Prolific Poster Didn't See It Coming

Longtime Board poster, Lucky, who like most posters at Daddy's uses only one name, was the victim of a vicious weekend verbal attack in a thread he himself may have originated.

"I never even saw it coming.", said the Board favorite, whose injuries were not life-threatening. "I was posting away in one or another of the mundane threads that are the usual weekend fare at Daddy's and Whamo!, out of the blue, I was clobbered by an unknown assailant! Minding my own business one minute, and flat on my back with legs in the air the next."

Such attacks are not entirely without precedent, according to several onlookers, but this assault was remarkable for its suddenness and complete lack of provocation.

"He must have been set up.", said one bystander who was not actually lookin' when the attack took place.

Asked if he could recall anything that might have led up to the onslaught, the victim was quick to respond.

"Absolutely not! I was posting as usual, trying to bring a bit of enlightenment and levity to the few lurkers who were present at the time. Nothing out of the ordinary at all. No alcohol or other mind-altering substances. No gang colors. Nada. In fact, owing to the desert heat, I was not wearing so much as a hoodie. It was entirely unprovoked. I did have a boner earlier in the day, but it did not last longer than four hours, and there was not the slightest residue of tumescence at the time of the ambush. I was sucker-punched, pure and simple."

While the attacker has not been brought to justice, and the incident has not yet been classified as a hate-crime, repercussions may still follow. And, although the victim and the site owner have had minor differences in the past, and were temporarily estranged for a brief period within the last several years, "That's all in the past! I know that Daddy will leave no stone unturned in seeking closure to this unprecedented bushwhacking. We are family, after all, and he will not leave me hung out to dry."

When it was suggested that he might want to temporarily change his screen name until any hint of further danger or drama has passed, the perennial Board contributor was quick to respond.

"I will not! I have posted under this moniker since the beginning of time. Wherever I go, this name goes with me. I have hundreds, if not thousands, of friends and followers who know me by this name and, even though not a single one of them came to my defense yesterday, it is not in my nature to disappoint any of them by turning tail and hiding out."

A respectful murmur was heard from the crowd, followed by a smattering of applause.

In the opinion of one humble reporter, this story is far from over.

God, how did I miss this attack? Was it so stealthy that I just didn't see it happen or was it just that my own head was so far up another part of my anatomy that I didn't take it in at the time?

Great writing thread here- thanks! So are you really a closeted CNN reporter (and if so, why?)

Well, I'm backing Lucky. He's one tough old coot and wise in the ways of board shoot-outs.

In fact, I'll make a standing offer of 5 to 2 odds, Lucky against all comers. Who's up for a little sporting wager?

Recently, Lookin himself was the subject of an attack, not just by a fellow poster, but an admin:

OK, so you're just paranoid?

According to their website (http://www.census.gov/acs), they get their authority from Title 13 of the US Code and, sure enough, there's a $100 fine for not answering. ($500 if you lie.)

Oooh.

You'll find the potential $5,000 fine cited here, under 'Implementation'. It was also mentioned in the letter I received from the Census Bureau.

You go, girl! Be proud!

Lookin responded: Belittling posters by calling them "paranoid" and "girl" seems to discourage discussion among folks who are trying to bring forward different viewpoints about issues which may interest all of us and directly affect a number of us. If that's your intent, as an administrator, wouldn't it be more effective just to shut the thread down?

Guess who came to Lookin's defense? (Hint- it was someone on his friends list!)

Lucky has not survived 12 years here by being thin-skinned! Most people assume that I can handle whatever attack comes my way, and I do. But it never hurts to see someone else say to the offender- "hey, that's simply not true!"

Well I think we just established that Lucky won't be writing the autobiography—at least not on his own.

Lookin is dealing with a comment I made in another thread. Essentially, it was that when attacked, you are usually on your own. People assume, in my case, for one, that I am capable of handling any attack, which I am, and two, they don't want the attacker turning on them, which is usually what happens. Recently Beware of Nick, sometimes but less often these days known affectionately as bon, made a derogatory statement about me that is not true. No one challenged him on it. Then, a person pretending to be a new poster attacked me in a similar fashion. He is not bon, but Boner. My feeling is that the two are quite closely related! Boner is the one above who wants to see this thread die a quick death. But I have noticed that he is an equal opportunity attacker, having chastised many other posters besides me.

People don't post as often when they think everything they say is going to be subject to an attack. If we are going to have a healthy, thriving message center, then someone will have to hold back on the thorns.

Did some high school melodramatic event occur recently? If so, would someone kindly enlighten me?

Nah its just the usual Gossip-mongers and Ass-kissers slingin their shit around. A Very productive use of time and space. More so than me chronicaling my escapades in the sex den, or my city transportation riding, or my pop-culture chit-chat... Funny what really gives these guys a Woody !

You guys dont like being "outted" and you gang up on Every guy thats calls your bluffs..... Pvt, pvt, pvt..........(the elves must all be in an uproar ?)

3 min Update: BVB is already at it... pvt'ing ALL the Elves.....

Lucky, thanks for shedding some light on this. I'm sorry this happened to your threads.

You are right that people don't post as often as they may become subject to attacks. I've often hesitated from bringing up things as sometimes they are not always thought through or may be just spur of the moment feelings that may be the subject of subsequent critique and examination. Most of these times, my comments would likely be gratuitous or unnecessary.
