Oh yes,

When I answer the phone, people ask for the man of the house! So I then talk real low, and say, "You are speaking with him." Then wait for the apologies.

I also have a thick Southern accent. Of course, that in itself can often sound very gay ... I just have no idea if mine does or not. No one has ever indicated to me that it does. I've sometimes wondered if it did.

No, I really don't think so. But I have wondered to myself if anyone else thinks that I do. I'm totally closeted and have never been to a gay establishment. Almost all of the "out" gay men I have contact with are escorts and almost all of them that I know do NOT have what I would call a stereotypically gay-sounding voice either.

Then that's your clue that the "stereotypical gay voice" doesn't exist.

Unfortunately, my voice sounds stereotypically gay when I speak. I attribute it to growing up in Southern California. I try very hard to make it a bit lower and a bit more measured but when I get excited, all bets are off.

If we were to hear you speak, would we have an inkling that you're gay just by the sound of your voice?
In my case, most people i speak with on the phone believe that I am gay Just last week I needed to correct someone:

===="No I am not a lesbian Dad. Put Mom on the phone"

YES..... I dont think a stereotypical gay sounding voice is one that sounds "feminine" but there is an inflection to the voice of a gay MAN at least in alot of cases....( I am not expert on Lesbian voices)

Those that reply that their voice does NOT sound gay is not unusual. Often we do not hear OURSELVES as others hear us.

There is no doubt that when people hear MY voice, they will know I am 100% card-carrying GAY.....

I speak in public often and so one can say the coice is projected for that -- and no one has ever suspected anything.

That said, I dislike phrases like "stereotype" because it depends on who is defining what the norm is.

bore a voice like some more flamboyant types like Johnny Weir, Lambert etc that bother me but the voice together with... the gestures, flamoyant over the top dress etc... I am not attracted to feminine types in a male (nor to butch types in a female).

I don't know whether it sounds gay or not, but I hate my voice on voice mail. Don't know if it's partially my Boston accent trying to be ulta professional or what. In person--No.

Just a slight aside--used to get a lot of telemarketers who would asked to speak to Mrs._______ or the woman of the house. My remark was "SPEAKING" and hang up

Having a public speaking voice that projects DOESNT necessarily mean it cant have a tinge of GAY. Just because it is not brought to your attention, doesnt mean it doesnt exist... and as for "types" we are attracted to, we all have our likes and dislikes. People ARE who they ARE...

damn stereotypes again. what does gay sound like? Most gay clients and friends of mine today sound just like straight dudes. I will tell you that I always encourage clients to actually CALL first cause one of my strengths is a strong moderately southern Texas born/Florida breed decently deep voice. I do, however, hate the phrases straight acting and straight looking . What does straight look, act and talk like?

Some of the profile alternatives in social websites include masc, fem and "in-between" for you to choose from. The question is: when people hear your voice do they think you are gay or might they think you are "in-between" ... whatever that may be..

There may be only one or two ways to answer the original question. One would be to have a group of people, men, women, gay, straight, in a room and then have them blindfolded. Have the questioner speak--read a passage, role play answering a telephone, engage in a short conversation with several people in the room. Then ask each person if they think the speaker is gay or straight. Not sure what the purpose of all this would be. The orignal poster knows whether he is gay or straight---unless he is a young man who is still unsure of his sexuality. Perhaps the poster wants to know if other gays can determine his sexuality by his voice alone? Perhaps he is closeted and wants to stay that way? If the original question had been: can you tell a person's race by just hearing his/her voice, I wonder what the reaction would have been.

An aside to this: to me the voice is one of characteristics that makes or breaks whether I want to spend time with you--not just "sexual time" but any type of time. An example: regional accents usually don't bother me, but the extreme nasality I hear in some areas turns me off---almost like dragging fingernails across a chalkboard(if people remember what those were). I studied in Western New York and thought the nasal twang here was limited to this area---not so. The best/worst example of what I mean? The Kardashian young women---Kim, Kourtney, Khloe. Hard for me to listen to any one of them for more than a ssentence or two.

