I am really torn between these two. Tell me who root for...

Novak Djokovic. Both Federer and Djokovic showed a lot of heart in taking the match to a five sets yesterday, both players had a number of match points in the fifth set. Either man might have won, but Djokovic pulled it off (so to speak).

It was one of the best mens semi-final matches ever played at Flushing Meadow, Queens.

On another level with Federer reaching his 30th birthday next year, the men badly need players who can challenge Rafa Nadal on a regular basis. Andy Roddick has failed time and again (despite one Grand Slam and, at times, brillant play at Wimbledon). For the immediate future, only last year's U.S. Open winner, Juan Martin del Potro (ARG) and Novak Djokovic (SEB), who won the Australian Open in 2008, might be in Nadal's league. Andy Murray also has a chance.

The only man with more than one Grand Slam who is still playing, other the Federer and Nadal, is Lleyton Hewitt (AUS). Hewitt won his two Grand Slams way back in 2001 and 2002. How pathetic is that! Not for Hewitt, but for mens' tennis.

To refresh everyone's memories, the four yearly Grand Slams are: Australian Open; French Open; Wimbledon; U.S. Open.

I too am torn between these two---and I was conflicted when Roger F. played Novak D. I love Federer's demeanor and skill but Djokovic's passion and Serbian temperament drew me to him. Their semi-final match was one of the best I have ever seen and I think the better player won

Today Nadal vs. Djokovic: Hopefully both will play up to their potential. Nadal at times drives me crazy with his quasi (?) obsessive behaviour----pushing back his hair on both sides, tugging at his pants/ underwear, swiping his fingers under his nose, bouncing the ball a certain number of times and other stuff he does before he serves. I worry about Djokovic being able to control his focus. As a tennis player and an admirer of sheer athletic prowess, they are both magnificent. I guess in the end, I'll be hoping that Nadal wins---in a 5 set match. The US Open is the only Grand Slam Tournaments that he has not won and it would be a fitting end to this years tennis season.

I am torn between my admiration for Rafa's biceps, intensity and sportsmanship (he never disses his opponents, and often comforts them like a lover after he beats them), and Nole's abs, intensity, and sense of humor (he has the sensibility of a smart gay man, even if he is straight). Rafa's run to the final has been easy and almost boring, while Nole has fought his way there--yesterday's match with Roger was the most exciting of the tournament. Whichever one wins deserves the trophy.

I am swayed by another Jocko pic. Here is a man with humor, and is comfortable with his sexuality...

I'm in camp Rafa.

His other obvious attributes aside, he has a magnificent ass. He knows he has a magnificent ass, and based on remarks he's made to the press he knows we're looking at his magnificent ass.

Being the fan that I am, hence my namesake, I would equally let either of these good fellas handle my racket as they certainly know how to play with any balls put into their hands. Great bodies, great talent, and great sportsmen. To truly make a decision, I would like to see firsthead how well they grip!

Rafa!!!!

And not for just his ass, either...

And nothing against, Novak, either. He's gifted and could very well win.. especially now with another day to recuperate..... I just want to see Nadal make tennis history with a career slam at 24. And the man he had to beat in the 3 other slams was Roger Federer.... that's special... especially, since Fed has never beaten Nadal to win a slam..

While certainly not the match of the tournament, like yesterday, I thought that Nadal and Lopez was a good match and I also thought that Nadal played incredible tennis against Yousny... I guess, if Nadal had fallen apart in the 2nd and 4th sets like Fed did, Yousny could have pushed it to 5.. Yesterday's match was great tennis, but it doesn't compare with Nadal/Federer at Wimbledon...

It does drive me crazy how he routinely, obsessively touches his ass before he serves.... or maybe, that's why I really like him? Hmmmmm.

Um, Roger beat Rafa twice in finals at Wimbledon, before Rafa finally beat him there in 2008.

My humble apologies, Rick.

I was wrong about Federer never beating Nadal in a slam... think that I got confused because all of Fed's slam victories since he lost to Nadal at Wimbledon have been to other guys... and that Fed never beat Nadal to complete his career slam at the French.

No matter. I stand corrected.

Watched a really bad movie the other day and actually thought of you.... and the time that you and Derek and I spent watching "I"ll Cry Tomorrow".... it was Kim Novak in "Jeanne Eagels"...... awful... but I couldn't look away... the best awful?? Oh, I already used that title.

Sorry.... for that and for that other thing. NEVER said that I didn't have a great time. NO regrets.

None.

Okie

Viva España! Rafael Nadal wins the U. S. Open! Yay!

About Djockovic's sense of humour: he was being interviewed after one match and the rerporter asked him why he did not hit a tough return between his legs---a la Roger Federer: his response was something along the lines of " I know what's between my legs and I didn't want to risk it." All with a very, very knowing smile on his face. After that I kept looking for "evidence" but alas, found none. My opinion of his personality went way up however. Same can be said of an interview with Nadal after he qualified for the Final at the US Open---he asked the reporter if he could say something and gave a great comment about 9/11 and the respect and admiration he has for New Yorkers, and Americans---said with sincerity and feeling.

Both of these guys are what tennis should be about. Not to diminish Federer---all three of them are amazing and these times will be writeen large in the annals of tennis.
