Before I go to a city on a traveling tour I always look at every r.b. and m.4.r.n. current home city ad in that particular city. It had been a month since I looked at the Atlanta ads and I was SHOCKED to see the precipitious fall in the advertised rates both hourly and multiple hours. This seems to confirm recent posts and discussions. I think this is probably good as the young guys were getting few to no calls at all at the higher rates and the older guys were really slow (at least the 8 or 9 i regularly talk shop with.) 150 or 200 is a fair and equitable rate in this economy for an hour. 250-300 for two hours is agreeable isn't it? Many atl. ads have gone from 250-300 down to 120-175. It would seem that the MANHUNT gods are getting in on the action as well as the craigslisters in the personals section. It seems in this current economic climate that ALMOST everyone has a price and can be bought (rented). Alot of studs who said 3 years ago they would NEVER escort and who rudely JUDGED guys who they found out were rentboys are now rentboys themselves. They are just disguised in stealth on hook up sites. This has always happened some but now it has gone viral. It seems the RENTBOY has come out of the closet. IS MANHUNT the new RENTBOY????? Here in Los Angeles the rates seem to be bifurcating; the upscale Beverly Hills Boys servicing the entertainment industry are heading upward past $300 while everybody else is dropping 'em fast, or playing "ask me" with many downmarket specials to be had. I just got back from a wonderful dinner date and 2.5 hours of playtime with a studly CLister I recently met, total fare $250 including a generous tip on my part. As the rates go down, I can afford longer dates, so I'm quite enjoying myself.

 

So does Manhunt have an escort section now or is it just code words in the profiles? I stopped going there quite a while ago, but I can be easily persuaded back if it's getting interesting! Is it the same CL language of "gen, roses etc" or is there a new vernacular to be learned?

 

I was opining earlier that given the aging baby boomer demographic of gay men, the male escort market will see an unprecedented renaissance, and the dropping prices, the regional equivalent of outsourcing I would think, will result in an increase of both traffic and visibility, hopefully reflecting greater acceptance within the larger "mainstream" gay culture. Maybe wishful thinking, but I'll afford myself some optimism given the circumstances.

Good observation raife..I'm in L.A. also, and over dinner the other nite I was discussing with a friend our preferences. He was saying that he actually preferred masseurs because he felt that he got more value for his money, especially if he opted for the "happy ending", some of my massage sessions have gotten a bit out of hand as well and turned into full on sex. For 120- 150 and a tip I thought that a damn good deal. But I told him that I noticed many escorts dropping there rates and now I am close to the 200-250 dollar mark. Where my best value might be in more escort hires again, especially some of dancers out of the WEHO clubs will do a nice long evening(several hours) for the price of good massage. I hate to sound like a used car lot, but that is the reality. I think undoubtedly it has become a buyers market. Now you are right in one aspect our beloved Beverly Hill boys still command a substantial rate, especially if they see the address comes up on Sunset Plaza. lol but for the most part I am encouraged by the correction. Of course if the economy ever turns around, that will all probably change back again. ;-(

Quite the contrary in NYC. after viewing RB the other day, prices in the city are now around $350, and thats for unknowns as well who have jumped on the bandwagon and think they can charge "going rate" like the seasoned pros do....

Since I am one of those guys that budgets and saves up for hires, my scort activity will be alot less at the $350 rate.

I haven't been checking published rates here in the NYC market. But I did notice that the guys I hire regularly are now offering me special price deals. And I didn't even ask about a lower price. I am also getting more emails from my regulars stating that they are 'available'. That didn't happen either. To me that's an indication of slower business.

Very interesting, because the times we have offered discounts at our agency, even discounts exclusively for people who read this forum, I can't say there has ever been a big spike in business. And this includes the time period a number of years back when we offered both Olivier and Ross along with all our other guys at a rate of $225.

Stephen: I think the times now are so bad that the tactic you described would work these days. NYC does seem to be the exception. Soon what is going to happen is that they traveling/touring guys are going to come visit at $150-$200 and force the locals to compete. Such is the nature of the biz. Some of the very wealthy clients of course will still pay top dollar but we must ask ourselves this question: How did they get wealthy? Usually, by being frugal and not wasting money and by investing well. My wealthiest clients tend to be the smartest with their funds and always looking for a deal. I believe Raife and the others have CONFIRMED the premise of my thread. Since I adjusted from $200 an hour to $150 a week ago my business is again BOOMING! I am also offering 2 hours at $250 but that can be as long as 3 hours especailly if FOOD is involved! Since I left new orleans I am starving.there is no food in South Florida!!!!! Good observation on the wealthy Mikey. I was at dinner the other night with friends, these are Bentley kinda people. They refused to valet because it was too expensive and parked on the street instead, and while they picked up the tab (I'm not complaining) but they tipped 10%. The next day we were going to meet for drinks as well, but insisted it be before 8pm so they could take advantage of happy hour, and he ALWAYS negotiates the rates on his hires. While they have 10 times the money I have, I can't do that, sorry that's just me. And as an escort, do you give as good as service to the client who negotiates your rates down as to the guy like myself who doesn't question the rates? If I were and escort, I think I would be more accomodating to the client that just paid and didn't try to nickel and dime me.

New York isn't the only anomaly here. I don't see plummeting rates in Philly either. Neither did

I see them this summer in Boston. One thing that does amaze me though is when I see a respected and well reviewed working guy

holding the line on the rate at say about 200 and then a few ads further in RB seeing some newbie-ish guy that has no reputation

or reviews setting a rate of 300 or 350. Do they actually get this or is the expectation that we will haggle? Or is it no sense of how to build