The Kardashians are "caricatures", NOT people...... But I catch your drift here....

If you are that excited perhaps you don't need to be speaking anyway. :)

Best regards,

Back to the thread, while my voice is moderate (deeper when speaking or reciting, and changes modulation depending on the language I speak -- an oddity that has helped me to speak a number of foreign languages, where each one has its own modulation or opening "tone" if you like). Anyway, the most memorable escorts I have met are ones who, aside from the amazing bodies and sex, also have soothing, lower than medium range, definately masculine voices. I like Southern drawl, but also enjoy regional accents (like Jon Ramsey's NE accent, or Brad Hunt's midwestern one -- voices that never grate). I used to really get off on Joey Ciccone's voice -- which sometimes was Jersey Shore cool (before this was cool), but at other times could be husky, deep and sexy as all hell.

On the other end of the spectrum, I have met escorts whose voice I never heard until the actual encounter, and on opening the mouth, it's as if I have a date with Brittany Spears or some such ilk -- the libido is quickly shut down and the date ends pretty quickly.

I also find that an "aged" voice has something extra thrown into the mix, a voice that has been toned and modulated by time to be mellow -- an amazing voice for nighttime cuddling and morning sex.

The magic powers of voice !

Very dear friend of mine is a voice coach and we always have a huge laugh about how often the voice does not match the perception of what you expect the body to look like at all. Sort of one of those 'in' does the carpet match the drapes jokes ? Some people are gifted with narrative voices or the ideal radio voice and require minimum training - the funny thing being - if you met them in a crowded room you would often be shocked at the beauty of said voice. And be even more shocked at how ordinary they are physically upon meeting.

On the flip side - I have met some pretty tough looking butch leather guys over the years who spewed pearls the moment they opened their food hole and conversely I have met twinks / ribs'nuts geek boys who have had the most terrific voices imaginable! I have also over the past almost 3 decades hired more that a few model type twinks with voices that could shatter glass - cute / sweet adorable guys where the best solution was simply not to put a sock in it, or a sneaker but to get that guy down on his knees asap and enjoying a mouthful!!! Which more often than not was easy and they were often high energy great sex all around.

ME - grew up being a tall lanky geek before the identity existed and up until my early teens grew accustomed to kids bullying me and making fun of my voice - then like a fucking miracle returned to school after the summer holidays when I was 15 and suddenly had this remarkable deep engaging voice and life changed forever. I realized before finishing high school that something amazing had occurred to my voice when I was already having phone sex with buddies in my final year of high school. That summer when I came out (realize this was the mid 70's) within weeks of starting to make gay friends I would get guys calling me just so we could have phone sex . . . and when your young and horny - and just 18 - any and all sex was great !!! That fall after enrolling in college I can confirm that I probably had more phone sex that actual physical sex for the next 5-6 years as guys who I met up with and occasionally had sex with passed my number along to friends knowing my love of phone sex. I fondly re-call getting a couple of calls almost everyone weekend for the better part of my early 20's. Had phone sex with dozens of guys and several regulars that called back weekly for months at a time. I actually remember asking several guys about hooking up and they would always have excuses like a BF, a room mate, the oddest answer always being 'I am a lot older than you and you wouldn't find me attractive or I am just a really average guy who is still uncertain about my orientation.

For those of you old enough to remember - phone line connection services from the late 80's and early 90's ... 'YOU have a message from...' (the pre-internet hook up era) was the golden age of anonymous sex - my voice attracted dozens of response each week, extended conversations often followed and I had to restrain myself from slipping back into phone sex and ultimately this led up to dozens of GREAT hook-ups for several years.

At that time I also started hiring relying mostly on ads in alternative weeklies and gay newspapers and was genuinely surprised at the ease with which I negotiated with potential escorts because so many were smitten with my voice - it was obvious they already had a fantasy conjured up in their mind about what that voice would be attached to - LOL ! Even though I was still a skinny geeky (albeit considerably more successful) adult.

AHHHH - the magic and power of a great voice ... books, stories, movies and theatre built around the magic of the voice that seduces !!!
