Forgot to mention... It's great to see that Swish (who I always thought was from some outer galaxy) back on planet earth!

Also, Andy Pettitte was lookin' good in more ways than one... great to know that he can swing a bat.

So, does CC Sabathia go in tonight with a strong competitive edge? Can the Phillies beat him twice in a row? I doubt it. If the Yanks win tonight then I doubt the Phillies will make it a seven game series.

Many "experts" aka sports commentators have been saying from the beginning, NYY in 6. It has to go 5. After last night, it does appear that 5 or 6 is the right number. But, they do play the games, just to make it official if for no other reason. :)

WG- The video review is so they can get it right but even after the bounce off the TV camera, there were comments about the review not being definitive. Equally amazing is how often the umpires get it right and how often they get it wrong.

Best regards,

KMEM

Shades of Jeffrey

K- Actually given the slam-bam nature of the action it is surprising how often the upms get it right!

As for Arod's home run, fortunately there was the video review. If there were video review back in the 1996 ALCS I seriously doubt that the "Jeffrey Maher" home run against Baltimore would have held up!

Come to think of it, perhaps Jeffrey was the camera operator last night!

The Yankees said two days ago they were going with Sabathia on short rest tonight.

That's not the advantage you might otherwise think. The Phillies beat Sabathia the last two times he started against them. ;)

What, no mid-game commentary on game 4? Not even about not touching home plate? The computer gave the game 3 to 2 to the Phillies so let's hope for the best.

Seventh inning- A very tired CC Sabathia goes up against the top batters in the Phillie lineup...will he get the job done?

I guess he did...the Yankees are still ahead. But CC's gone...

8th Inning- The Phillies have six outs left v. the Yankees' 3...edge to PHI

Ninth- TIED! Does it get any better than this?

Relax- how do you solve a problem called Mariano?

You know what's coming, but you know what's coming in horror movies too. It still gets you.

It occurs to me that I'm enjoying this World Series all the more for both teams being old time single city franchises. Somehow for me expansion teams like the Angels and the Rays don't occupy the same mythic space in my mind that the Cubbies or the Red Sox do. Even transplants such as the Dodgers aren't quite the same as a team like the Cards which has been in St. Louis for generations. I realize how irrational that attitude is but I still have difficulty taking new teams seriously.

Tradition

...I realize how irrational that attitude is but I still have difficulty taking new teams seriously.

Ms... I know exactly how you feel and a significant part of me feels the same way. There is something about tradition in baseball that transcends the so-called traditions of all other sports... and if there is ever a team that personifies tradition it is the Yankees.

Now the question is... where should the Yanks win it all? A part of me wants them to return to the new stadium and christen it appropriately. However, when the original Yankee Stadium first opened in 1923 and the Bombers won their first World Series they didn't achieve that goal in their new edifice, but rather a short distance across town at the Polo Grounds...

So with that bit of history in mind I say go for it all tonight guys and let the chips fall where they may!!

Still, the Yanks took 6 games to do it in 1923... So if it takes 6 games in 2009 I’ll take that as following tradition as well...

And if it goes to a game 7 my nerves might not survive...

I'm getting ready for the inevitable, but my heart aches for the Phillies. I'd gladly take Cole Hamels on my lap and say, "There, there...," except that I'd probably be crushed by his weight.

Well, it doesn't look good for the Phillies, but Cliff Lee may turn in another stellar performance tonight, pushing the series back to New York. I can't say that I don't like that as it might be nice to win in front of the hometown fans.

But I hope we see a good game tonight with the Phillies fighting hard to stay in the series.

"Yankees Suck"

Shame on those Philly fans for chanting, "Yankees suck, Yankees suck..." Such poor sportsmanship. You'd never hear New York fans behaving in such a foul manner.

Yankees Sucking Each Other

Now Cooper, surely you wouldn't mind if those Yankee players were sucking each other off in the locker room. I'd like to be a fly on the wall if they were!
