I once hired an escort who also did stand-up comedy. We gave it a go, but our dicks weren't standing up, so he proceeded to make me laugh for an hour. I enjoyed the comedy, but $200 for an hour of jokes? No one pays that, do they? But then, I still get a laugh out of it.

Gay male comics are the subject of a lengthy NY Times article today. Apparently, it is not easy to be openly gay and a success in a world where straight comics have historically gotten many laughs at the expense of gays. Lesbian comics like Ellen and Wanda Sykes, even Margaret Cho when she is being honest, are well-known. but name one openly gay male comedian who has reached cross-over success. I can't, and neither could the Times.

But, it is not for want of trying. The lesbian comics have a wide following of gay men, but gay men apparently do not support other gay men like they do the lesbians. So, it's a tough nut to crack. See the Times article to learn more about the gay men who might break the barrier: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/arts/gay-male-comics-await-the-spotlight.html?ref=arts

It doesn't merit a thread of its own, but, speaking of comedy, I found it amusing that this happy couple were married in a restaurant by a minister named beer.

Christian Friedhelm Schoenherr and Jason Seth Goldberg were married Saturday at Craft, a restaurant in New York. The Rev. April Beer, an interfaith minister, officiated.

Mr. Schoenherr (left), 27, is an account manager in New York for T-Systems North America, a division of Deutsche Telekom that provides information technology services. He graduated from Wilhelm Büchner Hochschule in Darmstadt, Germany.

He is the son of Hedi M. Schoenherr and Manfred K. Schoenherr of Hosenfeld, Germany.

Mr. Goldberg, 40, is the founder of Fab.com, a Web company in New York that sells furniture, decorative pieces, art, clothing, jewelry and other products. He graduated from Emory and received an M.B.A. from Stanford.

He is the son of Diane Goldberg and Israel A. Goldberg of Rockville, Md.

Double cool: One's German and the other is (based on his name) Jewish. It's the kind of thing that makes white nationalists' heads explore.

Jim David and Ant are unfamiliar names to me. I looked at David's Wikipedia entry and there is no mention of him being gay, so so much for openly gay. But, the point is not that there are no gay male comics. Of course there are. But they have never reached the success of an Ellen or Wanda Sykes or Margie Cho. That's the point. Why not?

With his father's name being Israel Goldberg I would think it is a safe bet. Not that it matters of course. Just interesting to see the match-up. 13 years age difference is nothing when love abides.

So Lucky, you haven't been on a gay chartered Atlantis cruise?

Jim David has been invited to perform as a comic on every Atlantis cruise since the last century.

Christian Friedhelm Schoenherr's last name translates to "handsome gentleman" ... accurate at this point, I guess. Middle name ?? Friedhelm ?? peaceful helmet ??? I'm not seeing it.

Do I need to continually repeat the point that there are plenty of gay comedians, just none of national stature like Ellen. That's the whole point of the Times article.

I had a clergyman named the Rev. Mr. Beers for many years, but I doubt he would have agreed to officiate at a wedding in a restaurant.

I guess anchoring a network TV Series doesn't count, huh? Oh wait ... Ellen did that too. Now she's "just" in syndication.

I don't see the point you are trying to make.
