When I hired my very first escort a year and a half ago, I noted that he actually advertised under two separate escort names. He charged $300 per hour under one name and $250 under the other. I opted for hiring him at the lower rate and did not inform him that I noticed he had two ads. That first escort experience was so positive that I have been hiring on a regular basis since then.

I have paid a bit higher if the escort was a well-reviewed “porn star” whom I vetted and deduced from reviews and forum comments might be a good fit (no pun, LOL) for me. In addition, a few rentmen have had special talents in addition to their positive buzz and reviews that made me want to pay a higher rate to experience their specialty. IMHO I have not really seen a trend in the time I have been hiring escorts (admittedly not nearly as long as some forum members) that their rates overall have actually trended higher.

I'm pretty sure a very similar thread was going around about a year ago when the United States lost it's triple A credit rating.

That had absolutely zero effect on business, thankfully.

I certainly wish you all the best in 2013.

It appears to me that RickP is probably correct on this.

I was not part of the thread on the US losing its triple A credit rating. The difference between that event and maybe going off the "cliff" is that the "cliff" event will take money out of almost everyones pocket while the credit event took no money from weekly pay checks.

Fewer dollars in each pay check will give some the choice betwwen buying food or sex. Oh, now I see bigvalley's point: those people will be eating less.

I find the conversations regarding gentlemen pricing over analized. Location does have a big factor in this and in general expect certain gentlemen to be more in certain locations, cost of living. Leaving that aside, the basic point is that a gentleman will charge whatever he can get. A client will pay based upon want and desire. Sometimes desire will just outweigh all else and thus client in afterthought will say I paid too much. Well I would disagree because based upon your desire at the time it was NOT too much. Now have I felt I paid too much after a meeting, hell yeah and more than once, am I mad? Yes. But when i take a day or two I realize when price should have been issue, I was the one to blame for taking the bite, not the gentleman. I believe a gentleman should charge whatever he can get. Myself as the consumer always has the right to say no. Have I said no, yes I have. I did so politely and thanked the gentleman for his time and I moved on. If a gentleman is not getting business or the kind of business he wants, he as a self-proprietor will make the decision to adjust his price.

So if the gentleman's pricing is not to your desire than just simply say no. Some will be surprised and others will take in stride, but regardless the gentleman can charge whatever he wants and you can simply say no. So time to stop being pissy about the subject, some guys charge more than others but you want the guy that charges more, well that is just too bad, pay up or move on. There are plenty of fish in the sea.

I almost always try to negotiate the price because my interests don't require much effort on their part. Some of them are willing to negotiate, some are not. It's best to not over-analyze the situation. Either pay the rate they want, or move on to someone else. There will always be more escorts. I can't even keep up with the number of them who interest me.

Taters, my man, taters! My county extension agent informs me that taters will be the thing! A potable good that travels well and you can eat! Try to refuge with a trunk load of gold bricks! I daresay making change off a brick will be "somethin' else"! What Russian man of affairs in 1918 thought a few minor riots over a bread shortage would lead to anarchy and revolution? Fortunately, my marker is in sight down the road, my coffee can, decorated by a sem-famous artist is on the shelf awaiting my ashes, and, hopefully, I will take my leave before the deluge. Knowing I digress from topic of the thread, I will punish myself without being admonished by the moderators: one week "off the board".

Just wanted to drop a few quick points in here, regarding the increased rates you're seeing from guys.

I'd hazard to guess the higher rates are not only from A) Porn Stars / Guys with a visible presence and verifiability that they are who they say they are, but moreover B) They are touring guys. The costs to travel have risen exponentially. Not just gasoline- but planes, hotels, rental cars, etc. I am Mr. Cheapo, Price-line EVERRYYYYYTHING and often have to stay in very remote places, in order to get fair priced places. I'm literally out 1,000 bucks each and every trip I take, before I even hit the ground. That translates into giving up 4-5 clients, just in order to break even...So I think that some of these guys who'd prefer not to do huge volumes of clients...would rather just try to hit home runs on one or two or three calls...to cover their costs faster. Double edged sword, of course- because you'll scare alot away in the process.

The final piece of the puzzle is the mind numbing one. Rentboy used to charge 19.95 for a small city, 29.95 for a medium city, or 39.95 for the larger cities. Now, you're looking at 29.95, 49.95, and 69.95, respectively...just as the 'base' ads, not evening going Gold or Platinum like you'd have to in New York for primo exposure. Men4RentNow? 69.95. Gouging escorts. When you have multiple ads running and are now coughing up another 200 a month in advertising, minimum...it becomes cost-prohibitive. I'd predict volumes/numbers of rentboys will actually be dropping in the near future.

I have said this all along, that cost for the escort goes up more for them than it does for us. Especially since they are traveling so much. We can always cut back around the house, like not eat out as much, go out less, be more careful when we shop, but an escort has a lot of costs that he can not control. As my friend always says.."If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch"...(OK that was a joke people, no hate mail please)
