This is good news. I'm glad Men4RentNow is doing this. Maybe this will finally somehow get clients and escorts, who both profess to hate the site, out of this chicken and egg cycle of being stuck there.

I don't know what Rentmen is like for escorts, but for users, it's the best of "The Big Three" except for the big downfall that very few escorts post there. I hope this move finally drives listings to Rentmen.

Just a reminder to all the guys deleting their accounts on that horrid site: remember to delete the text and pics from your ad before it expires, otherwise your phantom ad may be stuck on the site for eternity with no contact information, making client's think that you're the irresponsible party.

Half the ads listed on M4RN are dead (lapsed subscriptions). At least that's the way it is in Seattle. It's very frustrating to those of us who pay as our ads are displaced down the search results below these retired escorts' ads.

I do agree that M4RN is a better source for clients in secondary markets. When I traveled to Milwaukee I only got one hit from Rentboy but 12 from M4RN. When I went to Chicago it was the opposite.

When I search M4RN for my city, all the expired ads are at the end.

As a client, this is one of the reasons I dislike M4RN. I can't always tell who is actually available and who just never took down their ad.

If the 'Contact info' block is missing from the right column in the ad, then the ad has expired. Granted, you have to click to 'View full ad' to see that, but when I browse in my city, at least, all the expired ads are at the end.

That being said - Rentmen would be my preferred choice IF escorts used it. maybe these changes will drive more of them there. :)

Hey Kevin,

Good point, and I actually did that the last time I had an ad I didn't want to continue. I changed the text of the ad into "This ad has expired". Guess what, they didn't approve that text and the old text stayed "live". Regarding pictures, you can delete most of your pictures, but not the last one. You may decide to upload a picture of a bouquet of flowers and keep that as the last one. :p

With the money the ads bring in M4RN advertises elsewhere and that's what brings clients to M4RN. Those are the clients who hire the escorts. What most escorts notice is that an ad on M4RN brings in clients and revenue and the escorts will be "happy" to pay for an ad on M4RN. That's when the circle is complete. M4RN doesn't really have to listen to the escorts. The escorts will continue to pay for the ads as it's in their best interest, so is their thought.

Unless ... a fair number of escorts decide to stop their ads in M4RN and advertise elsewhere, either on paid or on free websites. The money flow that pays for the ads that M4RN advertises elsewhere will dry up. M4RN won't be able to advertise so much themselves any more. That means less clients drawn to M4RN and that in it's turn means less revenue for the escorts. The escorts may decide that an ad on M4RN isn't that worthwhile anymore, discontinue their ads and the circle is broken.

That's the moment that M4RN will be forced to listen to the escorts and treat them as customers who bring in the money. And let's be fair, the escorts do bring in the money that M4RN lives from.

Money talks ...

Best is if as many escorts as possible do it at the same time. Even better is if all escorts move to the same (other) website and inform all their clients where to find them. Adrian, my compliments for the list you provided. I think we should check which websites corresponds best to that list. I think I have a list of 40 websites that we can evaluate, including Germany and the Netherlands where the legislation is so much friendlier towards escorts. Bye bye any concern about the U.S.C. §2257 at the same time.

I'd like to add four criteria :

g) A client can see nude pictures from escorts without need to create a profile (no matter paid or unpaid).

h) Escorts can protect their pictures by placing a watermark over the pictures.

i) No need for escorts to send in a copy of their ID to the website.

j) Escorts can put a link to their own website in their ad.

Are there any volunteers who like to be in the jury to judge websites?

Anton.

ps: I'd like to suggest that we post about this subject in just one section, i.e. either the Lounge or Ask An Escort, but not both. LOL, checking only only one thread is handier. ;)

So Anton, I have advocated that American providers should consider putting up ads on gayromeo. Yes, I know that the site is very popular in Europe and that there is not quite a critical mass even in in NYC yet. If, however, Miguel and Joey and Nate are mad enough (and not going to take it anymore) they could e-mail every provider on M4RN and ask them to sign up --- free on gayromeo. Then there WOULD BE a critical mass and M4RN could just happen to fade away.

You have the experience with gayromeo in Europe. Does it work well enough to compete with a neutered M4RN?

Comparing RB and gayromeo, gayromeo havs every feature of Rent Boy except Rentboy gives rate in and out and overnight and weekend (gayromeo only has space for hour and overnight) --- but you can add all of that in the copy.

RB has a location for safe sex.

On the other hand gayromeo has, hair style, Beard and type of beard. Piercings, Tats, Sexual Position (including Position, Kissing, Fucking, Oral, Dirty, Fisting, S&M, Fetish,) as well as Client age and Locations. Gayromeo escorts can also add photo albums, linked profiles, partners, guestbook and adverts. (say the escort also rents rooms).

There is also plenty of space to write copy and no links to e-mails or websites seem to be forbidden. Also, the regular membership for escorts is free.

Hey Guys. An interesting thing regarding the men 4 rent policy change. In my ad (which I never link here because I prefer rentmen.com as my #1 site and rentboy as my #2 site) m4rn LEFT IN THE RATES IN my ad copy (the body of the ad) Yes it says ask me in the box but they left in the rates that I included in the text. So there is a way around it for the potential new clients who actually read the ad and not just look at the pics. Whether or not this is the long term policy or not is unclear. I must say for the record that wheter or not we as providers like m4rn or not when I travel to medium sized cities (and even Chicago or Houston...which are big) the response from m4rn triples the response from rentboy or rentmen. This is not the way I would like it to be but it is reality. http://www.rentboy.com/mikey9nola1 or http://www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop It is the VIDEOS on rentmen that in my mind make it the best site. My new clients can actually see me and hear me and watch me therefore they can make an educated and informed choice.

It's much easier to write code or an edit command to put 'Ask me' in the Rates fields of all ads than to scan & edit the varying text of every ad.

Unless the added that text after the policy change, I'm betting that any new ads or updated ads will not allow that info in the text. :(

Mine was the same, but I unknowingly edited my ad and the next time around my rates in the ad copy were gone. The $ sign was removed from in front of the rate though. So I thought, well maybe I can just put it up as that then. Nope...

So, just don't ever edit your ad again.

I thought I would share this bit of info. According to Alexa, M4RN's traffic is down nearly 36% in the last 7 days. Could this be the beginning of the end? I sure hope so.

Nice try—but Rentboy's traffic is down almost 31%, and last month and 3 months ago it was down an even greater percentage than M4RN's.

Could this be the beginning of the end? I sure hope not.

I'd rather have at least two sites—where one is a backup plan for another, even if I don't use the other site.
