I've done a lot of independent, backpacker type travel and Raul's post reminded me that I've had better luck hooking up (platonically) on trips than I've had with overnights & weekends with escorts---indie travelers are usually self-reliant, but willing to share info and small stuff you've forgotten and provide good but respectful company--it's part of the code of the road. OTOH, escort client relationships are less horizontal socially and more complicated. I don't think an hourly can really prep you for whether someone will be a good traveling companion. I usually rely on reviews to help in judging who might be good for something long, but occasionally they don't provide enough info or I somehow manage to miss the one description of a problematic long appointment that turns out to be much like one that I wind up experiencing. If you want round the clock sex that needs to be clear, as well as if you want something more like simple companionship. If the escort knows about art and culture or wants someone to broaden their horizons that also needs to be clear. A brief appointment is insufficient to judge all this and I don't think I'd take an agency recommendation. The best experience I've had (and one where I did a repeat) involved a guy who was quite clear what he wanted from a travel experience (a knowledgeable host as he hadn't traveled much and wasn't a keen indie explorer) and where I was clear, in response (my own likes/dislikes and limits as a traveler). We'd met more than once and while I wouldn't say we knew each other well, at least some of the awkwardness that comes from sharing transportation (the train in our case) was made easier. It probably helps that I have done lots of travel and have sometimes spent days at a time with relative strangers. I have enough curiosity about people and things, as well as respect for limits and privacy that i can usually make all kinds of social interactions pleasant and interesting 9despite being a rather shy person). If you can't do that and if you're relying on the escort to do that, then you're in trouble.

There are some special qualities one might look for in an escort for travel beyond the sexual or bedroom compatibility concerns of shorter hires.

Someone to help with the physical or logistical aspects of traveling, help with luggage, hailing taxis, running around town getting show tickets, befriending the local constabulary, museum curator or whatever. An escort who is not above being Sherpa, assistant, concierge, maybe even a bit of a body guard.

Also someone who will enjoy discovering new things with you. A companion who is different than you or complements you might be better than only comfortable compatibility.

Might be good if the escort is independent and possessing initiative, and either knowledgeable about the culture and place you are traveling OR perhaps better yet inventive and able to think on his feet. Thereby helping you to discover new things, take advantage of last minute opportunities and help save the trip or day from unexpected glitches.

Someone who can roll with the punches, run across town to fetch a taxi, or umbrella, or scramble and find a new restaurant, find alternatives in case of a train strike. Someone who isn't afraid to learn a few polite words in another language or patiently use gestures and body language to get by.

When I read about the horrors of being stuck in a small cabin or hotel room with an escort that is less compatible than hoped, I wonder why? Unless it is for sleeping or intimacy I'm not sure why one would even be in the room when even the smallest town or most boring country must surely have something to see or discover.

I've been on travels ranging from 1 to 6 people where storms, strikes and even sedition threatened to derail our trip. But sometimes all it took to make the trip even better than planned was sprinting into town during a storm to get food, or sweet talking a hotel clerk into finding us a room, or learning how to say thank you in the local language which neither of us had even knew existed. Sometimes an extra bottle of vodka opens the dining car in the middle of the night, a sincere interest in the local culture gets you invited to the mayors house for dinner or the back room of the museum. The kids playing soccer in the street might show you ruins that most tourist never see. The chef comes out to see who actually ordered the menu item written only in local dialect and then invites you into the kitchen etc.

Gosh...these are exactly the type of experiences I would love to have on a trip...spontaneous, exciting and fun! Very nice indeed.

Most important is to know the guy

Whilst I was reading one of the many wonderful reviews of David-sf on this site, I came across the news that he's launched a new website, themaleadventure.com, dedicated to organizing all sorts of vacations with clients. As someone who loves to travel I must say that I am intrigued. Has anyone been on medium to long vacations with an escort to some far away or exotic destination? I'm certainly not talking about a weekend hire or a short break. If so, what should one expect? Would you recommend it? Are there any specific escorts out there who shine more than others on such vacations? Any tips, recommendations and/or pointers?

Indigo, I've done this thing about a dozen times from a weekend to about 2 weeks. What's already been discussed here makes perfect sense - know the guy beforehand to a good degree, establish rules and downtime, set limits, agree on a price beforehand, and keep things relatively open. Depends on the type of vacation too. A leisurely cruise doesn't extract the same stress points as (say) an African safari in a tent. I'll give you some of my experience --

1) Expect that you should pay for everything (plane ticket, excursions, food, wine, taxi, everything).

2) I've learned the the price has a big range from reasonable to ridiculous. But think of it as a business - the longer the vacation, the less per day you should expect to pay - and the escort should know this.

