If that's where they're physically located, they're probably without power. Which would explain why the site is down - the backup batteries have probably run out of juice.

Rentboy is not working on this side of the pond either. Considering the storm in NYC last night the problem might be related.

 

Sometimes I don't get the negativity and bitterness of some. There are serious clients out there who don't use the site just as "jerk off material" but actually hire off Rentboy. Moreover thousands of service providers WORLDWIDE pay for their ads. And when Rentboy is down there's no business.

Not being from the areas that have been significantly impacted, I would think that at least for the next days or so it would be difficult for guys to get around easily for meeting up even if contact could be made through Rentboy. Of course, the sex drive can be very strong and can overcome many obstacles Are people still going about things in a semi-regular fashion or are things pretty deserted at the moment?

 

And yes, many in addition to escorts are going to have a period where they aren't earning but as was stated this is an escort site so that is the focus and certainly a valid thread.

Perhaps you could entertain the possibility that the issue may be an inability to articulate thoughts/ideas in a way that would minimize misinterpretations rather than insulting or attacking others for being too dense to comprehend.

Back to what I hope was the original meaning.... I suppose RENTBOY's server was blown o;ut with all the other damage in NYC. RENTMEN, on the other hand is alive and well, and maybe, just maybe a few resourceful working guys may move over finally to that site if they are still seeking business.

 

A caveat -- with all subways out and most transport to and from outside NYC cancelled or nearly impossible, unless your favorite guy is already in your phone book and within walking distance, I think both clients and escorts in NYC (and other affected East Coast areas) will be unable to hire or be hired. Then again, on the client side, many of us are unable to get to work, and unable to make the money needed to hire.

It's possible, by the way, is not that Rentboy is down, but that its domain name server or one of the intermediate servers is down.

 

whois says that the rentboy domain server is brave.net, and that seems to be down. The administrator of both rentboy and brave.net is on whatswhat.com, and that's down.

 

rentboy doesn't seem to have shown much business continuity planning. Perhaps they contract out all the technical stuff.

From the power outage map I looked at earlier, this area (very near my own NYC place) did not lose power. By 14th Street, only the areas close to the river lost power.

 

(I'm currently in the midwest though, so I don't know for sure.)

Most of lower Manhattan south of 34th street is without power. From one of the staff members at the NYC office:

 

"Power is still out in our office and in our secure server bunker in downtown NYC, so all websites/ service down. Sorry, not alot we can do when the city infrastructure is underwater. People are lucky in NYC just to have a cold shower and food. So be patient, thanks."

I have been an advocate of gayromeo, and this is a good time for escorts to consider signing up for a free account. they are based in Amsterdam (the Netherlands --- not New York) and so would not be subject to a US power loss. I am certain that Steven Draker can give all the plusses and minuses of gayromeo, but it seems the only thing keeping it from being the alternative to rentboy in the USA is lack of escorts signing on. Not really. It's about some deciding to make GIANT LEAPS instead of actually reading what has been written. Surprise. There was NOTHING in my post that could be remotely described as "judgmental" to those who hire rentboys, which for anyone who reads, would realize I do all the time.

 

Some people just choose to see things where things don't exist. Not a surprise, really.
