I was thinking about having a facial. I have heard that it is good for the skin..Has anyone here had one and if you live in NYC could you reccommend a place where I would feel comfortable going.

My ex has a 3 small blemishes on his face from acne and wanted to know if anyone here knows of any safe meds that they have tried and were successful at removing or minimizing them on his face..

Thanxs

Not sure if I should mention specific brands, but here goes.

I have Rosacea, a skin condition that resembles acne. The breakouts would last for months, heal and then start all over. I've had very good results from Alpha Hydrox Foaming Face Wash and Alpha Hydrox Enhanced cream. Wash your face twice a day with the face wash, then apply a small amount of the enhanced cream.

Took about a month for my face to completely clear up, but I have not had a breakout since I started using these products 2 years ago.

Hope this helps.

] I was introduced to both the facials Rick speaks of as well as the less creamy but more moisturizing type from Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salons in SF by the same long time friend }(

I have tried facials all over since then including at the Balagio spa in LV and the Red Door is by far the best I've had, barring the more creamy, intimate ones I spoke of earlier :9

They have the Red Door Salons all over, but I can only speak to the one on Post Street in SF--check out the web page

http://www.reddoorsalon.com/ They list several in NYC :+

Thanxs guys for your helpfull responses thus far..

Every once in a while I notice some guys faces look really shiny and plastic..I wonder if this is a facial gone bad or what they call a "chemical peel"(sp) Is that healthy?

Over a decade ago- I would regularly have facials performed by one of SF's leading facialist (...can't remember the exact title). The facials left my face feeling oh so clean and refreshed. After the facials had been performed, I'd use the best feeling cleanser and moisturizer which he prescribed for my particular skin type; this regimen also cut down on visible facial aging...:-) :-)

Alpha Hydrox

Nutragena makes a whole line of products as well. The one thing about Alpha Hydrox is that the actual beneficial amount can vary from person to person. It is a product which in certain quanities can have very harsh versus positive results.

For example, as someone with Olive skin, I tend to also have a certain amount of natural oil. I often just wash my face repeatedly with warm water (after washing and rinsing my hands with Dr. Bonner's soap). However, to minimize clogging, any other kind of facial problems, I use several scrubs. Apricot would likely be very harsh to use daily for your friend. Australian Organics (Net, not com) makes aromatherpy body care scrubs with oils and mild acids (as well as a number of organic products) that are good for other skins, but which I use once a week. Provence Sante (http://www.baudelairesoaps.com) make a green tea facial scrub for me that I use in the evenings when I am interested in using something with a nice aroma to it (as I do not use colognes or aftershave) and it is very mild. It may work well for your friend.

There are also several other products, including foaming body washes, with apricot kernal oils or walnut shells. In your friend's case, the best solution might be to visit a bath and body shop or a natural food store with a good body care section, and ask a lot of question. A decent store will have well stocked sections and informed staff that can do an analysis of your friend's skins and make suggestions. Your friend should not run out and spend a lot of cash on every suggestion made, but try different places especially those with testers, and see how the products may react on him before he spends his money. If the store has no testers, I would simply walk out.

Wish him luck!

Godiva - While I haven't had a friend go in for plastic surgery in a couple of decades that I know of, this sounds very similar to what it looked like for a couple of weeks afterwards. Have you ruled this out?

Godiva,

Many drug stores carry AlphaHydrox products. No Rx necessary. Franco is correct that the enhancing cream can be a little harsh for some people. The cream stings a bit when you first put it on; however, the Foaming Face Wash is very mild. Also, a small amount goes a very long way. Wash your hands after applying the cream. You don't want to get it in your eyes. Stings like the devil.
