If you look in the Asia/ Ausralia Escort section right here you'll find a ton of links an information. Much of it priceless...

I got the travel bug in my 40s and went to Australia three times. By the third visit, Sydney had become like a home town. Go because Melbourne and Sydney are two of the most gay-friendly cities in the world, but the country has much more to offer than just a great gay life-style. Buy a ticket and e-mail me about any Sydney information.

The bottom line is: you picked one of the most friendly, enjoyable countries in the world.

I've read a couple of books recently about Australia and its piqued my interest SOOO much.

I wanna do all the cities Sydney,Melbourne,Perth,Darwin,Cairns etc and do the outback and Uluru but i wanna do it properly take my time which will take time i know what great gay friendly places the big cities are and i wanna see the nightlife ,if i go i might try and combine Mardi Gras as well.

But to me it seems like just a great place to BE the vastness, the 6th largest country on earth but a population of just 19 million, jeez thats only a couple of million moore than NYC.I gotta go......

I was there recently, and found it to be still a bit quite 'red-neckie'. Beer swilling & homophobe to homohate, forget what you saw on Pricilla Queen of the Desert! Darwin and Perth are beautiful with limited gay activity (forget escorts), Alice Springs dry. CAirns, Sydney and Melbourne have life, Sydney having only two massage parlours. Do not forget about the capital city Canberra, think it has a escort agency there.

Please report back!!!

This is not about Australia but Puerto Rico and probably too late since you've made plans but...try Vieques. In February I rented a house for the two of us. Could have slept 6 for $50 a night on a hillside overlooking the bioluminescent bay. Vieques has the most beautuful, empty, unspoiled beaches. There was no bombing going on at the time. It may have resumed, but all was quiet while we where there. There's a wonderful gay owned hotel caled Casa Cielo with breath-taking views. If you're looking for night life, forget it. If you're looking for a tropical island paradise not over-run with cruise ships, go. It's an easy 30 minute flight from the main island. You need a 4 wheel drive jeep to get to the beaches, but when you get there, it's all yours. Perfect if you like to "play" in the sand.

The topic for this thread was indeed misleading. I didn't know what to expect. ...thought I'd reach a thread of doom and gloom, but apparently not...

For two years some two decades ago, I lived in Australia-- Melbourne to be precise. As a person of color-- I did not experience any overt racism or any other form of injustice. I am NOT saying that it does not exist, for during those days there were biases hurled toward the Greeks and the Italians and the new immigrants-- Asians. Apparently, there has been great improvement in the assimilation of the former but not the latter as much. There is work to be done in this human area.

The country is GREAT! The people are WONDERFUL! As mentioned earlier-- there is a spirit of acceptance and/or tolerance for gays. What other country in the world broadcasts its gay pride events, namely the parade, on national television? Its armed forces is DEFINITELY not what we have HERE in the good ole US of A!!

By all means, go and have a blast (in more than one way)! Experience the culture and its people. I plan to return one of these days, for if I had not become homesick, I'd probably would have stayed in the "land down under." It is the place where I came to grips with my sexuality after I had attended a national conference on homosexuality held in Sydney. It's where I came OUT! As Diana sings-- "I'm coming out! I want the world to know!" Well, I did both--the latter discreetly...!

Well, I knew; then my mother and sister soon found out via letters.

Sorry for the digression.

I made two vacation trips of three weeks each to Australia, and never touched on the gay life there at all (OK, I did wander down Oxford Street one evening). It's one of the most beautiful countries I've ever seen, and I liked the people even if they were straight. Don't just confine yourself to the Sydney ghetto. Definitely go north to the tropics, and see the outback (but bring plenty of insect repellant). If you can afford it, do the three day train ride across the entire continent from Sydney to Perth (much better than the other tourist train trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs).
