Howdy-

Without saying much about this MOST unpleasant hotel and with all due respect to any fans of this hotel, I sincerely and with complete honestly WOULD NOT recommend The Roosevelt Hotel, NY to my worst enemy - no way.

I'll briefly describe both rooms I was assigned after the 1st room was determined to not be workable. Smoke detector hanging from the ceiling by live wires, the wall paper in the guest room was bubbling and peeling off the wall. The carpet was torn and also bubbling up along with peeling paint hanging from the ceiling. Substantial hole in the wall due to people ramming the chair into a specific corner and the bathroom would barely fit a child in my opinion. I won't go into the supposed closet space or whatever they called this setup.

After checking out in less than one hour after initially checking in I was told an immediate refund would be applied to the card used to book the room. While that did happen, it was 6 days later and until just two days ago (this trip was the 23rd of February to the 2nd of March) credit holds for various amounts due to a "system glitch" were just released even though I was only in the hotel rooms for under an hour in total.

Listed as a 4-star hotel - COMPLETELY FALSE!

Save yourself the headache by not booking here.

I found this to be a very interesting review on the same dates that I was in NY and would have stayed there.

My wife & I spent the night of February 27/28 at the Roosevelt hotel. Despite the frigid exterior temperature and even though the radiator in our room was off, it was stiflingly hot inside. When I tried to open one of the two windows it wouldn't budge and I strained my back in the process. A staff member finally managed to pry it up about six inches.

We went out for dinner and when we returned late in the evening it was still so hot we couldn’t sleep. In desperation we turned on the air conditioner in the other window, the noise from which kept us awake for the remainder of the night. Next morning, when we took our showers, the water temperature abruptly fluctuated from scalding hot to ice cold without our ever adjusting the faucet.

As I was reporting these conditions to the house-manager (whose only comment was, "I'm sorry, sir, what else can I say?") my wife overheard a lady standing nearby lodge an identical complaint with one of the receptionists. I turned and asked her what floor her room was on. The sixteenth, she replied, the floor below ours. So evidently ours was not an isolated case.

Initial impressions can be deceptive. The Roosevelt’s magnificent lobby led us to expect so much more. What a disappointment!

There are sufficient bad reviews on this property out there, but I'm sorry you had to add to them. Never good when you have that kind of experience at a place you're staying.

Next time try Schraeger's Grammercy Hotel. Great suites. Beautiful hotel.

Another bad review

Romann,

Stayed at the Roosevelt a few months back and it was just as bad.

Never thought of reviewing the hotel here... maybe we should begin such a thread since many clients and escorts do travel to major cities here.

On the Roosevelt, a friend stayed here a few years back and had a beautiful corner suite that I thought was terrific (forgot she was heading a group and so was probably comped on this trip and upgraded as she had 16 clients from her firm here).

I checked in back in September and found the room cramped, had problems with the room keys (had to twice go down to activtae one or the ohter of them), the interminable wait for the elevators, and in general the room was just not worth what I was paying. I too had problems with the room temperature, and the smallness of the bathoom.

We were only staying overnight, so closet was not an issue, but the cramped quarters made getting around the bed a constant problem. And I HATE hotel rooms that always have one chair and one desk chair -- why not two chairs at least -- ph, we cannot hav e two chairs as the room would then be even more cramped!!!!

I have to agree having stayed at the roosevelt myself, beautiful lobby. dated everything else. It was definately 4 stars in the 50's too bad they haven't updated since.

So did you enjoy something more..... Gothic?

The Night Hotel is actually very nice, very sexy and very reasonably priced! Totally recommend it if you want to be in midtown / Times Square.

This was the hotel that I booked at after getting the hell out of Dodge (The Roosevelt Hotel) which was just a few blocks down the street. I was HIGHLY impressed with the hotel very much and enjoyed my stay. Two thumbs up for this hotel!

Turn around and walk the other way...

Stayed at the Roosevelt a few months back and it was just as bad.

The guest floors were horrific and I don't like to say that often. When I entered the lobby I was highly impressed with how everything was laid out and it was quite beautiful. Lots of rich history but then I entered the first room and I didn't even put my bags down. I marched right back down to the lobby and was assigned a new room. The manager actually told me that maybe I'm "expecting" too much which quickly got a dirty look from me. The only difference was the fire detector wasn't hanging by wires from the ceiling in room #2.

I know hotels quite well since I'm in them 10-15 days a month and I try to stay at different hotels though that's not always possible. I'm quite familiar with the star rating system and in no way is the Roosevelt currently close to a 4 star hotel. It's location is great which is baffled me because it has the potential to be something very grand. I wouldn't even give it 2.5 stars and that is stretching it.

Though, there are reviews from others that highly praise the hotel so maybe it was just my experience but since I had two rooms, I'm thinking it was the hotel.

I'm a great fan of the Beacon Hotel on Broadway between 74th and 75th on the Upper West Side. The rooms are large and have fully equiped kitchnettes. Directly across the street is a Fairway Market which makes it east to stock up on any needed supplied. I particularly like the rooms overlooking Broadway. It is always best to call the hotel directly to check on any special rates they might be offering. Their web site is http://www.beaconhotel.com.
