Today marks the 143rd birthday of a truly great nation.

Here in Toronto it's a beautiful day....perfect for a summer BBQ, and a lazy cocktail or three in the sun.

For my fellow Canadians here on the board, a "hip-hip-hooray" to living in such a wonderful place.

It doesn't get any better than this.;)

Happy Canada Day to You..

I marvel that Canada decided to name this day after the country, when the US went with a so much more clever holiday name..."The Fourth of July". It's originality astounds me.

That said. Happy Holiday to both US and Canadian forum members and guests.

That's relatively recent...1982 I think.

Prior to that, it was named "Dominion Day"...another demonstration of political inventiveness.;)

Doit, of course you recognize Independence Day, like the Will Smith movie, as one of the three US holidays celebrated on the same calendar date each year, along with Christmas and New Year's Day.

Happy Canada Day indeed!

Even in the wake of the terribly un-canadian events having taken place in Toronto, our country is a wonderful one.

May we be able to sustain and uphold the ideas that make this such a beautiful country.

Hugs and good wishes to all!

Happy Canada Day!

I love Canada. I've run races there several times. I'll be racing there again this October, at the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon: http://www.torontomarathon.com/... Come join me!

Just thought all our Northern neighbors would like to know there's a "Canada Day Run" scheduled here in a Washington, D.C. neighborhood park tonight. So, three cheers for Canada!

Even the Queen dropped by to give you a hug and pinch your cheek.

"I have watched with enormous admiration how Canada has grown and matured while remaining true to its history, its distinctive character and its values,” she said. “This nation has dedicated itself to being a caring home for its own, a sanctuary for others and an example to the world.”

Happy Birthday Canada!!

Well, I tried to celebrate Canada Day: waited over an hour for scheduled fireworks at City Hall which never materialized. Perhaps they thought Toronto had had enough excitement lately with the riots and the earthquake.

In any case, I remain thankful every day of my life for being Canadian. :)

With glowing hearts, we see thee rise...

Looks like a party looking for a crowd to me.

The older I get the more I appreciate all that my country has given to me. The thought was only slightly tempered yesterday when new sales taxes kicked in that put up the price of gasoline 10 cents a liter amongst a host of tax hikes that will affect a lot of things previously exempt or taxed at a lower rate. Oh well, the cost of freedom!

ehhh,

Happy Canada Day to all Canadians (even Celine). Is it just me or does it seem like most Canadian men are super HOT! (Juan Vancouver, Rick Hammersmith, Mark Gordon, et. al.). I feel as though I should move there to research this subject thoroughly... soon.

The Queen said it perfectly and as a great grandson of a Canadian "lady" who was persuaded to go south, I cherish my Canadian heritage, my Canadian relatives, and the wonderful times when I visit London and Toronto and Windsor in Ontario and Montreal for totally different reasons.

Happy Canada Day to all!!

Recently spent 3 days in Toronto and i think further study is definitely needed. Lots of hot guys most of them seemingly unaware of how hot they are. This is opposed to NY, where there are more hot guys but the vast majority are well aware of how hot they are and there area lots of guys who are not hot who believe they are. So at least on this point, I vote for Toronto.

By the way Canada, you don't look a day over 127.

Perma-frost will do that to you!

And I have to say, at 84 she's looking great and still draws a crowd. Here she is on a walk-about in Ottawa wearing an outfit that matches the colour of the Canadian flag...and a smart little diamond brooch.

She's attending church here in TO tomorrow morning, and then she's being whisked off to the horse races! This year marks the 151st Anniversary of The Queen's Plate - the first jewel in Canada’s Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing and the longest continuously run stakes race in North America.

Long live the Queen!;)

I have been out of touch with the media the last few days so I don't know know who won the Queen's Plate. Anyone know? That race was run in my small town here in Eastern Ontario in 1874, for the only time I believe out of Toronto.

I understand the Queen is to visit New York tomorrow. Her first visit there since 1976. I was there also that summer, although probably not at the same time. All I remember is the intense heat (it was July) and the wonderful parties on the UES. A lifetime ago, it seems. Maybe Betty Windsor feels the same way!!

Big Red Mike was the winner, Luv2Play.

And the jockey was SO excited to meet the Queen.

Was fun to see.
