In principle, no. He is credible only to the extent we give him credence.

For me, ignoring or "shunning" the behavior suffices. We have no obligation to agree with anyone's point of view. The message exchanges within this particular forum reaffirm our more mainstream views or responses. Right now, it is difficult enough just to cope with an extraordinaryily tragic event.

I was accused of actually being Ethan since I strongly defended his right to speak despite that fact that he was pissing people off big time--but he was kicked off the site anyway, for much less offensive conduct and speech, but he still annoyed the powers at be, I guess.

 

I thought then and still feel that it was wrong and even though Adrian or whatever his name is, has demonstrated a complete lack of judgment, commonsense, and moral fiber, and deliberately says things to shock and trys and does bait us, I think to censor him or to kick him out, even if we could, would be wrong and the antithesis of the free speech atmosphere that makes this Bulletin Board work so well.

 

I mean, like even though FFF pisses me off, I wouldn't deny him a place here nor would most of you, despite the rude things he has said, which admittedly are on a completely different level than the jerk we are discussing now.

 

I abhor most of what this jerk says and apparently stands for, but I strongly believe that bulletin Boards should be uncensored.

 

His statement this morning was cruel, malicious and was meant to shock us--but in a sense even that callous kind of conduct serves a purpose--if nothing else, it helps refocuses us, sometimes unites us, and puts things into perspective for many of us. I makes me HAPPY not to be him and thus at the very least feel better about ME :+

 

The problem with censorship, is who chooses and censors the censor and where does it stop and who makes that decision.

 

Who do we trust to filter out ideas expressed by some others of us before we are allowed to hear them. I would rather be shocked and disgusted once in a while than wonder who and what was NOT being heard by most of us due to another's sense of propriety filtering what we heard.

 

What he said, even if he were MODERATED, would not come within any of the rules I am aware of for deletion, so moderation doesn't seem to be the solution either.

 

The Amish quite effectively use SHUNNING or as a few of you have suggested, just completely IGNORE the sonnova bitch.

I have to say no. As much as I abhor what he said, and his anti-semitism in general, censorship is jsut as bad. I was banned from the ATKOL boards this week because I dared to agree with HWSNBN. I have been dismayed by how the war on terrorism is being used to weaken principles that I see as being some of the bedrock that we Americans walk on.

 

Freedom of speech is one of the principles we treasure and we intuitively extend it to areas of our common existence where that freedom was never truly intended to apply. One such place is the Internet, in forums like this one.

 

There is no freedom of speech here but we act and think as if there is and this board is much the stronger and the better for it. That is a testimony to all of those involved in its administration and also those who come and post here.

 

If you do not like the words of another, do not ask for him to be banished. If he is banished, who will then suggest the next person to be banished because of unpopular views? This is a slippery slope we truly do not want to go down.

Wellllllllll....Let's not go too far. Adrian seems to be a special situation due to his hate based malice. For the most part, when people post something that we disagree with or makes us mad, I really think it best that we call them on it and express our dissenting view for others to view and to know that their are other views than the one we find offensive.

 

Too many times, silence is taken as acceptance, and in fact it is a written principal of law in most states that has been passed down from common law. So, it's important to stand up for what you believe in and express your contrary views here--even if it starts a hussy hissy fit fight }(

 

Adrian is a particularly hateful and debase person and thus the suggested silent treatment for him--but even then, I'm not sure if that's best--I hate to let his hateful and psychotic messages stand alone, however, IF THEY ARE NOT EVEN VIEWED AND READ, then I could accept that--cause we all know that if there is no one in the woods to hear a tree crash to the ground, then it really doesn't make any noise at all :+