3) I agree about having downtime but it ALWAYS BECOMES A PROBLEM if the escort requests downtime to "fool around". I was on a cruise in the Greek Islands one time with an escort who started flirting with a female passenger. It was benign flirting at the outset but it got out of hand towards the end. This is the ONLY time I had a problem with an escort. So I would NOT agree to any downtime with this sort of thing and I would make this clear with the escort. Trust me, it would not be fun if you're in your hotel room alone and the escort is in some neat club in Mykonos with someone else and calls this "downtime".

4) It's really important that you know the guy well. I've taken escorts on travel trips many many times but I've been stood up twice. Once, an escort from LAX who's been reviewed well here did not show up for a trip to FL. This is totally NOT cool but what are you going to do about it? Besides, either party may have quirks about sleeping arrangements at night. Some escorts have graciously advised me in advance about how they sleep at night and some clients may also have particular sleeping habits that the escort might not know.

5) I've hired esocrts whom I've met abroad and traveled with later elsewhere. I met a Brazilian escort in Rio and we met later in Spain. That was a great trip for both of us even though he didn't speak a word of English. I took an Eng-Port translation book and dictionary and things were really fine. I must admit Hungarian and Czech are tough languages.

6) Finally, I'd say try to keep the drama down. Travel can be leisurely or intrepid. Especially if you plan to take the escort to an adventurous trip (outside the usual Caribbean or Europe thing), allow for errors and not be bogged down by them. I've taken esocrts to the Maldives, Sri Langka, Borobodur, and Langkawi, for example, and had a fantastic time! Also, please remember that the penalty for homosexuality in the country of Uganda is death. Good luck traveling...

Thanks 6832white for the great advice. I have another question and I would love to hear everyone's take on it. When traveling with an escort do you check into into the same room or do you book separate rooms?

To add to the excellent advice from 6832white, and to answer your own question, Indigo, it is presumed you are sharing the same room. Why else hire the guy for the trip??? However, the dicey part comes when booking the room to make sure you get the KING SIZE bed, otherwise they could presume (wrongly) you want twin beds or some such thing, but I learned in recent years that concierges and ftont desk people are very saavy and discreet and not at all put ouy when you say "1 King" or some such thing.

However, as 6832white also said, you have to know each other's quirky sleep habits. I have often spent overnights and longer with a great Hungarian escort. I had to learn that he sprawls and tosses in his sleep (somewhat fitfully). I learned that if I have a KING bed here is more than enough room for that without itting me as he turns fitfully (and the upside is that he knows I like to cuddle as I fall asleep, and so does he). Snoring can be problematic (so I always travel with a few pairs of ear plugs for the escort and for me, if needed). Also the BIG question of morning sex -- that should be clearly spelled out before the first night. Good luck!

Although sharing a room is I think most common it certainly is NOT the rule. There are a number of clients out there who want their space and prefer to sleep along. Which of course doesn't necessarily mean any less intimacy during the hours when one is not sleeping. In fact sometimes it means more intimacy since the client (and presumably escort) is well rested.

This is up to you. But even on this message forum there are a few -if a minority- clients who are in the habit of booking separate rooms for overnights.

Oh and the same applies as far as beds. Most clients seem to book a shared room with shared beds but there are a number who prefer two beds. Just because the beds are separate obviously doesn't keep two from playing together in one bed or another. Also there are some folks who are not even in the habit of having sex in bed, after all a bed is really designed for sleeping. as opposed to the couch, sling, ottoman, floor, counter, etc.

I also know at least one client who prefers to a room with two queen beds, one in which we both play and the other in which we both sleep. Makes perfect sense to me as after vigorous sex it is rather nice to be able to sleep even if the bed has gotten a bit messy. Who the hell wants to try and roust and wait for room housekeeping and deal with them coming in? It is also nice in the event that one of us gets too tossy and turny during the night there is always a place of refuge.

Believe me separate beds is not nearly the barrier to intimacy and fun that a bad nights sleep might be. Especially if you enjoy morning sex.

The bottom line is do want you want, and feel free to use your imagination or experiment as to what you might enjoy.

After rereading this thread there is one thing that I might add. I travel with an escort on a regular basis and have always found the experience extremely rewarding. The one type of escort travel trip that I would likely avoid is a cruise. I realize that cruise ships appear to be quite large and can easily accommodate 2,500+ people but they are in reality quite small. The cabins are usually extremely small (unless, of course, you can afford a major suite) and two people don't really have any private space. Most activities on board are extremely limited. Now the one exception to this is taking a gay cruise but for various reasons that isn't always practical for some clients and the space is still limited

Epigonos, I went on a cruise and fantasized about bringing along a strapping escort, but as the days went on (I was with a work colleague, nothing sexual), I realized it was really a closed space in our cabin (I had a large cabin, upper deck etc...), and it ws also a small world - constatly rnning into the same people. I imagine having an escort in the tight space would have been too much.

