Last time I was in Ft. Lauderdale, I stayed at the Mariott Harbor Beach. Good hotel, good restraunts, FABULOUS beach. But it might be a bit off the beaten path if you're doing "other" things in FtL.

As CT DICK says, try the HooBoy travel link, above. You never know what might show up there.

I stayed in FLL about a year ago. I paid about $40/night for a room at the Doubletree (using hotwire.com), which is right on the beach at Olas Altas. It was a wonderful location. Only negative was mandatory valet parking. Hotwire.com uses a lot on Conrad group hotels (Hilton, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Red Lion, etc.), so if you see a 3 1/2 * hotel on the beach, there's a good chance it will be the doubltree. What a wonderful selection of escorts there are. I think that I might move there when I retire. Sean Storm was a real sweetheart. Also lots to pick up from the bars.

There are many wonderful-looking escorts working in FLL who have great reviews on this site. Although I love the pics on Hotspots magazine, I see little reason to take a chance on someone without some good reviews here. The other escort I hired while there was also reviewed on this site, but he no longer escorts. He was even hotter than Sean Storm, and the sex was incredible (although he wasn't as intimate as Sean). I think Sean still has a LTR with Chip Daniels. All I can say is that Chip's a lucky guy! :9

As for the other guy (who will go nameless since he no longer escorts), I've dreamt more than once that I won the lottery, then moved to FLL in one of those homes on the water with a big yacht, and the other escort living with me! <sigh> ;-)

Rick, if you place an ad in Hotspots it will appear online on Friday when the new edition of Hotspots appears. That way you cover the bars, gay guesthouses and saunas where Hotspots is distributed and reach those out of towners who use the internet. Several well-known NYC escorts place ads in Hotspots a week before they arrive, for example Jason Markus is listed this week.:-) BTW the web page for Hotspots is http://www.hotspotsmagazine.com

The way hotwire.com works is that hotels sell rooms they don't expect to fill "anonymously." The hotwire user has the opportunity to buy the room at a deep discount, but the catch is he doesn't know exactly which hotel it is. In this instance, I was told it was a 3 1/2 star hotel on the beach in central Fort Lauderdale with XYZ ammenities (i.e. a swimming pool, restaurant, etc.). Only after I bought the hotel room did I find out the name of the hotel. As a caveat, hotwire tends to inflate by a half to one star their ratings.

This has some similarity to priceline.com, where you name a price, neighborhood, and star rating, and the hotel either accepts or rejects your bid. The main difference is that hotwire gives information on ammenities and a fixed price, whereas with priceline you have to take an educated guess.

What I usually do is start with hotwire, then shave some bucks off and see if I can get a bid through priceline. For example, just today, I wanted to get a hotel room early for a major convention I'm going to in New Orleans this Fall. I know the hotel rooms are going to be packed as soon as the brochure for this convention comes out, so I checked out hotwire, and they had what they described as a 4 1/2 star hotel with a gym but no pool for $81 a night.

This seemed kind of strange, since there are no 4* hotels in the AAA guidebook with a gym but no pool. Nevertheless, many hotels already had their very high prices listed for this time period, and some already had no rooms for sale on Expedia or Travelocity, so I decided to put in a bid with Priceline. I bid $75 for a 4* hotel, and I got the Inter-Continental, which is halfway between the Convention Center and the French Quarter. (It has both a pool and a gym). It's possible I may have gotten the room for $70, but I may never know.

Basically, I usually try to book hotel rooms through hotwire or priceline. One will usually stay at great hotels at quite reasonable rates.

In the Fort Lauderdale case, Priceline didn't beat Hotwire's price, so I got it through Hotwire. (Priceline's price will usually have to be lower than Hotwire's, after all, because there is some advantage to knowing the hotel's amenities, i.e. being on the beach).

