Kjun just mentioned in his Marc Dylan post that he wouldn't pay 400 for an escort. I agree. When I think that when I started this little hobby 10 years ago, 150 was an average price. And often for 2 hours, the escort would often offer you a discount without any bargaining to 200- 250. Now prices are routinely 200 or above for even one hour. I know there are a few lucky clients who probably have some favorites who only charge them what they did the 1st time. But I'm not in that boat. I think theses new raised prices are the worst for those of us who have been hiring the longest. Obviously the new guys hiring have no other basis for comparison. I wonder if that's the natural cycle of hiring- eventually old time hirers stop hiring because they get priced out of the game. I mean the prices can't be hurting the escorts that much or they wouldn't be advertising those rates.

I think it greatly depends on finances. Not everyone gets priced out of the game. Like it or not, that is the reality. Another reality is that there are many members right here on the forum who will tell stories of not only hiring, but multiple escorts at a time. I do not expect anything in my life to remain the same price from 10 years ago. If you feel that it is no longer cost effective for you to hire, then that is certainly your prerogative, and no one should fault you for that. Ten years ago I was hiring guys out of "The Numbers" in LA, an upscale bar/restaurant, for about 300 dollars for an overnight, sometimes less. Now it seems about 300 for an hour. Most everything in life has gone up.

Costs rise for the escort as well, in clothing, travel, airfare, hotel, personal housing, food, gas, gym memberships, cell phones, advertising, internet access, et cetera. I think that it is unfair to blame an escort for raising prices. If he feels that his services command that price, and as long as the phone is still ringing, then he is charging what the market will bear.

Remember it is your choice as to whether or not you want to hire him. If the price is too steep, then simply look else where. AS an example there are dozens of very capable SUV's on the market, many in the 17-25K price range...OR you can buy a Mercedes SUV for somewhere in the 80k dollar plus range that will basically do the samething. Your choice, your money, but regardless Mercedes is going to sell that 80k dollar car to someone, if not you, they will sell it to someone, because there is always someone out there that can afford that 80k dollar car, and feel that the price more than matches the value.

The escorts who have built a loyal clientele are doing just fine, so are some of the escorts that cater to special niche markets. From what I hear and see other escorts that routinely list the 200+ rates for an hour find themselves either bartering with every potential client (somethng that sites like Men4Rentnow.com that don't let them list rates at all promote) or are in serious trouble. I base this on the increase in unsolicited contacts and/or requests for advances or help from escorts I have seen in the past combined with the communication I get from others I am interested in seeing for the first time. These typically go like this [me] "I saw your ad on ___ what are your rates?", [escort]"My rates are $XXX", [me] "I appreciate your reply, no thank you", [escort] "How about 1/2 $XXX?"

same subject, different week. this is discussed over and over again. we get nowhere other than realizing some here can afford higher rates and some can not. that's life. do you also go into a mercedes dealership and tell the manager you don't like the price of his luxury car and want it for 50% off? No, because that's not common sense.

as a favorite escort of mine says 'you don't go to the flea market to buy prada.' sometimes you find a great guy who is less expensive than usual, but it's rare. you do get what you pay for in life if you do your research and be a smart shopper

It will be interesting to see what the "Fiscal Cliff" does should we go over it. The taxes will go up on everyone and take away money that could be spent on escorts; it is not just income taxes that are going up but the Social Security tax "holiday" will end and the AMT will hit plus the government spending cuts will take a toll on jobs ( the CBO estimates three million plus will lose jobs). Many on the left like Krugman actually want us to go over the cliff as does Howard Dean.

Not only will this cut many people's spending on escorts but the supply may increase as young men need money. If this happens, it will be interesting to see the forces of supply and demand on escort rates.

I have hired escorts from a variety of price ranges, and except for those charging low rates for fast cash to meet pressing needs (which can be easily filtered and avoided), I have been blown away many times by guys who are charging lower rates. They often provide a service on par or superior to the higher-priced providers. There are many reasons why their fees are lower, which have nothing to do with drugs or desperation. Shop around. You have to get off the beaten path. These are escorts who are outside the domain of Daddys, but taking some chances has produced some unbelievable encounters in the past few years.

You are making a lot of assumptions here. Most of which are nonsensical. There are many of us who live in such a way that an increase in taxes or a down turn in the economy would not curtail hiring. I have never nor would I ever live in such a way or think in those terms. People have no business hiring boys if their financial house is not in order. Those that do, run the risk, it is a simple as that.

