Very happy to report I had a long conversation with Stephen from Maximum yesterday -- and it's easy to see why he is so popular on this site, and why he will be so sorely missed. What a smart, honest and genuinely nice guy!

 

It was also very encouraging to hear that he and I have such similar views on how to run an agency, and Stephen also was generous in sharing some tips on getting through these lean times --which were greatly appreciated, and which I will take to heart.

 

Stephen and I are in the midst of working out an arrangement in which I represent some of Maximum's best guys--who prefer to work with a reputable agency rather than go the "Rentboy" etc. route. Hopefully this will help fill the void left by Stephen's decision to move on. Stay tuned for more details, guys!

I'm glad you and Stephen seem to be able to work things out, because as the only other option I know in the area--Premier--well I'm not saying all the guys listed there are awful. But they can't hold a candle to the guys at Maximum or to yours at Man to Man.

The $250 Rate most FreeLancers Advertise NOW will always attract more Biz than the Agency Fees with a 170/130 Split?

 

I am not so sure the price differential was the big deal. I mean, what's the difference between $250 and $300? What I never understood about Maximum's business model is this: quite a few of their guys were also advertising solo, or freelance if you will, on the various escort sites. In other words, why would I pay a premium to Maximum if I can get the same guy through adam4adam for a lower fee?

 

For instance, the escort known here as 'Bryan #3 - New York City' could be hired through maximum, but also through adam4adam ...

I used Maximum to hire ( Bryan #3 among others) rather than direct because it was easier with less telephone tag and leaving messages. Plus both Stephen and Dave know what I like and would often steer me away from an escort with a great description and pictures if they knew it would not be a match. Also, both would in almost all cases send out a face picture where none would appear in he agency ad or the escort's Rentboy, direct ad; both men know that I hire regularly ( being a slut) and not just a picture collector; both men would be discrete about it but tell me a little more personal information about the escorts.

 

Finally, the very best escorts on their sites are exclusive and do not advertise individually. These men would not deal direct and only go through the agency. These escorts are very loyal. I am thinking of Greg at Man2Man and Ross at Maximum.

Yes, I totally agree with that. There IS a high level of service that you wouldn't otherwise have. I have had very good experiences with Dave and his guy Greg. My point was more the following: once a good session has been had with an escort through the introduction of the agency, for the follow up session you need to decide to go through the agency or direct (if and only if the escort has a solo ad). I think that's where the agency's business model becomes complicated. If I ran an agency, I would insist on total exclusivity, no solo ads permitted.

Dave runs a first class operation and should be praised for keeping it going this long. Times change, but running a business like this is not very different than it was a decade ago. Some people enjoy the customer service - others want direct contact. What BigJoey said about hiring Bryan #3 is honorable; unfortunately more people didn't feel the same way otherwise Maximum might still be in business. But I cannot blame anyone for hiring someone for less money when they see them advertised independently - I would probably do the same. The real problem comes when I exclusively offer new people like Brando and Dylan and Mitch and the base of regular clients does not respond. That was our death knell. But regardless of all that Dave is moving forward and you will see a few of your favorite Maximum guys with him very soon.

Another thing Maximum needs to be commended for is the quality of their website and photos, made it which made it easy to judge a hire despite not seeing a face pic. For a while, I considered their site the height of internet escort photography, because it was highly composed yet natural enough that you didn't feel you were getting a false image of the escort. Also, their retouching skills were damn good - the tattoo removal on some of these escorts (to avoid identifying them offline/elsewhere) was extremely polished! Of course, it's almost a requirement that escorts have some sort of Rick Day photoset in their ads, which isn't the best thing because we all know how these may be unrealistically retouched to represent an ideal...
