CHuck, I didn't cut aand paste because Hooboy got after somebody for doing that once with a news story.

But, you can go to NYTimes.com and register. It is free, you just have to make up a user name and password. I suggest "LuckySlut" or something like that!

Since I don't live anywhere near NYC, I have only mild interest in the HoJo story, but read it to see if the Gaiety was going anywhere b4 I get a chance to go there. BUT, that GE pencil is the BOMB :) If you haven't tried it or even gone to the link above, you owe it to yourself to try it--guarantee a smile or your money back:7 here it is again: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/02/19/dining/19HOJO.html

Ok. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but after reading the article I don't think we should be that relieved. The only thing newsworthy in the piece is the fact that they have a long term lease and haven't been notified yet. Key word is yet. I have no idea how long a notice they are legally obliged to get before being thrown out. The last lease I signed said 6 months.

I did love the retrospective about HoJo's. Down here in the South all the HoJo's were well known as gay hangouts for some reason. I wasn't savvy enough to tell you if that was true but that was what was said.

Very funny to hear that Howard Johnsons hired Jacques Pepin to consult on their menu. Man, there was no trace of the influence of the great one the last time I ate there.

I only ate at the Times Square location once but had a great time chatting with Rick Munroe and Derek Ross and watching the Gaiety boys come in and out of the theatre.

Ahhhh.. memories:9