The gay beach in town is the Saint Sebastian, which is about five blocks north of Las Olas on the ocean. There is also a very popular nude gay beach south of town, but you have to drive and circle around a bit. It is all legal, etc. You park your car, walk along the beach, (north) past the mixed nude beach and finally at the far north end is the gay section. There are usually lots of guys there

For staying, if you just want something close, the Bahamas Hotel is close, clean, reasonable, has a nice bar and restaurant and overlooks the beach and ocean. A couple of blocks to the north is the section of probably a dozen very nice gay guesthouses, with very nice tropical gardens, pools, clothing optional courtyards, complementary breakfasts, and lots of interesting guests. I have stayed at several, and they have all been nice. Go into google.com and try http://www.gaylauderdale.com or gay fortlauderdale and you should get a whole list. But stay near the beach and you can walk to everything.

It's a great place; you will have a good time.

If you're only staying a day or two, I agree, stay at the Bahama and you can walk to the gay beach several blocks south along the boardwalk. The restaurant at the Bahama, The Deck, is a great place to have lunch overlooking the ocean or you can go south from the gay beach at Sebastien and eat at one of the sidewalk restaurants overlooking the boardwalk (near Las Olas). Nightlife is another story, there is none of the gay variety on the beach, all of it is on the mainland and a taxi ride away. Unless you have a car, forget the nude beach at Haulover, it's in Sunny Isles in Miami, a half hour drive (more at rush hour!). But if you do go, use the northernmost parking lot and you won 't have to walk very far to get to the gay section, it's right across from the lot. Enjoy!:p

hey, men --

as a long-time resident of south florida, a former travel writer for the advocate and other publications, and someone who likes it here a whole lot, i'd like to add a little to this thread. a few things come to mind . . .

the gay area on fort lauderdale beach is across from sebastian street. you will recognize it because most of the men will be gorgeous and most the *them* will be wearing speedos. <lol>

the nude beach referred to is haulover beach and is in miami-dade county. it's a great place, the eye candy is terrific and, on certain days, you will find me and my husband there! it's a 20 - 30 minute drive from fort lauderdale proper. for more info check out http://pbnaturists.org/haulover.html or http://floridanaturist.org/naturism/ or better still http://www.nudetravel.tv/resorts/haulover/

in addition to "hotspots!" and "411," "express gay news" (http://www.expressgaynews.com) is a fort lauderdale-based newspaper. "hotspots" has the most escort ads but all copies are frequently picked up as soon as it is distributed. it is a good idea to check out the internet version. "411" (which is essentially the digest-sized version of the old "scoop") is picking up advertisers and popularity but unfortunately runs a far second. "express" is great if you want substance.

if you are visiting, keep in mind that this is peak tourist season here. it continues through memorial day. yes, some room bargains at nice places are available but you might have to search for them.

there are over 30 gay-owned or gay-friendly guest houses in the greater fort lauderdale area - many within a block or two of the ocean.

my partner stavros and i both stay and see clients at the brigantine - the brig, for short. (disclaimer: we do NOT own stock, have a financial interest or anything in it! <lol>) we recommend it to clients or friends who are coming to town. it is two blocks from the ocean and is leather-friendly and clothing-optional. the staff is terrific. (a friend/client who stays there regularly would get a morning blow-job from one of the houseboys!) they have efficiencies, studios and one-bedroom units. they are NOT paying me to write this <LOL> nor do i get a kick-back. just wanna make sure that's clear! we just like it there. their link is http://www.brigantinehotel.com. the new manager is named joe. tell 'im marcus and stavros said to call. he might offer you a discount - if they are not already booked solid, which happens a lot.

there are many, many other gay guesthouses and hotel from which to chose. the royal palms (http://www.royalpalms.com) has been five-palm rated from out and about for years, but is expensive - advertised at up to $309 plus. (...and not worth it in my opinion.) if you want that type of quality and don't frown at the cost, i like the grand resort. i have seen many, many clients there. it's beautiful, has a terrific pool, jacuzzi in the back, a variety of room types and so on. (http://www.grandresort.net/)

gaylauderdale.com bills itself as "The #1 Online Source For Gay & Lesbian Fort Lauderdale." check out visitors information at http://www.gaylauderdale.com/visiting/

for even more info, there is also a website for "Gay Fort Lauderdale Resorts" at, surprisingly enough, http://www.gayfortlauderdaleresorts.com/

this should be enough to get you started! if anyone has any questions, i will try to be of assistance.

c'mon down! and if you need one or two hot men to help make your visit a LOT more interesting, give me a call!

take care.
