Ok, so you've WON over $540 MILLION in the Mega Millions lottery...

How would you celebrate ?

What would you buy ?

How would you spend it ?

Let the Fantasizing and Day Dreaming Begin.....

(PS dont actually plan on winning. I had a dream that I WON..... Sorry guys! I'm off to Dubai. )

I don't play the lottery. If I did and won Id give those who helped me in the past 100.000 each. Id buy me a nice ranch home up in the TN mountains leaving Atlanta in my rear view mirror. Id fill my ranch with pony's and lots of dogs running around. Id never give another massage. Id hire Patti the millionaire matchmaker to help me find a husband.

I may be criticized, chastised or called a liar but I would do my very best to not do things VERY differently from what I do now. Yes, I would spend more money and, likely, there would be "boys" involved. :) Also, some aircraft to get around. But, I would not give up my "day" job and continue to be interested and involved with the same things that I am now.

My day job is advising folks and doing a little flying here and there and I would be more than pleased to continue that. :)

IF I win, you can see if I am the same person a year from now. :)

Best regards,

KMEM

It's up to $640 million now, cash value $462 million. Depending on what state you live in, half or more of that might go to state and federal taxes. So a mere $232 million.

I'd have to budget carefully. It would not be difficult to spend $232 million dollars in a single day - buy a big yacht, for example.

On my list would be standing each and every member of this forum to dinner at Galatoire's with the "rentboy" of their choice as companion. However, my highest priority in "spreading" the money would be taking care of "them" that take care of me.

Well Robber, If I was to be included in your generous offer, the attendance would most likely be just YOU AND ME. Good plan to keep costs down :D

I have a couple of friends who could suddenly retire. And some local charities and art groups might have a larger budget than they anticipated. But other than that, I don't know. Buy apartments in New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Montreal and Miami, and spend my time jetting between them, perhaps.

I'd try very, very hard to be a good steward of the money. I'd invest it conservatively (muni bonds and stocks with a history of good dividends). I'd discipline myself to spend only the interest (which, FUCK, is millions of dollars).

I'd try to set up an economic development fund to help a very poor part of the state where I was born. I'd also want to direct some money each year to HIV research and other charitable causes. I'd also make sure my sister was taken care of and put aside money to help family and friends.

As far as indulgences, I'm not very materialistic. I wouldn't want to own a statement car or statement house. I'd probably move from my one-bedroom loft to a two bedroom, office, two bath place. I'd like that to be nice though.

My main indulgence would be travel. I'd travel a lot and I'd fly first class. I'd stay in funky, offbeat, and boutique places. I'd take classes in literature and history for fun.

And I ain't gonna lie. I hire some escorts for EPIC playtimes. I'd definitely indulge myself like Oklie does and hire four or five of the best at once for a weekend.

I sure would have fun at the press conference announcing I won.

"This is my soon-to-be ex-wife who I will split the money with. And this is my soon-to-be husband who I will share my portion with".

Maybe form my own super-pac to support candidates who support equal marriage.

And some of my favorite guys, both escorts and clients, will be getting remembered very generously.

To sleep, perchance to dream.

Lately I fantasize about this as much as I fantasize about sex. lol.

I'd make generous gifts to my immediate family, nieces, and my closest friends, to ensure their financial security. I'd buy a nicer car (I enjoy driving) and a nice house (with a library and a couple rooms I could devote to displaying my collections.) I'd indulge my collcting passions - antique Southern pottery, books, and mayve start some new ones (Netsuke, perhaps) and I'd like to travel, accompanied by friends or paid companions. I'd probably spend a week or 2 month in New York and other major cities (London, e.g.). I'd probably rent hotel suites rather than buying apartments, etc. Might buy a beach house or a place in Hawaii.

A nice chunk (maybe 20%) would be set aside for charities (especially local ones). My goal would be to live off the interest and leave the bulk to famility and charities when I died.

I'd take care of my family first, my friends next, and keep enough for myself so that I would never have to worry about money again. Other than that, I don't see any significant changes in my life style.. I'd definitely keep working, or get involved in something that I find rewarding.. something to keep me out of the bars! LOL

I just heard a news report that statistics showed that most big lottery winners burned thru their total winnings in about 5 years. It does take will power I suppose not to go crazy and start spending, But I would just like the feeling to KNOW that i can.

I'd fall somewhere in between KMEM, DG and Rguer. Most of the fun would be derived from giving the money away or doing something meaningful with it. I'd have multiple scholarships (and not just for the smartest kids, but also for the most sensible), and a foundation that promotes some of the issues in which I believe. I'd like to still have a career. I'd also have a standing apartment in a couple of travel cities. I actually wouldn't tell anyone I'd won—I would just start doing things with the money on the sly.

I'd call Mitt Romney first and ask him who his financial advisers are. (no this isn't political)

He lives completely off of investments and investment income and pays 15%. If you don't know what you're doing with your money - your money can take you from the mountain to the valley very quickly. Depending, of course, on how you spend it.

Remaining to be super rich is as difficult, in financial terms, as it is sometimes to balance a 40 hour a week paycheck.

I heard a political reporter say this morning that if he won he's set up a Super PAC. I'd want to do that!

Then I'd call Warren Buffett and ask for both investment AND philanthropic advise.

With some of it I would enjoy life to the fullest. I could actually spring for the large soda at the movie theatre instead of hiding a can of soda in my pocket. Besides living large and comfortable, I would set up a LARGE charitable foundation and spend a lot of time actively managing it to help my passion, animals. I would do everything I could to help the Rhinos and Elephants being slaughtered for their horns and tusks-- buying up as much land as I could and turing it into safe wildlife preserves. I would try and save the whales, lions, tigers, bears, panthers, etc etc. Domestically, I would do what I could for homeless neglected and abused dogs and cats. Donate money to research to help prevent bloat (twisted stomach) and hip dysplasia which have taken my heart and soul from me (as I lost a few of my pups over the years).

I would buy a few pieces of property around the Chicago area and turn them into shelters for glbtq youth. There isn't really a place for them to go at night that is safe and secure to sleep. I would probably stay in Chicago for a few more years but would ultimately purchase a small island some where and move and live as much as I could off the grid. I'd also slip a bit into the pocket of Ron Paul so that he could continue the great work he has been doing for about 30 yrs now. Other then that I can't think of anything else I'd do. I'm a pretty simple person and over all flashy expensive things don't usually impress me.

Hugs,

Greg

I would do the following:

1) Put some in reserve for my family. I have a couple of family members who need assistance, but would run through the money in no time flat if I gave them a lump sum. By parsing it out, they would derive the benefit over time.

2) Set up a trust for my niece and nephew.

3) Hire an adviser to make sure I did not spend the rest on myself right away. Some traits run in families, others hitch a ride on the Shinkansen .

4) Keep my current job until I found something I liked doing better or found another way to occupy my time.