Raul -- great points about the "bed" situation. Personally, I do not sleep well when someone is right next to me in the bed, and so on a weekend with an escort, by the 2nd day I am exhausted, not from sex (sadly) but from sleep deprivation. More recently I choose rooms with two queen size beds -- the clean one is always for the escort; we play in mine, he can then get his own sleep and I mine (and I am pretty careful for not messing the sheets too much ;-) )

I imagine though in the future, if my finances allow it, I may be opting more for the two separate but adjoining rooms.

I have slept alone my entire adult life. My internal thermostat tends to run very warm thus if someone snuggles up to me while I am sleeping I become miserable and way too warm. I don't have a problem sleeping with an escort as long as he sleeps on his side of the king sized bed and I sleep on mine. Steven Kesslar and I have been doing this, for a number a years, with great success.

That is very true Irtwo. When I took the cruise mentioned above - 10 days in the Mediterranean - it was by far the most economical and enjoyable vacation I had taken in years. I enjoy seeing sights, traveling, experiencing new and different cultures, and on such a cruise I saw 5 countries in those days, and only had 2 days/nights out "at sea". It was, for me, relaxing, enjoyable, entertaining and enjoyable. The colleague wo was with me sharing the cabin is a good friend - straight and married, but his wife absolutely refused to go on a cruise, though he wanted to for years. I had an opportnity for a reasonable superior deck cabin, approached the couple (she was very agreeable for HIM to take the vacation), and off we went.

When you realize you have hardly any expenses for food, no real extras aside from refraining from gambling, it becomes a steal.

Sounds very familiar! I remember one guy who compalined that I didn't have sufficient blankets on the bed but that cuddling up to me was like sleeping beside an oven!

I love to cuddle but find it difficult to actually sleep comfortably while embracing or being embraced. My best sleepmate and I would cuddle just until we were about to fall asleep, then we'd move to separate sides of the bed. Some nights, we stayed on our own sides; other nights, we chased each other all night (one holds, then withdraws, then the other turns and holds).

Then you better have very deep pockets, Indigo. I travel for pleasure for months each year and I enjoy staying in luxury hotels in beautiful parts of the world. I've found that, tho there are "deals" to be had, hotel-rates have increased markedly in some major cities this year. For example, I'm in Cape Town currently and the hotel is charging $700 a night (for a lovely room, but not a suite).

I question why you would want to double the major cost-element of any overseas trip. If I had a guy with me in a separate room on this trip, that would add over $5000 a week to the bill. That sum alone would enable you to enjoy significant 'quality time' with an attractive male companion.

When a rentboy comes to me at a hotel, usually for a one or two night "stay" for him, I have always provided a separate accomodation for him. The exception to my "rule", was the old Pontchartrain Hotel at New Orleans where I took a suite of two rooms "at the back of the house" and fitted out with two beds; however, I had a long association, perhaps ten years, with the particular rentboy who occupied one of the beds, and, thereby, we were "accustomed" to each other habits.

I have been doing overnights for years. Again I live in a city with zero gentleman activity and have to travel out of town a couple of hours away to have fun.

Until last summer I never spent the evening and returned the next morning for the fun. This past summer I stayed the night twice, my experience was not worth it. Not because of who I was with, but I was uncomfortable with it. I dont like arms draped over me while trying to sleep. So I wont do again. separate beds sounds good to me. Also some guys are sprawlers, esxpecially the bathroom counter and leave stuff everywhere and way overpack. They take all available drawer and closet space. Some guys just take over the space when they come. So seperate rooms sounds even better, but why not hire from where you are going. Or having a gentlemen fly in for a day or two and then hire and guy for the remainder. Unless you and the person you are with are an experienced "cruiser", I would not use a cruise for that first experience. I would find someone experienced in the area of traveling and go with them, they are such professionals, like a Steven D, Juan of Vancouver, Romann of Chicago or others.

I am going to give the "scenario" a try this Christmas; in the past, I have preferred to patronize a rentboy whose "home port", if you will, was my destination. On one occasion, I did undertake a holiday cruise with a young Argentine lawyer of my acquaintance, and, it proved a delightful sojourn. He was not a "rentboy", but, I did pick up the "tab" for us.

