Who all is stuck in the snow? How much did you get??

We had about six inches in metro Kansas City. The streets have been plowed and getting around is OK (and fortunately they cleared the walks in my apartment complex - twice!). It's sunny but bitterly cold after the snow, so it won't be melting for a while! Sounds like it'll be cold into next week, at least! This storm moved East, so you probably got it in Indianapolis and then it went on towards the East Coast, where it joined up with the southern storm that turned into a nor'easter.

In my part of NC (Raleigh/Durham), we only go a trace of snow before it turned to sleet & freezing rain, but fortunately we didn't get enough to bring down trees or power lines. Still, the neighborhood roads were icy and re-froze overnight Monday & Tuesday. Today was the first day I ventured out.

Southern parts of NC got more.

We tend to have more trouble with ice storms than snow storms.

All I can say is that somehow, don't ask me how, but Richmond managed to miss it. We barely managed to work our way up to a dusting. Of course my fellow Southerners freaked completely and it will be days before there is bread or milk on the shelves but it is sunny, in the 40's, streets are dry and we won't kvetch at all. Sorry Joseph.

Well, from 9pm Tuesday until 2pm on Wednesday we got between 24 and 30 inches here in Ct. Had to do a little digging, but things were moving by Wednesday evening. More on the way this weekend I believe.

I grew up in Michigan and after my first duty station, in Hawaii (2001-2005), I feel I've never acclimated to a colder climate since. The Ice fell last week and the stairs to my apt are still frozen. I feel that being that I grew up in Michigan, I should be able to handle this, but I have about 0 tolerance for the cold, ice, and snow. NC doesnt typically support/hold ice or snow, but apparently that is all changing.

It might be a nice time to come for a weekend in Palm Springs. Sunny and 78 today. The moon and stars were stunning when I was sitting by the pool last night.

I just drove yesterday from Raleigh, where we got just a layer of ice over the roads, to Charlotte....only about 2.5 hours away....and its a completely different world down here. There's still ice over much of the roads and any grass is covered with a few inches of snow and a thick layer of ice on top. Funny how a short distance can make such a big difference.

Over the holidays, I visited relatives in Ottawa, Canada (their Capital) and usually it is figid cold with tons of snow. They only had a dusting and told me since that they have dodged every single big storm. My sister from Atlanta was also there at the same time as me and on that day they had snow in Atlanta (in contrast to the mild weather in Ottawa) What is happening to our weather systems?
