL mail?

Today, yhey've decided to hate me for some sudden reason, and although I can get mail from them, I can't reply to it without it being instantly blocked. I created a workaround address (theresamaninmybed@aol.com) and POP forwarding to use the Gmail server, but it's also been blocked at times.

yes happened to me twice, first time they said i was spamming people, i had sent out a group e mail to 20 people, i had to call them to get it re started....

second time someone had sent me an off color joke, and they blocked me again... so it proved to me that they read my e mails...

i got rid of AOL as fast as i could,

get rid of them, i am so glad i did...

Unfortunately I can't get rid of them in that some of my clients use them.

Does AOL disallow its users sending and receiving email to/from gmail accounts?

No, but AOL users can block non-AOL email addresses. (This used to be the default setting, although I *thought* they changed the default some years ago.) It doesn't usually do any good to explain to AOL users that they need to "open the door" because they think it's voodoo or something.

Friends don't let friends use AOL.

It has been a long time since I last used AOL. Thanks for jogging my memory about the default setting that blocked non-AOL addresses. Agreed on the warning about letting friends use AOHell. I'm amazed anyone uses them any more.

I'm wondering if my signature (which contains links to escort-related sites) has triggered the alarms at moral ol' AOL.

That could be. Maybe you could offer a 15-minute extension to AOL users who change their email settings or switch to another provider. ;)

This used to be a really common complaint around here.

AOL never restricted *sending* to a non-AOL account, but if incoming replies were blocked people would think they were just being ignored and you can imagine the threads we used to see. "So and so won't answer emails", yet, "so and so" had in fact answered and it landed in the AOL bit bucket. AOL users never seemed to understand what was really happening.

I got a message from aol saying my account was associated with spam. The same day I got a suspicious email on my AT&T account from my aol address with one of those links I associate with spam. A friend explained that my aol password had probably been hacked. I changed my password and the problem was resolved. The same friend advised that I should change all my passwords every 6 months.

Changing passwords is always a good idea. I use my AOL account for shopping etc. so that all the junk mail that follows doesn't get to my gmail account. Periodically the AOL account has problems. I've found that deleting reinstalling the program resolves whatever the issue was. I've had to do that about once a year for the last three or four years.

AOL used to be my main email- and I still use it occasionally. I never noticed a setting for rejection of non-AOL mail and no one ever really complained of not being able to get through to me. Then a few years ago- I would see that Dave from Man to Man Escorts would post that he had sent a new newsletter- and I wouldn't receive it. AOL had put him on some kind of spam list or something. So I changed to a gmail account and almost never use my AOL nowadays.

UPDATE: I went through the process of sending the source code for an email to "Nascita" on AOL's magic team, and they wrote back and "lifted a ban on www.daddysreviews.com."

So apparently now I can send mail to AOL clients again... at least I just tried and it didn't bounce back immediately like they have been doing.
