A strange move by SC. Is he looking for another market? Since he depends mostly on notionally inexperienced straight guys for the talent, I wonder if this won't drive them away. From my own viewpoint, it isn't only about the safety of the actors but also the dangerous message that may be interpreted by some watching the vids that somehow it is ok to bareback. My thinking, right or wrong as it may be to others, is that watching unprotected sex may make people so intrigued by it that they may put themselves at risk. We can't ignore personal responsibility/accountability, but in the battle against this disease those that promote (and profit from) unsafe sex should not be supported.

We are entitled to our opinions, but I dont think producing a bareback porn scene is any different than producing a regular porn scene in stating it promotes pick up sex or sex outside of partnership or marriage. So using jgoo's logic a person in a relationship should not watch porn because it could encourage someone to stray from their relationship. This was a business decision on Sean Cody's part and they will sink or swim based upon a business decision not morality in an industry based upon immortality. So while I do support your position against bareback sex, I dont think filming and selling bareback sex promotes the decision to do so. I dont mean to sound like people's lives are trivial compared to business. But the choice to have bareback sex is an individual choice. There are far more children being born from hetrosexual couples having casual sex yet I dont see us railing against porn promoting sex between hetro sexual couples without protection that can cause an unwanted pregnancy therefore an abortion. Film studios such as SX, Chaos men, Treasure Island, etc have far more bareback sex fim.s and in fact are exclusively bareback sex and they seem to be doing well in the market place. I just dont see the scenario connecting the dots here.

There are various strains of HIV, some more treatment-resistant or virulent than others. Even if someone is already HIV+, barebacking still has the potential to further compromise their health through exposure to different strains.

I used to subscribe to Sean Cody a couple of years ago, but since the issue where the porn company released Romann's real identity, I haven't been back. I'm disappointed that SC is going against his long standing policy of only presenting safer sex videos. Every now and then, it is actually OK, or even desirable, to pass judgment on something like this. The young men involved is one level of concern; one wonders if they fully understand what they are doing. But in terms of putting this stuff out on the web, it borders (as U mentioned in the other recent thread on this topic) on the sociopathic. Why? Because it could encourage some people with less than fully functional frontal lobes to emulate that behavior in ways that could continue spreading a disease we should all be trying to contain. Well I NEVER bareback. EVER. I always use a condom even though I get asked to bareback almost every single day. If I did bareback I could be much busier than I am. But as few rules as I have in life using a condom is one of them.

 

Yet I can handle others barebacking amongst themselves. Even in the same room or scene in which I might be playing or being filmed. As far as movies go I have mixed feelings. Really. In various movies actors smoke cigarettes, drive without seatbelts and the editors carefully erase any indication of safety nets etc. I understand that it is a movie. So to me a bareback porn may well have condoms that have just been cleverly hidden from the scene. By alternating from female condoms to male condoms and skilled editing I could easily make a safe scene appear unsafe. Not to mention that there are condoms were once you remove the end rolled up part one could hardly see it.

 

Still though I do take Joe and others comments to heart. People have and do die because of it and some concern for the message being sent is appropriate.

The reaction to this apparent news seems a bit hysterical. People bareback all of the time. It is gay men themselves who encourage the porn industry to supply bareback porn by their very enthusiastic purchases of it. Even the tiny porn shop in Palm Springs has a huge bareback section. It's what people want to see. So I don't see getting your panties in a twist because yet another company has seen the dollars to be made. Those dollars aren't coming from nuns.
