Today, I found an orange. And having been someone who was seriously broke for a long time, I was quite, quite pleased.

And then later at work, there was leftover chicken in the lunchroom: a bonus for my lunch! That was cool, too.

So altogether it felt like a good day for me. (It didn't take much, I'll admit, but I had to live without any extras for an awful long time.)

What does it take for you to have a good day?

You know FOS I appreciate that its often the little things. Most times its just a good conversation with a friend. often just having my dog lay on my lap as I relax at night. It doesnt take much... but I find it takes even less when I start in a bad mood. sometimes its just that little thing that turns the whole thing around... or destroys it.

Great question FOS. I've spent years working to find meaning and happiness in things that were meaningless. For the last year I have been focusing on leading a simpler and more reflective life to find happiness...with mixed results so far. It is not easy to change years of conditioning and the need to get approval from others. As cliche as it may sound, living in the moment and finding meaning in simple things is ultimately what I find makes me happy and to have a good day. I find that I have a great day when I live up to my aspirations of giving just a little bit more and taking a little bit less in everything I do.

It is a great question FOS. I'm with TC, it tends to be the simple things. First for someone of my age, a good day is one where I make it to the end of the day. :) But also seeing a smile or hearing the laughter of a friend or a child and knowing that I put it there. Knowing that I made someone else's day just a little better or easier. Knowing that I did a good job at work that day. Knowing that I busted my ass at the gym and gave everything I had to my workout. Knowing and reveling in the fact that I do have people who love and care for me, regardless of screw-ups I make. That I have heros in my life -- those that put up with me. Small, tender, gentle, seemingly insignificant things in the grand scheme of things -- that's what makes a good day for me.

About a month or so ago while I was walking to work, a woman saw me and out of the blue said to me"you look like a really cheerful person". I swear I must have had the biggest smile on my face the rest of the way! Something as small as a basic compliment made it a good day.

friendofshelia, what an insightful question. It makes me a good day when good and nice people succeed and bad and lying people learn their lessons and correct their wrong ways. Recently a friend of mine who worked so hard is moving onto a better position in NJ. He is a nice person and treats people so well. Never lies for a little bit of money and truly cares for his friends. It was good to see him succeed and do well. We need more people like him. When I see that I have hope in the world and those who manipulate others for a little bit of money and pleasure will perish in the end. That is a good day for me.

Thanks for the nice replies, guys.

I've also found that I'm pleased with my day if I've set a small goal and met it, even if it is less than what I would normally push myself towards.

It means that I'm taking care of myself by removing stress, and that I managed to stick to my plan.

friendof sheila---your question combined with the personal revelations made it a good day for me. Why? You brought to me a renewed appreciation for my life and for what I have achieved, been given, been lucky enough to find. Thank you. Your outlook and approach give me hope for the future :))))))

Anything that occurs that has me singing along with the music in my car. Sometimes it is as simple as The River by Bruce Springsteen coming on, that one always gets my toes tapping, my voice in full force and my car going a bit faster than it should.

I love

PK you remind me of this scene in Jerry Maguire

Now I bet our PK is as hot as Tom Cruise. Hugs~~~

Really good days are rarely planned but they can be. I usually don't recognise one while its happening. It's later on, when reflecting on the day's events, that I sometimes say, "today was a really great day". And I agree with everyone else, it usually has to do with little things.

Sometimes Happiness is as Simple as . . .

Sometimes happiness is as simple as sitting on the Couch in front of the fireplace or curling up under a warm

blanket on clean sheets on a cold winters night or getting a call from a friend who you had been thinking about

just that day. Simple joys are sometimes the best.

I'll go to bed tonight thinking it was a good day, since I'm in my apartment and it's raining outside.

Even though it gets cold in here at night and the kitchen sure isn't clean, I'm grateful I have a dry place to sleep, and flannel sheets.

A Good Day to say the least!

I was taking my daily four mile hike in the 1023 acre state park near my home with my dog Miah, When my watch beeped as it does every hour. One of my spiritual mentors has me stop and pray on the hour whenever possible. I stopped in the trail looked up and thanked God for my life and prayed that he would continue working with me as he has so lovingly done to this point. I asked that my eyes ears and heart be open and receptive to His gentle guidance. as I was closing my prayer the particular set of tree tops I had my eyes fixed, on which the white sunlight was cast, the light turned to a golden hue. I was in such awe that my eyes began to water. The feeling I got inside was so big that I thought to myself, boy, if he ever did outright speak to me I would fall out in the trail, it would be too much! As I came around the next switch back in the trail there was a wooden bench just off the trail with just a few beams of light shining on it through the dense forest. I stopped to lye down on it and reflect for a few moments. I could hear the rustle of a family coming down the trail. They finally approached it was two grandparents, a little girl and a little boy. My little dog Miah, being a Jack russel, Shitzu, Dotson mix is VERY energetic and excitable, began to jump around and plead for their attention. The grandparents and the little girl did not hesitate to oblige her. However, the little five year old boy named Ethan was completely unaffected by the commotion, his little brown eyes remained fixed on the trail ahead, eyes wide open jaw dropped, as if he was in awe, as I was a few moments before. I pointed out to the grandparents the unusual lack of reaction to the dog and his apparent awe struck expression. At that point he turned his head ever so slowly looked me right in the eye and said with the most sincere inflection as if he really wanted me to know, I LOVE YOU! Needless to say it was not too much to bare, I responded I LOVE YOU TOO LITTLE BUDDY! That my friends made my day! I will name my first little boy Ethan.....

Over the years, I have come to realize that a good day is what YOU make of it, even with the problems that occur for all of us. I try to wake up every morning and say "morning is good" instead of "good morning" This positive outlook sets the theme for whatever comes up during the day.

A relaxing drive or walk in the countryside with my beloved dog, relaxing listening to good music, and thoughts or communication with close friends and family fuel this positive beginning.

Most importantly, is realizing the things we are fortunate enough to have when there are so many less fortunate than us. A few months ago, I was complaining about the after effects of hand surgery. At the close of a support group I attend, we all form a circle and join hands. The man next to mr had no hands--I left the meeting in tears and vowed to always appreciate what I have.

Thanks,

Bill

I'll only lie for a great deal of money! :D Jest kiddin'

I agree that it's the little things that make a day great. It makes my day when I can give someone a kind word that elicits a smile. It also makes my day when I get a note or email from a friend who is thinking of me.

Wow, I didn't know they still made Dotson (or is it "Datsun"?). I thought they changed it to Nissan many years ago. :p

Yup, they still make 'em. The company is now a subsidiary of Oscar Mayer.