I agree with the “home port“ concept, although I would say more “home country.” It certainly would mean less of a trial if he had to go back to his “home port.” I have had the fun, in the past several years when friends were not available and I was going abroad, of finding a “native” in the country that I was traveling to, to show me the ropes in different ways (although B&D did not happen to be one of them). I have found that their knowledge of the history, culture, customs and language has added immeasurably to my understanding. They have all been real “companions.” They have also done planning, lifted bags, pulled me back from an oncoming tram (Istanbul), and made reservations: the bed of choice in Italian is letto matrimoniale. Yes, there was sex, pretty damn good sex, but when I think of experiences in Turkey, Russia, the Middle East, and Italy sex is not the first pleasure that I remember. Often it was a shared meal together with great food and wine in a place that we congratulated ourselves on finding… a place where there were no tourists but us. In every case my companion was also a tourist in his own country. In most cases he had been to some of the areas that we were visiting, but if a few cases the territory in his own country was entirely new.

As an Italian-American I have been going to Italy since my college years. My family was from the south of Italy so I learned at home an antique dialect. One of the pleasures today of traveling with an Italian escort with great language skills is that I get Italian lessons all day and I am really making progress. I now have a favorite “Roman Boy”. I would not think now of going to Italy when I have time without friends and family and not inviting him to join me. He is a real “companion”; he calls himself gigolo, or escort, but he is more a tour guide, facilitator, and partner in crime. He seems to love what I love: architecture, history, opera, music, art, and food, food, food, and did I mention wine? I met him through another Roman escort and we first set eyes on one another in Sicily where we were planning eight days. They were eight perfect days.

The same has been true for the other escorts, most of whom I found through gayromeo.

I have violated Rule#1 as set out by “Ted”

“Rule #1 for me is don't go on an extended trip with someone you've never met. At least an hour meeting up front, and preferably an overnight is a minimum requirement.”

I have violated Rule # 2 as set out by “Ted”, although my companions usually take what time they need to make calls, answer e-mails and “walk around”.

“Rule #2 is take a break from each other once a day. You are not glued together. Give him some gym and email time, and some for yourself too. He may not take it, but at least offer.”

I have modified Rule # 3 as set out by “Ted”

“Rule #3 Ask him if there is something he would particularly like to go see/do upfront and then schedule it - either for him alone or preferably for both of you. You may find out something entirely new to you that you really like after all.”

I have done a lot of “open planning” and ask my escort friend to be completely involved in the planning.

Ted says:

“I used to travel by myself all the time. Over the last 10 years I taken numerous trips with guys from 4 nights up to two weeks. Now I seldom go alone, although it is an expensive indulgence.”

I have found that the European and Middle Eastern boys I meet on gayromeo have a very different concept of day rates when multiple days of travel are involved. Yes, of course, I take care of all expenses, but the boys have been happy quoting about $150/day. So given that I am not paying to get them to their own country, they have language and other skills that an “import” would be unlikely to have, and their expectations are very different from what I hear from American escorts, I have been willing to violate “Teds” very sensible rules, and I have not (thank you Jesus) been disappointed yet.

Ragazz, thanks for giving the info on what the quoted charge per day is, at least in Europe/Mid East. That sounds very reasonable. What is the quote you hear from American escorts? The only reference I have is when that Florida anti-gay guy, George Rekers, was caught traveling with a rentboy awhile back. The rentboy said in an interview that he charged Reker's $100 a day. Did Rekers just get an unusually good deal?

Maybe it is my south Italian roots, but I LIKE to travel less expensively than some of the responders on this thread. I love native Turkish hotels in Turkey, a massaria in Italy, a good modest hotel known to my Roman boy in Monte Cassino with a direct early morning view of the monestary above us, a 4 bedroom apartment in Lecce. All of these ran about 70 euros per day. I am the wrong responder to speak on US based travel with US based escorts, since I have not yet done it. However, reading the overnight and weekend rates on Rentboy, I have concluded that they expect about $1,000 per day. Perhaps some of the escorts on this site can respond with their real expectations as opposed to my "assumptions."

I've taken cruises with an escort in the past and they work for me just as well. The smallest one I took was one with barely 15 passengers going in and around the Greek isles. That was actually idyllic. Make sure you get the suite which may be double the size of a regular cabin. It's worth evry penny. Think any of the BelAmi models in the island of Santorini.

Gay cruises may actually be a deterrant to your full enjoyment with the escort. Do you really need a boat full of horny gay men ogling at your prized possession for those 7 days or longer? Happy cruising!

I just realized that I messed up my currencies and should have said €150. Although with the Euro going south this may end up being more or less the same.
