How is the Nob Hill Theatre these days?

I remember when this place used to be so hot. And same with Campus in San Francisco which has since closed down. (They used to have 20-man shows that were unbelievable - every stripper jacking/sucking each other on stage and among audience - and almost every guy in the audience hard and getting off.)

Then Nob went way down. Then someone said it got better. Is it? I am going to SF and am wondering whether it's worth checking out.

And are there any places left in the US where those hot Campus - like shows still take place? Haven't been in a long time but sorta in the mood for some adventure. :)

I remember those times also jeffla! I used to make two trips a year to SFO and had great times at Nob. I was there last March and did not stay long. Almost no one there and everyone seemed so bored. Maybe it was the night I went, but IMHO it was not worth it at all....

A few months ago on MuscleServiceStation a thread was started stating that Nob Hill Theater was under new management by owners who were intent on bringing it back to its glory days and actually hiring beefy dancers and hosting porn star headliners. At the time, I thought I'll believe it when I see it and I'm still waiting. In all that time I've heard of three instances of headliners, doing weekend stints only - probably just one or two shows a night. And as usual, word about these shows was learned only by chance at obscure places no more than a day or two before the event. Nob Hill never did seem to master or care about advance advertising or utilizing the internet in any way, shape or form. From what I've read about most all patrons' disappointment with the place, I can't believe they can still afford the rent in that neighborhood.

This place used to be so great in the 1990s - a real destination. It always amazed me how quickly it turned downhill - 60 to 0 in ten seconds. I always associate its total demise co-inciding with 9/11. And it astounds me that it is virtually the only male strip club (such as it is) west of the Mississippi. I can't believe with all the porn stars living in CA that one has to go to New Orleans or Atlanta or Florida and New York to see any quality flesh.

The problem with the Nob Hill is they do not pay the dancers... anything. They work for tips only. I'm sure the headliners get paid something, but not the rank-and-file. That has more to do with the demise of the place than anything because it prevents them from attracting and retaining a decent group of house dancers.

Isn't that standard for the industry? I know that the house doesn't pay dancers at Touch Providence or the Unicorn Club, not sure but I think it's the same at Swinging Richards. Dancers take home only their tips and money from backroom or private dances. Go-go dancers at bars normally do get paid by the house because they're expected to dance (not lapdance). Touch, Unicorn, and SR all have full bar whereas the Nob Hill Theatre doesn't serve alcohol. Maybe a top-flight management and marketing team can figure out a way to turn a profit from a nonalcoholic strip club, but it's a steep hill to climb.

Thanks, I'll admit I'm ignorant about how the strip clubs work, didn't know that was the common practice. But I think you're onto something with the alcohol, that seems like a place they could make better money and draw in more of a crowd.

I don't know where Touch, Unicorn, and SR are, but I would be surprised if any of them are in california....

The California ABC (Acholic Beverages Commission) has strict rules about no nudity in places where alchohol is served, and if a patron is discovered showing any dick at all, the license of the establishment can (and has been several times in SF) suspended...

There's a certain bar on Folsom street where there's a narrow passage way between it and the next building so, technically, its outside and any hanky-panky there does not put the bar at risk.

The way that BSR phrased his comment makes me think he's likely aware of this ...