No way to know, of course, and no disrespect intended, but from what I've read here, you're not a typical client. I was laid off last year and it definitely impacted the frequency with which I hire. I know of others here and on the other board who have had to adapt to reduced income. Hiring falls under the 'entertianment' part of my budget, and that category has been reduced.

When you say “prices are routinely 200 or above for even one hour”, don’t you really mean that’s the price you routinely pay? If you’re limiting yourself to finding escorts only on Rentboy, M4RN, Rentmen, etc, keep in mind there are other ways to locate hot guys that will play for a LOT LESS $ if you think outside the box.

I am actually not arguing your point. I agree with you. Many many have curtailed hiring in the the down turn in the economy, I totally understand that, and it is the prudent thing to do. I have several friends who are operating on a 50% cut in salary. There aren't any easy answers. Bigjoey's point, as I understood it, was that this was or will be the norm, if we go over the "fiscal cliff" and I just don't believe that. We have been in a severe recession for a number of years now, and I rarely if ever hear an escort complain about the lack of business, nor do I hear very often members talk about they can no longer afford to hire. Does it happen, absolutely, but you would be hard pressed to convince me that it will suddenly be the norm for the industry, simply because of the "fiscal cliff"

My point was that the balance between supply and demand will change if we go off the "cliff." Like Seeker630, I have cut back my hiring due to the "economic storm" that will follow going off the cliff. If you check, I have many reviews going back well over a decade from regular hiring and it is no long the type of thing that is affordable in the volume that it was.

In addition to clients hiring fewer escorts and/or for shorter hours, more escorts come into the market during poor economic times. Sometimes it is to pay off student loans or due to the loss of a job. Recently, some "old" timers have come back after years of being "retired" like Jeff Stryker. More escorts means more supply.

My view was that should the "cliff" actually happen, more supply and less demand should halt the increase in prices or even lower them. Not sure what is "nonsensical" about the post.

Cuba. . .an offer of $50.00, dinner and a sojourn in air-conditioned hotel room commands the attention of "drop-dead" gorgeous lads.

As it is in Montevideo, so I have heard, and without the complications in travel to and from the island, though Raul does appear more hospitable than his evil sibling....

a smart reply. if the $4-5k I spend on an escort's time was the breaking point for me, then I shouldn't be hiring in the first place and wouldn't. what's worse are those who walk that line to the tune of $200-300.

the economy has no bearing on my wealth. As long as people keep buying gasoline, I'll be fine

based on what folks here are saying, they'd have issue with affording to GET to cuba. gorgeous or not, you have to be able to get to point b to do the hiring

I felt it was nonsensical because you assume too much. I do not believe that the 'Fiscal cliff' will have any affect on prices in the escort community. Interesting theory, but after coming through one of the most devastating economic downturns in modern history, we are not seeing a decrease, as you say should be happening, according to your premise, but rather an increase in prices. I will retract the word "nonsensical" as it was the first word that I thought of. In the end I just don't buy your premise. I guess we will both shall see very shortly who is more correct on this.

Exactly. If 200-300 is your make or break point, and I don't fault those that do, I just think that perhaps curtailing hiring altogether might be a better way to go in the short term, until things improve.

I have no idea what the actual trend is in provider rates. My thoughts on rates are anecdotal and subjective. It pays to shop around and look for deals because I know for a fact that higher rates are no guarantee of a superb experience just as lower rates are no predictor of a failed experience. Happy hunting yall!

I guess we will have to wait to see if we go over the "cliff" and then if there is an effect on escort rates.

There are many men for whom hiring an escort is a "treat" that they save to give to themselves occasionally. There are other men who put their time with escorts on a credit card to pay off over time because they do not have the ready cash. There are men who live close to the financial edge and these will be the first ones where escorts will see demand drop. Should they be hiring; that is a value judgement.

Again, a reminder that the "cliff" is more than just the tax rates that will rise. There is the rise in Social Security taxes removed from every pay check. There is the massive increase in unemployment estimated at over three million people. There will be cuts in government spending that will echo throughout the economy. I hope there is a settlement and we do not go over the "cliff" due to the pain caused on a human level.

I do agree that often the quality of service is not reflected in the price paid. Over the years, I have had great times with men priced at the lower end of the market and not great times with men priced at the upper end. That is why the reviews here are so important as they give an indication of the quality that one can expect from an escort.
